Bank of England and UK Authorities Positive Stance On Distributed Ledger Technology Posted: 27 Nov 2018 03:40 AM PST Yesterday I was doing some research into the adoption of Ripple's products and DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology), and I came across a letter send by Mark Carney, the governor of The Bank of England, to Nicky Morgan MP, the Chair of The Treasury Committee in the UK in July 2018. In my opinion, there are several key points mentioned in this letter that could mean a thing or two: - 1- Bank of England does not see most crypto-assets to be effective for use as a currency to ever cause a threat to traditional fiat currencies. It also sees the value of most crypto-assets to be based on their claimed potential use as currencies which could be proven worthless in the future. [ My own interpretation is that any crypto-asset, that doesn't have a use case other than being a "currency", will most probably fail according to the bank's view ]. 2- The bank has been looking into implemrnting the use of DLT into their system, but claim that it is not yet reliable or mature to run on such a large scale. The bank is still working with other institutions in order to further assess the benefits of using DLT. [ Very expected as larger initiations will be hesitant to implement products from start-up companies. However, it is obvious that the bank is definitely willing to incorporate DLT into their system once they are confident that it is reliable and mature, which I believe will happen eventually but will take a few more years ]. 3- The bank worked with Ripple in 2017 to test it's technology but did not implement it. [ The bank is definetly still working with Ripple as it is the leading company offering products using DLT. xRapid was not fully developed at that time, showing that the bank will most likely find huge value in xRapid compared to other DLT products they have tested ]. 4- The bank will work with HM and FCA to deliver a Crypto-Asset Taskforce report, which was later published on 30th of October 2018. The report clearly states that current regulations do not stop any financial insitution from implementing DLT into their system. Also, it lists future work related to crypto-assets to be carried out by UK authorities, most of the by early 2019, including Bank of England plan to fully prepare their RTGS system to interface with innovative DLT-based payment platforms. The bank stated that it will provide a timing for the expected competition of this work by the end of 2018. Overall, it is clear that the Bank of England, and other banks in the the world, are all very interested in utilising DLT. I have no doubt that Ripple will be leader in delivering DLT solutions. However, this level of adoption is still at least a few years away in my opinion, as it takes a lot of research, testing and regulating within institutions to carry out such a huge step towards changing their infrastructure. Ripple (XRP) - what makes it so important in next year... Posted: 27 Nov 2018 02:33 AM PST There are many thoughts in Ripple community for its future implementations. Its potential to become most successful technology is quite high, as it is not just about crypto tokens but about the future of blockchain as well. Year 2019 is going to be quite crucial for it.
