sold all my ETH for health insurance. i’m bummed, but i don’t regret it.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:48 AM PST

background: i've had a mystery illness that's stopped me being able to work/get out of bed for a few years now, and recently i finally got a diagnosis, but unfortunately it's one that basically means i'll need complex healthcare for the rest of my life, with no knowing what part of my body is gonna try to nope out next. my country has mostly free public healthcare but hospital procedures often have insanely long wait times and unfortunately there's often a lower quality of care, plus some things still cost a fortune cos they're not covered. so it makes financial sense (and wellbeing sense too) to pay $2K a year for private health insurance when i realistically might need a $10K surgery on short notice or whatever.

finding a spare $2K a year in my budget is almost impossible, so, i cashed out all my ETH. it was only about 0.35ETH, but that took about a year to accumulate in small purchases (eg $10 a week). i thought i was going to hold for years and one day change my life, so it's really tough seeing the price hold up so well since i sold last week, knowing how long it will take to accumulate much again on the same budget but at the current prices.

why am i sharing this? because it was worth it. i don't regret it for a second. feeling bummed about lost ETH doesn't even almost outweigh the pure relief of knowing my first year is now paid in full and i can see out the 12 month waiting period for pre-existing conditions without having to start all over again if i have to tighten my budget further at some point.

this sub talks a lot about hodling and diamond hands no matter what, and taking profits can seem almost taboo. but for anyone in a similar situation, i want you to know that selling in the short term can change your life just as much as that longterm profit might. maybe even more – for all i know, depending on what the next 12 months have in store, crypto might have just saved my life. and there's no shame in selling if you need to, cos it might save your life too.

tldr: you can't buy a lambo if you're dead.

Hey long-term holders, how long are you actually planning to hold for?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:13 AM PST

I know many of you are in for a quick profits but many among us are here for long term gains. I was wondering how long are you planning to hold for.

A lot of coins have lately really blasted into the sky with insane gains and everything seems to be really expensive right now when you look at the prices from the January this year.

I myself plan on holding for at least 3 years regardless of the gains I get. I don't want to repeat my mistake of turning down an offer to buy BTC when it was worth a few bucks.

    What about you?

Any other Degens like me, all in on altcoins?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:01 AM PST

So hear me out, i know BTC and ETH are probably the smarter and safer choices but to some people like me, a 3rd worlder with a very limited amount of fiat, lower market cap coins are our only chance to make some gains that could really mean something.

I'm personally all in on altcoins, if i lose money well at least i tried, but if i win some it would really mean the world to me, when you can only put 40 to 50 bucks a month into crypto you really have to risk it and go for possibles 5x-10x potential altcoins, being aware of the risks of course.

This is not financial advice whatsoever and i'll probably stay broke lol, but if any of my alt moon someday it would really help a lot :)

What did you guys buy during this Correction? How long do you think it will last?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 05:04 AM PST

Personally, I am thinking of buying some CAKE to stake (I haven't bought anything yet), but I was wondering what you guys were stocking up on. It's going to be super interesting to see what happens in the next 48 hours with this covid news, and how the global markets will react. Do you guys believe that we will close off November in the red? Let's hear your thoughts down below. I think that the crypto market will drop a little more so I didn't panic bought. I am gonna wait for it to drop more. What do you think? Cheers!

    Back at extreme fear guys

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:47 PM PST

The fear and greed index is back at extreme fear. I love to see that. I get greedy when it says extreme fear. I haven't seen much fear online yet, except for news articles saying that crypto is now in a bear market.

And holy shit, that makes me so bullish.

Other things that make me bullish:

    - Peter Schiff is laughing at Bitcoin and saying people should have invested in gold. This is a bottom signal

    - The president of El Salvador bought the dip, this is a bottom signal

    - Benjamin Cowen says: Time is on our side, this means time is on our side

    - Bitcoin dominance doesn't shoot up yet, so the whales aren't scared, people are still in altcoins

    - The bull market support band got tested at around 53K

    - People in the Buttcoin subreddit are laughing

If history is an indication, it's a good idea to become bullish when u/wiardv becomes bullish. I'm bullish, so you should be bullish as well. Be bullish my friend

Meanwhile, the third largest Bitcoin address just bought 991 BTC at $54,190 few hours ago. This address has accumulated 7,066 more BTC in Nov 2021. Don't panic sell, keep your DCA steady. The bull market is far from over.

One of my favourite activities is whale watching. According to Bitinfocharts, the third largest Bitcoin address just bought another 991 BTC at an average price of $54,190.34 few hours ago.

As seen on Bitinfocharts website, this address has just bought 991 BTC today, and has accumulated a lot of BTC in November 2021.

This address now has 114,959.56997991 BTC

Balance as at 27 November 2021 as per Bitinfocharts website

There is still dispute whether this address is a whale or an exchange, but this is a pretty good indicator of how the whales are reacting. So while many planktons are scared off, the whales are accumulating more Bitcoins than ever.

Another interesting thing: This address ranked 81th in February 2019 but have now become the third largest address. Note the first two largest addresses are exchanges (Binance 1st, Bitfinex 2nd)

DCA plus swim-with-the-whale strategy: DCA is the first choice for many small retail investors like us. But also time like this is the perfect opportunity to swim with the whales (of course not by leverage!). The whales move the market and I do think they do it to make even more profits.

I have written a post last week about DCA strategy and the best one in my opinion is: regular DCA + set aside a fund to buy when the flash crash happens. See how the whales swim.

This address has made 3,931,206,864.56 USD profit ever since. But even when we confine it to November, this address appears to time the market perfectly, it sold 1,500 BTC on 09 November 2021 when BTC hit $67,510.46.

I put this into a spreadsheet:

Third largest Bitcoin address activities in November 2021 - summary

So I think: DCA, don't panic, buy the dip like the whales do. The bull market is far from over. Technically we had always been in a bull market since 2010, thinking long term.

the no dislike policy on you tube is a haven for crypto scammers

It's getting ridiculous the Nigerian Prince scam is getting worse and worse on you tube.

The fake channels have seemingly legit names and disguise themselves as a legit channels, mostly a live stream of a crypto conference or talk is shown on a small screen and on the boarders are steps to magically double your crypto holdings. The video is fake liked by like bots sometimes in the ten thousands.

The new rule that no more dislikes are shown below you tube videos made this even worse.
Imagine being a new Investor and seeing something like this on a seemingly legit YouTube channel and you only see upvotes, of course you fall for it...
Every now and then I mass report every one of them I find. This time I wrote you tube a little message..

Please don't fall for stuff like this.

I have more invested than I'm willing to lose, at this moment

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 08:06 PM PST

The ol' adage goes "don't invest more than your willing to lose", right? Well I did that. I invested 5% of my savings account back in 2020, and that amount, today, has turned into ~40% of my life savings. I've taken profits during rips and used the same funds to buy the dips. I don't have all of that money into coins right now but a fair amount of it in BTC/ETH with relatively low buy ins.

The way I see it, there are quite a few options on how to proceed:

    1. Leave my funds where they are (wallets, buying power on exchanges, etc.) and just keep doing what I'm doing. I haven't been DCA'ing since about July 2021 since I have buying power waiting.

    2. Same as 1, but no matter what, DCA

    3. Take profits and stick to the original 5% invested or so? (Gains are exponential, so I don't think I wanna do this)

    4. Take my original investment and return it into my savings account. Then it's basically "house money" that's invested.

    5. Something else that might be suggested here, except buying ADA, obviously

    What say ye?

    I accidentally rug pulled myself

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 03:27 PM PST

    ...God I'm stupid.

So I had about 6 ONE (Harmony) and I wanted to do an experiment, where the plan was like this.

    • Create 5 coins from Token Jelly.

    • Put a dollar's worth of harmony in one of them.

    • And bridge that Coin with the other Coin on the pool. Then another rinse and repeat.

That way I could have a coin with a market cap multiplying in every step!

Just when I was booking a Bloomberg interview with David Rubenstein, however, I found out something strange.

The Coin that i put my 5 Harmony in wasnt showing off. I checked every step and then i found out what was going on...

I accidentally De-Listed the coin from the swap, so my liquidity got vanished god knows where!

So, yea... Like I may be the first man in history to achieve such a thing. It's a good thing... Right?

Having experienced the world of defi exchanges, I understand blockchain technology alil bit better now. Cyrpto is the future! I'm all in. This shit is blowing my mind. Granted I was tripping while discovering all this.

Anyway here's too the future of finance!

Would you be okay with your President buying Bitcoin dips regularly using taxpayers money?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 08:30 PM PST

El Salvador became the first country heading towards Crypto adoption. We all appreciated the move.

El Salvador's president, keeps promoting crypto and the adoption even though so many El Salvador people are against it. El Salvador just bought black Friday's dip with 100 more bitcoins.

My question to you all is, Would you be okay with such investment of your country, using the money paid by you as tax?

Would you be okay with that investment going down and then not being able to use that amount for emergencies?

It is such a tricky question, to which I dont know the answer to.

I want Crypto to be adopted quickly. But I am not sure if I would want my country to use my money in their Crypto investment.

I would be willing to take the risk for myself. But wouldn't want my country to use the funds which are necessary in other development areas of my country.

    What are your thoughts?

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face - Mike Tyson

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:50 AM PST

This quote might be my favourite of all time, because it makes so much sense. We plan, we plan, and we plan, and then suddenly life throws a big haymaker, and our plans become seemingly worthless.

This principle is applicable to the current market. Some of the investors that recently bought in, were probably already planning their retirement and fantasising about how great it would be to tell their boss I quit! (that is a great thing to fantasise about, don't get me wrong).

When the bull comes in looking for red, he will find it. Meaning, the bull market is inevitable. This often leads to total abandonment of initial strategies because the bull market was not considered when constructing the strategy (so it seems). Suddenly the plan looks dumb and people second guess their train of thought. Whilst in reality, the plan might not have been that dumb, it just did not consider all possible outcomes.

People frequently visiting this sub might think yeah yeah, we have read this before, but I love a good analogy and I really think analogies are valuable when it comes to awareness and understanding. Staying focussed and leaving emotions out of judgement, is not easy. In fact, it might just be one of the most difficult things in investing because we cannot control emotions when a lot is at stake. That is why a new angle might be an interesting way of looking at this.

Many great boxers stood in the ring with Mike Tyson and they sure had great plans. Unfortunately, most of them ended up in the hospital not remembering their name and eating out of a straw for a couple of weeks. That does not mean they were not great boxers. His opponents have nothing to be ashamed of when they lost to Mike. The same goes for losing against the bull. Don't beat yourself up if a strategy did not work the way you hoped it would. There is still plenty of time. Learn from it, adjust, and move on. You can still become great.

    Good luck out there.

    Never spend my profits

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 10:45 PM PST

I just wondered how many people are in the same position. I've been investing since early 2020 and have made some good gains, not life changing yet but up 5x original investment.

To this day I've still not spent any of my profit even when I sort of need it. I always find another route in order to cover stuff and not touch my crypto. I'm in several groups and all talk of when they expect to take profit or when they take profit it and in my head I don't see myself taking profit unless I have absolutely no choice.

I know many people think profit taking is healthy but just wondered how many people feel like me?

I always worry that the profit I take could be worth 10x in the future!

Sorry for the rambling, it's early where I am

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 03:39 PM PST

The coronavirus that causes Covid-19 has mutated more than 6,600 times . Major crypto has fallen after South Africa's news. This alone shouldn't be the reason to panic and sell . Especially people new to crypto . This is just FUD and will be over , infact this is a great buying opportunity.

Remember the crash this year? How many of us wished we bought the dip , but we didnt thinking it would go deeper or never recover.

This is a buying opportunity, similar to march 2020 when Covid caused that crash not as intense tho.

If you are in crypto for the Long term , this is a great opportunity to buy, Don't fall for the FUD or panic sell.
