Posted: 21 Sep 2018 03:00 PM PDT "The beauty of Civil is that it's community-driven. But in the event you feel the Civil Constitution has been violated, you can appeal to the Civil Council. We'll hear your case." The backgrounds of people on the council, employees, and current newsrooms on Civil are all left-leaning. There isn't a single conservative voice involved in the project at all. They claim that a supermajority of 66.7% of token holders can veto the council, but as we know quorums that high are impossible to achieve. During the DAO disaster the community could barely muster a 20% quorum. There's no doubt in my mind that this is not a platform that will protect free speech. It's almost certain that Conservative newsrooms will be banned because they 'cause harm and offend people', as per the Civil constitution. Not only is this economic and governance structure doomed to fail in lieu of more decentralized and open platforms that guarantee free-speech, but it also goes against the libertarian-leaning cypherpunk values of censorship resistant platforms and networks. The world could use a decentrazlied newsroom that protects free speech and doesn't have a centralized 'Council' that decides what wrongthink needs to be banned from the platform. Civil unfortunately is not it. [link] [comments] | ||
