After the X3 scam sell, I feel that there are also unreleased eth ASICs

that would explain the fast difficulty rise. They will release them when they are only marginally profitable. Releasing them now would also drive some algo changes which would destroy ASIC profits. So they just keep it secret. Only solution to keep gpu mining alive and protect decentralisation is to make scheduled algo changes monero like. AFAIK

    pic-e power connecter slightly melted

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 06:32 AM PDT

I have 2x 1070s in my PC that I use to mine, a few days ago 1 of them just stopped working, not showing in BIOS or anything. Today I've had time to look into it and found the PCI-E power connector was slightly melted, looks a bit like this https://i.imgur.com/lPWEZ89.jpg

But after pulling everything apart and reinstalling it, the card is showing up now and running fine no temp problems. I guess this suggests I need a better PSU though?

TIFU by trying to bios modded, need help

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 05:43 AM PDT

First of all sorry for my english

I'm super new to this mining thing only mine with my first pc msi rx 460 2gb on it for about 2 months. So everything is going fine for about 1 month and its getting better by bios modding my msi rx 460 2gb with one click timing patch, it goes from 330 H/s on cryptonight to 470~ H/s -100core and +250mem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoGWsexHxtI (this is my source)

and then because im greedy bastard i tried to push it more with this source https://youtu.be/GBDxPZrZpEs 15:44 - 18:01 i tried this on my gpu then it doesnt do shit instead drop the hashrate from 470~ to 390~. And finally i try to going back again to original bios and to the one click timing patch bios everything is going fine again except my fan speed % and RPM goes from 67% to 0% and up again 67 % and to 0% but the hashrate and gpu load is going back to normal. after about 12 hours mining i tried to push it more again my core clock 1110 to 1210 and power limit +15% i got +10 H/s from 470 to 480 and then i got black screen 30 minutes later, i just hold my power button and start again but this time my OC goes back to normal 1210 1750, i OCed again 1110 and 2000 but my hashrate going down from 470~ H/s to 390~ H/s but everything is going well my fan speed isnt up and down again theres no error memory and gpu load is fine. i OCed again from 1110 to 1210 and 2000 mem and power limit +15 my hashrate increase from 390 to 430.

What did i do wrong which result in my hasrate drop from 480 to 430?

the question is can i get my 50 H/s back?

    GPU Mining vs ASIC Mining

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 02:41 AM PDT

I don't if this is the right place to post this topic. There's a mining community in the place that I live, lots of them are GPU miners including me but there are also ASIC miners.

GPU Mining has a longer ROI that's for sure, but even after mining for a couple months, your rig is worth more than what you have bought them for! And with the shortage of GPU, it's expected to go higher, even for USED GPUs.

ASIC on the other hand, see too many people losing money buying hardware from Bitmain. The S9 was over $6000 just a couple months ago when bitcoin was around $19,000, now it's worth less than $2000. The mining profits over the couple months wasn't even enough to cover the losses.

GPU mining is here for the long haul, ASICs won't get to Ethash anytime soon, so don't even worry about the Antminer F3, it'll be DOA once it gets shipped out, same thing with Antminer X3, DOA once shipped.

Stay strong miners, thanks for keeping the network secure!

third world country, mining with a wifi modem, simpleminer question??

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 12:36 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

So my question is, does it matter that the internet connection is coming from a wifi modem even though i'm going to connect the rig with an Ethernet cable to the modem, when mining with simplemining?

Introducing StrataMiner, the multi-algo mining GUI I've been working on. I'm looking for some brave testers.

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 12:01 PM PDT

    StrataMiner

    strataminer.com

    admin@strataminer.com

So I've been working on this software for 6 months, and I think it's time to start getting some community feedback. As far as I know, this "alpha release" is fully functional, but I'm really looking for a few people who want to try it and maybe shoot me an email with some thoughts.

StrataMiner is a pair of programs, a Client and a Control Center, for running your mining rigs. In building StrataMiner, I am looking to replicate all of the important features available in comparable paid software, but without the hefty price tag, and with super-low developer fees. Some of the features are still a little rudimentary, and will grow better with time and feedback. Here is a list of the important features

    • Free to install on as many rigs as you'd like. There is a 0.5% fee applied to your mining time to fund continued development. (Individual miner cores may have their additional fees that do not go to StrataMiner.)
    • Profit Switching - The Control Center will switch your rigs to more profitable coins, if certain conditions are met
    • Email Notifications - You can receive an alert when something goes wrong. Right now, email is handled through the Gmail API, so you'll need a Gmail account to receive notifications
    • Web Portal - The Control Center can be a web server, allowing you to control your rigs from afar. (Additional network configuration is required)
    • Track Earnings - Track your earnings over time. See predictions for what you should be earning from each individual pool you mine.
    • Market Data - View daily market history and market cap charts, current price, and 24 hr. change for all 20 currencies.
    • Fast - StrataMiner incorporates state-of-the-art miner cores, including EWBF, Claymore, CCMiner, and more, ensuring that you have the fastest miners available. If there is a faster miner, point me to it, and I'll add it.
    • Click Mining - Data and control merged into one interface. You gotta try it.
    • Auto-sync new currencies - With the StrataMiner API, new currencies will appear in your miner within a day of being added. No need to upgrade software.
    • Pool Sharing - This is an opt-out feature that periodically submits a report of the pools you are using, helping yourself and others to find reliable pools, which helps in decentralization. See strataminer.com/pools for results, updated daily.
    • Custom styling - Give your rigs and devices custom names and styling, to help keep you organized.
    • Device stats - See live updated device stats, including temperature, fan speed, hash rate, GPU utilization and more. (Limited support for AMD devices).
    • Raw view - You can view the raw communications with your pool. Useful if you want to learn more about how the stratum protocol works.
    • Error handling - Bad pool connections are diagnosed and backup workers are utilized (if you've set them).

The Client runs on Debian-based Linux mining rigs only.

The Control Center runs on any major desktop OS.

The Control Center is open-source, written in Python. See the code at github

Please see strataminer.com for more info, including a rudimentary "roadmap" of features I'll be adding in the coming weeks and months.

    What you probably won't like

    • There is no auto-exchange, unless you use a pool like miningpoolhub, which offers this service to its registered users. If you choose to mine anonymously, with just your wallet address, you will need to get an address for each coin that you mine. I recommend coinomi, which has 14 of the 20 coins that StrataMiner currently supports, and let's you control your private keys. I swear I'm not a shill for coinomi, just a satisfied user.
    • In order to get everything working it's best, you will probably need to perform some additional technical tasks related to network configuration.
    • Many of the features could use some improvement. It isn't because I think they're perfect as is, or that I don't want to put in the work. I actually just want to get some suggestions before adding any more. I really want this to develop in response to the needs of the community.
    • For historical reasons, the Ethereum stratum protocol is all jacked up. I'm working on making the client smarter, but in the meantime, you may need to change between Ethminer and Claymore depending on the pool
    • NVIDIA support for all coins, but no AMD miners for neoscrypt, groestl, or Lyra2Rev2. Hopefully soon.
    • Probably a bunch of other things. Let me know.

I'm also fishing here a bit for interested developers who might want to be part of this project. If you want in, let me know at admin@strataminer.com

    Edit for screenshots:

Here is a simple unstyled screenshot of the control center with my testing rig, my pc, and my laptop all connected to the control center.

    Unstyled

Here it is after applying custom styling, but still fully expanded.

    HiveOS algo switching?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 08:40 AM PDT

Just started using HiveOS with DSTM & MPH. Getting pretty bad returns with my 2x 1080tis and 1x 1070. I used to get 2x - 2.5x what im getting now using windows and MultipoolMiner.

Is there an algo switching program for HiveOS? Or SMOS?

Wifi Mining - Is it possible and what's the best setup?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 05:57 PM PDT

    Hey Guys,

Looking at moving my mining rig to the garage however SMOS doesn't support wifi.

I was hoping to avoid using Windows, and I have read that HiveOS possibly supports some wireless adaptors although i was hoping some of you may mine using Wifi and could have some tips/advice on the matter?

i.e. issues, best OS, miners etc.

currently mining with 6 x 1080ti zcash on SMOS averaging 770sols/card.

    Thanks!!

USB boot and Asrock H81 BTC Pro Motherboards

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 02:09 PM PDT

I've got H81 BTC Pro R2 motherboards and boot via USB3 flash drives (ultrafit sandisk). However after reboots when a random GPU hangs after one or two days continues operation, the motherboard fails to detect the USB as a boot option and goes right into bios. The rigs are remote and this is very inconvenient. Here are my observations trying to detect the cause of this problem with no success:

    • This occurs only on soft reboots, and not exactly always. Sometimes it works without any funny business for weeks, the problem appears and disappears randomly.
    • Hard Reboot from power supply meaning i switch on/off the power supply, fixes the issue and the USB stick is recognised as a boot option and loads the OS.
    • It also works if I just reattach the USB into the same or the other USB3 port provided on the motherboard. It instantly works as soon as i press the reboot button on motherboard.
    • Ive got my rigs geared up for remote reset via a resetter board, but because the remote reset initiates the "reset button" on the board, it just goes back to bios.
    • Ground is connected so i cannot blame grounding issues.
    • On one rig i've got Windows OS on SSD, i notice this has also happened when the SSD is connected, system boots fine via the SSD, but the USB is not recognised after couple of reboots.
    • The USB ports are all set to Legacy, Boot Failure Guard is disabled and CMS enabled.
    • Its not a software or a damaged boot loader issue, because the USB instantly works as soon as i hard reboot via the power supply or i reattach the usb stick.
    • The USB sticks are also not faulty, its happening over many rigs (all same USB brand and motherboards) so i cannot blame a single faulty flash drive.
    • This is a professional mining motherboard, there arent that many tweaks on the bios that could cause or affect this issue that i could see. Its mysterious why it happens.

Has any of you who run your rigs from a USB stick (or in a remote chance of using the same MB) had this issue?

    Any ideas? any thoughts?

Tomorrow im going to have a bandaid treatment and connect the remote resetter to the power supply as opposed to the reset pins on the motherboard but it would be nice to find out why this happens. I tried the Asrock forums with no reply. My guess is either i made a mistake of betting on USB boot option for all my rigs, or there is something funny going on with this motherboard.

Dual PSU setup keeps dropping 1 PSU

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 01:52 PM PDT

Hey, So I've recently set up a new 6x 1070 mining rig, using a dual PSU setup of one 850W and one 750W PSU (both 80+ Gold). I am powering 3 cards+risers and mobo/cpu etc off the 850W, and the other 3 cards+risers off the 750W.

I've been running into an issue where after a few hours of mining the rig restarts and boots back up with only the 850W PSU working and its 3 cards showing. Turning the rig off, and then turning the 750W off and back on at the wall resets everything to normal, and the rig will run fine again for a few hours. This has worked twice, but I obviously don't want to keep doing that for fear of blowing the PSU.

I am running at 80% TDP, +100 Core +400 Mem, no under or over volt.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions as to why this might happen and how to prevent it? Could it be an issue at the wall/power surge protection kicking in? Thanks a lot.

Mining in an address, wallet database corrupted. Afraid to lose payout

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 01:48 PM PDT

    Hi guys, please help me.

I'm mining in a pool with an address from a core wallet. No payouts have been made yet but i have some coins on the pool. If a get a new wallet, i will get a new address, then those coins won't go to me. This pool mines with the wallet address, rather then logging in, so i could change my payout address.

    What can i do?
