Why is nobody looking at the obvious cause of the price drops: RIP TETHER

Looking at the Tether Treasury account in Omni Explorer (https://www.omniexplorer.info/address/1NTMakcgVwQpMdGxRQnFKyb3G1FAJysSfz) I note that the last Tether tokens were issued on November 25th. The US Justice Department announced their criminal probe of Bitfinex and Tether on Nov 20th, two days after the big BTC dumps began. Meaning that Tether may have finally come to an end (although there must still be about $100 million worth of USDT bagholders).

I believe it's common knowledge that Tether was the primary method for artificially propping up the BTC price, so why does no one point out that the price action we're likely seeing is BTC markets "without the drugs" of Tether?

EDIT: updated Tether Treasury URL, updated timeline of events thanks to commenters who replied. Also, I am referring to the CFTC probe into Tether which was announced Nov 20th.

    The Core/Lightning Trolls Are Back!

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 08:35 AM PST

Looks like we're back to business as usual. So many threads with massively upvoted pro-LN comments today. I think it's clear that the SV attack against BCH is waning. They tried, and they failed. Now they're just going back to trying to manipulate us into eating shit with a lightning bolt stamped into it.

Guys, this is incredibly bullish. It means we won, and they're admitting it.

An interesting question on AskHistorians(a great subreddit), illustrating the play between globalism, markets, and money

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 11:46 PM PST

This thread got me thinking about "banking technology".

    https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/7p61s8/how_did_the_money_transfer_for_the_louisiana/

I know a lot of bitcoin supports are also gold supporters.

Would a world-class gold trading platform create a better market for global transactions? Perhaps. But that was tried, and it didn't work. If you've been following the anti-fed counter-cultural for a while you probably already have some idea why.

Consider for a moment that fiat going over the "wire"(or telegram, or western union, or pony express, or letter, or whatever) between trusted parties of banks, can create a larger, more liquid market, than from, for example, shipping gold around the world.

Let's also note another positive aspects of "fiat". In addition to the ease of transferability of bank-notes, Fractional Reserve banking also lends more power to the issuer.

Perhaps you find that morally objectionable, but please don't forget that "defense" is a legitimate act, and remember that I am not making a moralistic argument. A gun can be used to kill Hitler or rob an old lady. What about banking as a technology? The ability to shift capital to fight wars or to save bankrupt super-banks is a benefit, if viewed from a different perspective. Whether that power is used for good or evil, is another issue.

So what is the dollar? The old issuers, regional city-banks, simply combined their power to form a Megazord of Banks, The "Federal" Reserve.

Does all that mean fiat is "better" than gold?

No. It's not so simple. The goldbugs have legitimate gripes with the current system. It sacrifices some financial sovereignty. And also, the fairness of the current system has always been questionable, even more-so in the post-2008 era.

Can we build a global economy on gold? on digital gold?

Can we build a global economy on blockchain?

Update! In response to the Nov 15 fork, we've implemented a coin-splitting solution that allows us to safely resume BCH services on web, with BCH representing Bitcoin Cash ABC. We will be begin rolling out Android and iOS today as well.

    Post-split question

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 07:44 PM PST

I split my coins with ElectronCash and sent them to HitBTC. They were then sold for BTC (yes it took forever!), transferred to another exchange and sold for BCH, and then moved off the exchange back to me. When I look at the receiving address I used in HitBTC on the shitty SV explorer (bchsvexplorer) it still shows the coin balance there. What's the explanation for that?

To be honest, the CashAddr transition has been ugly, and has been dragging on way too long. Half the BCH ecosystem can't communicate with the other half.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 03:05 AM PST

Only Supports BCH CashAddr Address Format:

    • Bitpay wallet

    • Blockchain.com wallet

    • BRD Bread Wallet

    • Edge Wallet

    • Trezor hardware wallet

Only Supports BCH Legacy Address Format:

    • Ledger hardware wallet

    • Jaxx wallet

    • Binance exchange

    • Kraken exchange

As a result, we're still getting confused users asking why they can't send their BCH, and I have to keep pointing them to the conversion tool at https://cashaddr.bitcoincash.org

We really need Ledger & Binance to support CashAddr soon.
