Ethereum Core Devs, take as long as you need to implement Constantinople, Istanbul, etc. Posted: 21 Sep 2018 08:25 PM PDT With the recent discovery of CVE 2018-17144 found in Bitcoin Core protocol, despite their best efforts and their perfectionist attitude, a bug which could have crashed their network was allowed to slip through the cracks. The fact that this whole space dodged a bullet seeing how no miner exploited the bug, made me come to the realization that coding on blockchain protocols is a very delicate process. The bug which almost cost billions wasn't even from an update that had any major changes. Ethereum will be undergoing several hardforks and software upgrades over the course of the next 2-3 years, including a complete overhaul of how the network operates. There must be immense pressure from people using the chain to upgrade it and from the fact that billions of dollars of value is riding on their work being right while at the same time, trying to make sure that they get it right. I just want them to know that I understand any delays, and as a matter of fact, take as much time as you need to make Ethereum as secure and safe as possible. You can't rush changing the world. Don't let us fail before it even begins. [link] [comments]

How to determine what my transaction nonce was Posted: 22 Sep 2018 05:44 PM PDT I did a send transaction for an ERC223 token, but when I searched the tx hash in etherscan it just gave me that message saying sorry it can't find it. I don't have a record of the transaction hash. I understand that if I resend the transaction with the same nonce and much higher gas it can go through; however I didn't note the nonce when I sent the original transaction. Is there a way to figure out what the nonce was? Otherwise it seems I could be waiting many days for the original transaction to go through. I tried to do another send transaction from the same address (different token) and of course it's stuck in limbo too. Would the nonce of my account have incremented by one after the first in-limbo transaction? Would it have incremented again with the second in-limbo transaction? [link] [comments]

Preparing for a Ethereum Hackathon/What to expect as a participant Posted: 21 Sep 2018 11:55 PM PDT I was planning attending EthDenver in a couple of months. I'm currently a 3rd-year undergrad student with no experience in developing dApps at all. I was initially planning on attending just to go to presentationsbut I decided that I would actually want to participate in building something since I was going. What's the best way start learning and developing in preparation for EthDenver? Should I learn about Solidity? Do people usually combine their dApps with web frameworks? Any sources of information would be good (I'm already reading this). Also, feel free to share about your experiences at hackathons (especially Ethereum ones), especially if you went in alone. I know hackathons can be a bad experience when going alone and/or if you are not prepared so I'd like to avoid at least one of those. [link] [comments]
