Welcoming newcomers to the xrp community

    Posted: 20 Sep 2018 02:46 PM PDT

With the increased attention on xrp with these 40%+ price increases - we will inevitably bring new people asking what some would term 'stupid questions'.

Some will be complete newbies to crypto, others will have been led to believe the FUD train over xrp and are now trying to re-educate themselves about xrp. It is paramount that as a community we are as welcoming as we can be.

I will put it out there now - if I see any ignorant, none welcome responses (even to the simplest of questions) I'm going to be downvoting your arse. I would hope everybody else do the same.

We need to welcome these new folk into our community with open arms. No question is ever a stupid question if you don't know the answer.

PSA: Chinese New Year seems to have ended. This explains the pump.

    Posted: 20 Sep 2018 01:48 PM PDT

As many long-time investors may know, XRP crashed back in January-February because they were buying gifts for Chinese new year. Apparently, this year was the year of lavish giving, as it seems the New Year Celebration is finally winding down after a good 8-9 months.

Boy, how I wish I lived in China.

Information for newcomers to help you get started

    Posted: 20 Sep 2018 05:18 PM PDT

I am making this post to help any newcomers for educational/research purposes. In a previous post, there were some concerns for finding valid information and news sources. Hopefully this will help you get a better understanding of Ripple/XRP, or to keep you updated on relevant information.

    Ripple's Partnerships - lists potential/official partnerships and whether they are piloting/using xrapid/xcurrent.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E1AcLBd_ykemoDAPwZsbl5f2wyrS7RhlAt94CrHXTAg/edit#gid=1168577263

Valid sources of information - Personally I use twitter's platform to follow members of the XRP community. They keep speculation to a minimum and try to remain as accurate as possible. Some notables to follow (there are many more) @davidschwartz , @BankXRP , @XRPCenter , @xrptips , @tiffanyhayden , @hodor7777 , @XRPTrump , @C3nik , and many more but this will help you get started.

Meaningful News and content relating to XRP

    https://xrp.media/weekly-news-summary/

XRP Community Calendar - Any upcoming events related to XRP and Ripple   https://xrp.media/community-calendar/

To keep up on news and relevant information, I would STRONGLY recommend looking at the community's blogs   https://xrpcommunity.blog/

Just a fun website I like to visit

    https://www.zerpening.info/

If I missed anything or anyone else wants to add anything please comment. One of the attributes that I liked about Ripple/XRP was the intelligence of the community and the ability to always remain as accurate as possible. If you are new or just looking around.... WELCOME! If you are have been here for awhile, hopefully this acts as a refresher. Either way happy rippleing!!!

    EDIT:
    As /u/HODLmanHODL pointed out.

This is another website, it gives XRP stats, rich lists, etc.:   https://ledger.exposed/rich-stats#percentage

17 year old crying of life-changing money

    Posted: 20 Sep 2018 04:11 PM PDT

I'm a 17 old kid that literally teared up and burst crying when I saw those sparks popping up. I worked for 7 months straight at a grocery store and made a scheme of things that I needed to pay, and on what I can save on. I did my research on XRP and came to the conclusion that XRP was seriously undervalued. My parents are considered poor in this rich western country but they do the best they can.

I saved up 4783,80 Euro's and bought BTC in 6189. I timed XRP on .27 and bought ( undisclosed ) of it. then repeated .31 and .37 each for roughly ( undisclosed ). holding currently (-)k ripple/XRP. This is life-changing money for me. I will give enough money for my parents to quit their side jobs. And pay the future study debts that I will get. The remaining XRP will behold long-term.

I just need to figure out when to exit. Those numbers on my crappy Dell laptop are haunting me, I want that shit in my bank account ASAP. But I know I need to ride this rocket at least to X rapid and maybe Swell.

    EDIT: Sensitive information

Cashing out long term capital gains question

    Posted: 20 Sep 2018 01:18 PM PDT

    According to h&r block website

    2018 Long-Term Capital Gain Rates

0% if your income is below $38,700 and you are filing as single (or over $77,400 for married filing jointly) 15% if your income is between $38,701 and $500,000 you are filing as single (or between $77,401 and $600,000 for married filing jointly) 20% if your income is over $500,000 and you are filing as single (or over $600,000 for married filing jointly)

I am interpreting this two ways and not sure which is correct.

Does the yearly income count separately from cashing out? If I make less than $38k then my cash out is taxes at 0%?

Or does this mean that up to $38k cash out I am not taxed?

Someone told me that in Florida you are not taxed on any capital gains if you have been unemployed for more than a year, is this true?

    Ripple vs XRP

    Posted: 20 Sep 2018 05:07 PM PDT

I am fairly new to the fact that Ripple, the company, is separate from XRP, the digital asset. I bought XRP thinking it was one in the same on the idea that Ripple the company is increasing their bank partnerships with their xRapid technology, and in doing so, making lots of headway for future profit (of which I could capitalize on). However, knowing what I know now, what is the logic in investing in XRP if it is a digital asset that's value/"price" has no bearing on Ripple's benefit. For further explanation, Ripple does not necessarily care about XRP's value because it uses it as an intermediary when exchanging currency, correct? So regardless if XRP is $0.50 or $50, they don't care as long as they're partnering with banks and cashing in on cross-border payments with their technology.

So I guess my inquiry is: If you believe in Ripple, should you really believe in XRP? And why? Aside from the fact that people will just inflate the price because of the Ripple technology... or is that the hope?

Thanks for any clarification! I love Ripple and what it can do for the future, and look forward to learning more from those of you who have been along for the ride for a while.

Which one has the cheapest fee? USD deposit? I use uphold but they would charge 1.5 % that's a lot! From xrp to fiat. Anyone have a plan in regards to this?

Speculation: Do you think this is unsustainable growth?

    Posted: 20 Sep 2018 04:41 PM PDT

Hi, I really hate speculation, but this seems like explosive yet not unsustainable growth as this has been a stepped increase. There have been multiple setbacks which leads me to believe wherever this growth stops will remain for a while. What do you think? Me and my buddy are considering selling it for precaution...
