GPU Mining If EVGA Switches You to the LHR Wait List for a Card You Can Switch Back

If EVGA Switches You to the LHR Wait List for a Card You Can Switch Back

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 10:39 PM PDT

So today I got a notice from EVGA saying they switched me to the wait list for their LHR 3060 Ti, and I went to the support page while I was logged into my account and they let me switch back to the card without LHR. Thought I'd mention it here so everyone knows.

Today I learned that mining rigs don't stay on if they catch fire

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:44 AM PDT

So its not what you think. Earlier today I smoked a cigar in the living room. About 10 minutes later I noticed smoke was still in the room, and I thought, thats wierd, they usually don't keep burning once you stop puffing on them.

Then I left for an errand to come back an hour later, but this time, even more smoke. I knew something was wrong and figured it must be one of my rigs. So I immediately go to my vega rig, cuz it runs pretty hot sometimes. I noticed it wasn't pulling as many watts as it usually does and figured the smoke must be coming from somewhere on the rig and immediately shut it down via shutdown now command...

I thought thank God I caught that before it got serious... then I go back to the living room... and noticed, the planter pot I had left the cigar in was smoldering!!!

So what I really learned today is that dry potting soil is flammable. Leaving a cigar in the planter box caught the thing on fire.... and thankfully it wasn't a rig that was smoking.

As a funny side note, after posting this and reloading the page, the mining rig of the month picture that loaded on the side bar is my rig from 4 years ago I submitted when I first started mining, what are the chances! And its still up and running today, although not the rig I had first thought was the cause of smoke.

Would this wiring with dual PSU be safe???

Would this wiring with dual PSU be safe???

I dont use mining board or risers. I just use my board.

I wonder how I need to setup for dual power setup to graphic cards.

If it is not unsafe, could you let me know other ways with pictures?

Safe temperature for 6 pin connector?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 04:58 AM PDT

Hello everyone, What temperature is safe for 6 pin connectors? Yesterday my worker stop mining and one of the GPU'S goes offline, my first taught was a bad riser or the PSU was dying. I discover that the 6 pin splitter of the gpu that went offline had two of the 6 pin burned. I replace it, and today I measure the new cable, and the connector is at 55 to 60c. Is it the normal temperature? The wire is marked as 18 AWG but now I have some doubt about that.

    Thanks.

What’s the longest timeframe for ROI you are currently “ok” with?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 12:10 PM PDT

Just trying to get an idea of the general accepted ROI from the community. Granted it will likely be very different for everyone.

Some people draw the line at 100 days, others less than 300, some seem to be ok with 500. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

Adding custom aluminum waterblock to back of gpu’s. What should I use to insulate from electricity yet conduct a good amount of thermal energy? Is thermalright too insulated for heat/cool transfer?

What helped me the most in my mining endeavors

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 04:14 PM PDT

I'm sure a lot of you won't like what I'm about to say, but yes, I use bots to purchase my GPUs. Up until about 4 months ago, I attempted to secure them manually and of course had 0 luck. Eventually, I was tired of missing drop after drop and paying resale for all of my cards. I decided to look into botting. As you may know, bots are definitely pricey considering they're just software. It was a difficult move to make, but I took the risk and it definitely paid off. I'm now able to get quite a few 30 series GPUs in just a few days on average. I now cut my ROI time down by over 50% on all new cards and I just flip my extras or hook friends up for retail. Just sharing my experiences from "the other side." Not looking to upset anyone 🤙

    Psu questions for 3080 rig

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 11:50 AM PDT

Hey guys, long time lurker but I'm curious what would be a good power solution for a rig of 6 3080s? I also only have a 20a breaker for where I'll be powering it, will this be an issue? Each card would be drawing about 270w each.

Any tips on how others power their 3080 rigs or alternatives, maybe others just divide their 3080s across other rigs?

    Anything helps thanks

Extremely inconsistent AMD 6800 OC settings

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 07:34 PM PDT

Can't get the settings for my AMD 6800 reference to stay consistent.

I've always had problems with it.

I followed Son of a Tech's guide to use MorePowerTool to let me lower the min voltage limit to ~620, which worked great for a few days — 63MH at 110W.

Then it dropped out of nowhere to 57MH at 103W, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Using AMD Adrenalin / Wattman to apply the settings.

I can change some setting a small amount, like max core freq from 1250 to 1225, and it will drop like 60W off the power and hashrate down to 20Mh. Then I switch from Manual to Automatic > Default, then back, and it goes back up to 103W / 53MH or 80W / 40MH. Etc.

TL;DR shit is always fucked. Rebooted, reinstalled Adrenaline, etc.

Is there a better way to apply these settings on windows?

I don't feel like going down the HiveOS route.

Details - MSI Gaming Edge AC Z390 - The 6800 is on second PSU (Corsair CM750) and connected with a riser. - Using lolminer 1.29 - Have a 6700 XT (that is much more predictable/less inconsistent) in via riser, too. - The 6800 is only card on the second PSU, it's riser is powered by that PSU too.

Does a PCI riser 'passthrough' adapter like this exist?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 01:24 PM PDT

Does a PCI riser 'passthrough' adapter like this exist?

What I'm wanting to do is connect an external GPU to my gaming rig with a PCI riser, but I want all the connections to pass through connections on a case slot, so that the card can be attached/detached without opening up the rig.

Here's my hideous mockup of what I'm imagining:

    https://preview.redd.it/btdpzk1we2871.jpg?width=1106&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0868cb84dbc50154730b04abe5348a143517f73c

So the 6 pin from my PSU would connect to the back of this plate, as well as an 8 pin power from the PSU. The PCI riser would be connected to a pci slot on my mobo, but the usb side of it would connect to the back of this plate as well. Then, the external GPU would be attached to the riser on its side, with the usb cable going from the riser to the front USB connection on this plate, and 6 and 8 pin power extension cables would connect to the plate as well, going to the GPU and PCI riser power input, respectively.

Am I overcomplicating this whole thing? I know I can just open the side window of my case and have the wires dangling around on my desk, connecting the card directly, but I'm looking for a more elegant solution. Any suggestions?

Hope this is the right place to post this has anyone ever used 2 mm pads on 3070 OC vision I believe they do use 1 mm though can anyone confirm this
