ASIC wars: the last algo, an equihash mining guide

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 10:58 PM PDT

GPU casualties. HODL! DONT SELL! Here’s why.

    Posted: 18 Mar 2018 04:00 AM PDT

I'm seeing the prices of GPUs going down. We are going through a period for many that the price of mining will not be affordable. Fear and rumors about new Nvidia cards that will make current hardware obsolete. The plummeting prices of cryptocurrencies. Now is the time to sharpen our tools.

What new altcoins could be possibly mined not listed in coinmarketcap that has a promising future?

What about just buying bitcoins when they get much cheaper and holding?

What about holding out on selling rigs and gpus and just buying up the ones on sale? Yes. GPUs are going on sale.

If predictions are correct about BTC hitting 40K this year, then GPU miners will see the reward for HODLING with their rigs. In fact, as BTC and other alt coins grow GPU miners will be needed around the world more than ever.

The fact is that any new altcoins getting their start will need GPU miners to give them a lift to even being considered for ASIC mining.

There are not very many of us on this planet with the expertise and mindset to custom build a computer, and then step it up a level and configure it for selling hashpower or mining an altcoin. Try showing some of your non-tech friends your rig. They will think you are Steve Jobs from the 1980s on your way to becoming a billionaire.

The global economy is on the verge of a collapse, and the world will flock in droves to BTC as a financial safe haven.

US Federal Debt is $21 Trillion dollars and counting. Our taxes only take in $3 Trilion, and our rate of debt keeps rising while wages keep getting lower.

The US stock market is about to pop and send financial shockwaves around the world. When America sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold.

There is so much borrowing, lying, counterfeiting, and the creation of money out of thin air, debits and credits on paper, and the people around the world consuming debt with interest to pay for it all with their wealth and taxes.

This house of cards within our global financial system is running in fumes. It is about to come to a halt.

Our global currencies are nothing more than pieces of government issued paper used to transfer wealth and value, based on faith and credit.

The faith and credit of many nations paper currencies with the populace is beginning to be doubted and questioned.

Satoshi saw this coming, and he or they invented Bitcoin as a safe haven for humanity.

So please, don't give into the FUD. HODL your rigs. For the coming days, you'll wish to never sold.

Windows shuts down unexpectedly all time!!!

    Posted: 18 Mar 2018 06:58 AM PDT

So I am having this really frustrating issue where my RIG is not even able to mine for 24 hours before windows decided to shut down for no reason at all. I check all the temps, ran troubleshooter on my hardware everything was working as it should and I also installed limited programs to minimize the chance of getting software issues. Despite of this, my rig shuts down once a day at the very least and that is not acceptable for me. I have to go down, set up all overclock settings again and start the miner manually.. And this time I tried mining with no oc settings to see if maybe its because one of my cards crashed, but nope, same shit. And all temps are just fine, they are in a cool enviroment in my basement and there is no reason for it to crash. Now, I have done some research. I heard windows 10 can sometimes have the issue where users experience unexpected shutdowns with no apparent reason. I checked with eventlog and all information it could give me was "The previous system shutdown at 1:54 PM on 3/18/2018 was unexpected. Here's a few pics: https://gyazo.com/39e14ba81958d70c412de4da8af07bf1

    https://gyazo.com/c38409cde62da8c8caa9500e268f16cb

So has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you solve it? I am thinking about downgrading to windows 8.1, but it's just a pain in the butt going through that process again, I used hours upon hours just getting my rig to work due to stupid driver issues. I have a mixed rig, 3x 1060, 2x rx 570 and 1x 1070. I have another 3x rx 570 waiting to be put onto the rig but I need another server psu, so thats gonna be fun to see how windows handles 9 cards. On the verge of changing to linux but I know nothing about that OS and I really don't wanna dive into that whole area right now. I just want it to mine uninterrupted for more than 24 hours before shutting down. My hardware is: b250 mining expert and 400w masterwatt lite for the mobo, ssd and cpu in case that's relevant. Appreciate the help!

Awesome :) cant take the credit but thought I’d share

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 11:30 AM PDT

Never thought I would see a 1080ti only making 87 cents a day and Rx580 doing 60 cents pre volta/ampere..

    Posted: 18 Mar 2018 06:31 AM PDT

I get it, I'm mining for satoshi, rah rah rah dont fud. I pay 17c per kWh as I'm in Aus. But this feels seriously insane. Mining profits have been on a downward trend and I dont see it really improving considering the continual spike in mining difficulty coupled with crashing crypto prices. Still mining through this shit storm until my cards are cost me more to run than what they make but holy hell I didn't see this coming lol.

    Mining farm

Exactly how much of a capacity is considered as a mining farm? 1000 GPUs? 10000 GPUs?

I cant get the power consumption down below 150W for Sapphire Nitro RX 580

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 04:58 PM PDT

    • So I see people using these cards an they get around 110W per card with modded bios. Some people even get down to 90W. I tried 10 different bios where people claim they do 30-31MH with 110W but I cant get it down below 140W per card. I was able to get 1 powercolor red devil down to 115W, but no luck with 10x Sapphire Nitro rx 580 I have. Any tips ? I even modified the bios myself and hard coded the power limit and wattage setting, but still no luck.

Thinking of getting out of mining?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 09:21 AM PDT

Just wondering if anyone is thinking about getting out / selling their gear?

With everything so down and 1080tis making so little just thinking the ride might be over and time to unload gear.

    What's your thoughts?

Why does AMD and NVIDIA care more about gamers than miners?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 09:22 AM PDT

Why does NVIDIA and AMD care so much about gamers specifically?

I've bought more GPUs during the last 8 months than I would have ever purchased in my entire lifetime if I was a gamer. Why do they care so much about a gamer who buys 1 or 2 cards every few years vs miners who buy in bulk? What am I missing?

What people mined before Eth started to be profitable? (AMD cards)

Asking for a friend who was stupid enough to start mining with AMD. Joking, I'm the stupid one..

    What specs matter for gpumining?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 01:16 PM PDT

Does anyone have a resource that will help me understand how the technical specs of the motherboard, cpu, and gpus in a gpu mining rig affect the hash rate? In other words what aspects of these components are important to hash rate

Smos keeps shutting off rig due to temp?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 12:46 PM PDT

Have a 1080ti rig with 1 bastard mini 1080 card that gets hot. Smos shuts down the rig when that 1 card hits 82 anyway to disable this feature?

    Mining Window Location

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 05:55 PM PDT

Hey there folks, I had a question for you all.

I am using a miner software that switches miners (imagine the way Nice Hash Legacy Works) and the windows close and pop up optimizing the process.

My problem however is that the windows always pop up over my main screen and do not remember their locations even if I have moved them before.

Is there a way to place one of these miners in a certain location, at a certain size, and it always pop up in that spot instead of starting at the default location and size?

I have a triple monitor setup and would prefer to dedicate one monitor to it.

I thought that Windows would remember the locations as it does for so many other things. Just these seem to ignore their past locations.

Working on modifying the Radeon HD 7850 BIOS already have seen close to 18mh/s need to tweak a few more things and expect a much more efficient bios for older gpu's
