Safely wire a 6 x Vega 56 rig with Server PSU's Posted: 29 Apr 2018 07:27 AM PDT I have a Vega 56 rig and 2 server PSU's (1200w and 750W). I bought breakout boards for them on Amazon which came with 12 x 6 pin to 6+2 pin cables. I think this is pretty standard and I've plugged 2 of these into each GPU and one into each PCIe riser. This means that I've used a total of 3 cables per card. I would like to clean up the cables and the first thing that I would like to do is get splitters for powering the PCI risers. I've read that I should only power 2 risers per cable. I've found splitters that are both 6 pin female -> 2 x 6+2 pin and 8 pin female -> 2 x 6+2 pin. My question is which is better and also what difference would it make to use those. My second question is if it is safe to use the same splitters to power my GPU's. Each GPU has 2 x 8-pin inputs, so I would theoretically add the splitter to one cable and power plug the 2 x 6+2 pins directly into one GPU. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Apr 2018 04:28 AM PDT Hi guys! I bought a rig last week from a local shop and I think they screwed up powering the risers. Its a 4x570 rig with 2x750W Psu and all 4 risers are powered with the slave Psu (4 molex in 1 chain) while 3 cards are powered by the main Psu and only 1 is powered by the slave. I did a little bit of research on the subject and everybody was saying that the risers should be powered by the same Psu as the card. My main problem is that the rig sometimes doesn't boot up. It starts but the bios doesn't even show up. I see the keyboard lighting up but after 5-10 goes off and repeat. I changed everything in the rig but the problem still occurs and my guess is the risers. Can they create a ground loop or something? And will they cause a problem with 4 molex in 1 chain? Dwarfpool ETH + Claymore - e-mail monitoring when worker dies doesn't work, any ideas? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:49 AM PDT Hi, I am using SMOS, with Claymore v9.8 on 9xRX570, mining Ethereum. I was on holiday and my miner has failed, lost 5 days of mining, but haven't received any e-mail. I've got my e-mail set using the: Anyone managed to configure it? [link] [comments]
XMR-Stak vs SRBMiner - SRBMiner Wins (Cryptonight Heavy) Posted: 28 Apr 2018 09:36 PM PDT I'm no genius but I get about 10% better results on SRBMiner and easier to tune IMHO, plus the dev fees are half. 6x RX 580s mixed cards, 1x RX 560 (GPU5 threads 10/11). I have one nVidia not shown. Board is BioStar 8PCIe BTC-250. The 560 runs much faster (if I tuned the 560 any more with XMR-Stak it crashed). GPU3 is 8gig, the others are 4gig. Both XMR-Stak & SRBMiner were tuned card by card to just under crashing. I have NO RELATIONSHIP with either software provider. Hope this helps;) SBRMiner 1st auto run to get approximate intensities Hash of auto is better than XMR-Stak after tuning... SRBMiner after tuning about 10% faster - note hand tuned intensities... Self promo - My brother and I built a Twitch app. Mine and tip instantly at Hitlist.tv Posted: 28 Apr 2018 12:55 PM PDT Hey thanks for reading, the mods allowed me make this one time promo. We're currently trying to find some early adopters to help test the mining platform. The idea is you can mine and instantly make micro-payments to streamers. Check out the homepage here www.hitlist.tv. This is beta software and a work in progress. How does it work? We're acting as a mining pool and allowing users to tip their "shares" on the platform. By trading amounts on an internal ledger we side step tx fees. The plan is to use a fixed pay-per-share system pegged to Monero currently. Free to give a hand and kick the tires? I'd love to have your help! Just shoot me a PM with your mining setup and I'll help you get started - thanks! Cheers, Mike Edit: Thanks for the update on the bright pink theme. For the sake of your eyes I pushed an update. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Apr 2018 06:49 PM PDT So spring is here, good time to start taking care of the outside of the house, de-thawing from winter, etc. I turn on the hose outside, notice a little drip. That's not good. Turn it off, go inside to make sure it's not leaking in the basement. Holy hell it looks like Niagra freaking falls inside my basement, which is where my mining rigs are of course located. One is completely drenched, I pull the power and now it's in front of a fan. The other was out of reach thankfully. I'm assuming these 4 GPUs are a total loss. But I'm willing to try anything to revive them, right now the whole PC is completely unplugged and in front of a fan, anything else I can do? Thanks for any input. [link] [comments]
Any issues venting heat to the attic? Posted: 28 Apr 2018 05:30 PM PDT So moving a few rigs to the garage and thinking about how I should cool them in the texas heat. I was going to do 2x small 24x24x48 grow tents and each tent should hold 3x6 card rigs with room on the top for a 8" exhaust fan. If I exhaust the air into the attic would I run into any trouble later on? Or should I buy one of these and install it into the attic vent fan in place to get more air moving? Any other suggestions? How many watts should I be pulling? Posted: 28 Apr 2018 04:46 PM PDT I have 2x580s one 570 and one 390 and I'm currently pulling around 920-960watts on my corsair rm100i (according to corsair link). I feel as if this is quite high and I'm wondering if this sounds normal and if it's even safe to be pulling this close to 1000w. Also would it be safer to just add a second powersupply to my rig? Future of GPU mining; Ethereum moving to PoS Posted: 28 Apr 2018 09:18 PM PDT Ethereum @ 69 Bil market cap 2 is Monero @ 4 Bil market cap 3 is Ethereum Classic @ 2 Bil Market Cap 4 is ZCash @ 1 Bil market cap Ethereum Represents 90% of the GPU mining market share. When Ethereum moves to PoS, ~90% of the value produced for GPU miners will be eliminated. Ethereum goes to a hybrid model first, which lowers GPU miners rewards by 80%. So thats changes it to Ether @ 13.8 Bil mine-able market cap Monero @ 4 Bil market cap Ethereum Classic @ 2 Bil Market Cap ZCash @ 1 Bil market cap Before Eth moves to PoS = 76 Billion Market Cap, GPU minable After Eth moves PoS = 21 Billion market cap that's GPU minable That means that GPU mining should be ~30% as profitable as it is today, if prices stay the same. Thats pretty alarming. So many GPU rigs have been made to specifically mine Ethereum. And thats with Ethereum being 20% mine-able, as stated in Casper FFG. That 20% is still decided to go away eventually. I don't see any other way around this, in the short term. The future, as I predict it, is that GPU mining becomes unfeasbile in the short term. 6-24 months. Then, things like Golem, SONM start gaining traction and provide new uses for GPU mining. Monero is a solid use-case for miners and one of the best coins out there. Maybe our new sanctuary. But to me, the future of GPU mining is not bright. [link] [comments]
HSTNS-PD11 vs HSTNS-PL11, is there a difference? Posted: 28 Apr 2018 02:30 PM PDT Please help a guy out. I bought a breakout board for a HP HSTNS-PD11 1200W PSU, and then bought an HSTNS-PD11 from eBay. When the PSU arrived it looks like it's an HSTNS-PL11, not PD11. Is the pinout the same on these? Will it work with the breakout board or should I buy a different one? Thanks! [link] [comments]
[Nvidia] Expansion, yay or nay? Which GPU? Posted: 28 Apr 2018 09:20 AM PDT Hi fellow miners! I'm pondering on whether to expand my 5x1060 6gb hobby operation, or just sit on my hands. Please share your thoughts. Electricity is $0.15, mining Equihash on MiningPoolHub, LTC payout, making roughly 2x the amount of crypto that I could buy for the money spent on electricity, so it is (still) definitely profitable. Been waiting for bear market, so I mostly sell coins atm, but it is slow to arrive, and also been waiting on new Nvidia cards but they will only arrive in July according to rumours, and only be readily available for us mere retail mortals later, so my palms are itching for building a rig again. I have an old PC ready, with 4 PCI-E slots (tested and working) and a 850w PSU available, my options are 1x 1070 Ti or 1070 or 2x 1060 3gb or 3x 1050 Ti, cca 500+ / 460 Sol, 570 Sol and 540 Sol respectively. Obviously the plan is to keep mining long term, after profitability reaches power cost parity or sinks below just gonna HODL and/or trade on the BTC ratio. Which option would YOU chose in this situation considering resale value, hashrate, efficiency, density, price, crypto market and gpu landscape? Thanks for constructive input in advance!
