Introducing Discord Talks Session #1: Lightning Network and Atomic Swaps with MLPFrank from the Litecoin Foundation

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 01:53 PM PST

I'm super excited to introduce the first, of what hopefully may be many, Discord Talks!

It will be featuring our very own u/mlpfrank, the Director of the Litecoin Foundation. He will also be releasing another video about Litecoin and the LN on Wednesday as well.

    Time

    This Wednesday 11/22/17 5pm Eastern.

Topic: Lightning Network and Atomic Swaps

Watch this great video on the LN by the Litecoin Foundation and MLPFrank: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpfvhiqFw7A

You can also read Part 1,2,3 of this series.

    Discord Talk Preparation

    1. Post below any questions you might have about the LN, AS, and how it affects LTC.
    2. Log into Discord and configure your voice chat to "Push to Talk". User Settings->Voice&Video->Push to Talk-> Choose your shortcut button you'll need to push that'll enable you to talk.
    3. You'll need headphones/mic. Nothing fancy, I personally use apple headphones and they work great.

    Discord Talk Format

    1. 1 Hour format
    2. First part, mlpfrank will answer any questions on this thread related to the LN.
    3. Second part, the community can talk to each other about the LN.
    4. If you'd like to ask a question or make a comment, hold down your "Push to Talk" button but don't say anything. I will see that you want to speak and will call you out by name to speak.
    5. I'll be moderating to make sure everyone gets a chance to speak. If you speak out of turn, I'll mute you.

If you have a better idea on how to format this, let me know.

    "Bought my first LTC posts"

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 01:03 AM PST

I'm seeing a lot of these posts. They are repetitive, but I'm so happy to see people buying their first bits of litecoin. Don't be discouraged by occasional sales and keep hodling. Remember, only invest what you can afford to lose :)

I'm a college student and just put 10k of what I made from my internship into crypto. Tbh I'm a lazy ass bum and I don't want to work. Just thought it would be nice to hear some success stories so I know what I'm HODLING for

Thoughts on giving Litecoin to friends as Christmas Gifts?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 05:45 AM PST

I'm an app dev and so is my dad. My other friends are either engineers, or very technically savvy.

They're all starting to get interested in crypto from me. My thought was to give them small amounts from some litecoin I bought a week or 2 ago. But giving the equivalent of a gift price at that time. (Bought it at $58 so give them X amount @$58, so Christmas rolls around it's worth much more).

Notice, they're are all interested or at least I think would be willing to accept. I'm not springing crypto on say a schoolteacher that won't want it.

**Also funny side note, my father wants to get up to a certain amount of BTC&ETH but obviously has to try to explain it to my mom before buying more of course. He asked for my help with this haha. Definitely could use advice on that conversation. *My dad is a developer... knows all about blockchain, has his own wallet, and knows the volatility and risks (so please don't lecture about old people and risk) He does however, like ETH most... damn

Litecoin adoption with local stores and ma and pa idea

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 08:37 AM PST

This thought popped into my head. And if its been discussed or being worked on, great. But i felt it should be read.

Merchants who are doing large number of sales a day are losing 30+ cents per credit transaction. Thats a lot of money being thrown away.

Due to this we see prices rising. Its also why a customer may see the illegal tactics where a fee is added for CC purchases.

As a whole, or as a minority. We need people who can talk and sell going to these local merchants and showing them how much money can be saved using LTC and cypto in general, for transmitting sales.

Maybe if we can get revolut or another service that makes creating and accessing funds, simple. Merchants would be willing to try it out and with a good chance of doubling or more that sale into ROI...

So much could come from this. Like lower prices for the customer. Think club card or a promo each user who signs up for ______ gets a small perk like (US) $5 on signup to try the service out.

This could be limited to a small sample size. Dont see how this can fail, if done right.

    Tax Question

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 08:29 AM PST

I'm not sure if this is the right arena, but I figure someone could at least point me in the right direction, if not answer the question.

I initially bought Ethereum, made money, and then traded it for Litecoin on an exchange. Do I have to figure out anything for taxes, or do you only pay on any gains when you turn back to cash?

Sold BTC, and bought 10 Litecoin, going to hold at least 12 months.

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 09:45 AM PST

I have realized that even the most positive assumptions for 2018 don't give bitcoin more than a 300% price increase. While Litcoin is expected do grow much more on a percentage basis.

Unable to import core wallet backup

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 08:07 AM PST

I mined a couple coins a while ago, but I ended up doing a clean install of my OS, Windows, and have had trouble importing.

It should be as simple as replacing the new default wallet.dat with the old one, but that gives me a "Runaway Exception" and a message that says something like "Litecoin core cannot continue safely and will close".

I've waited until it was completely sync'd up, and I've run as an administrator. Is there something more that can be done? I've also tried starting core from my cmd window with the -rescan command; from instructions on this thread.

I am able to start it up again if I just replace my backup wallet.dat with the one the program was installed.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 06:40 PM PST

I just noticed something. If litecoin pulls the same percentage next year as it has this year, it will be valued at $1,200.
