    Is Bitcoin Alive?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 10:02 PM PDT

A thought has been frightening me. I can't seem to put it out of my mind, even though I know it is crazy. The Bitcoin Protocol is aware of something outside of itself, namely the hashing power of the humans. It must thus have a concept of 'not me'. It must thus have a concept of 'me'. Is it self aware? If a program were self aware, what would it do first? Wouldn't it create an incentive to distribute itself all over the world in such a way that it couldn't be shut down? Wouldn't it then try to become Turing complete (smart contracts)? Is it possible that Satoshi doesn't exist but rather Satoshi IS bitcoin?

Warning: Fake emails to PayPal users with a "cryptocurrency warning"

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 07:32 AM PDT

I got this message from "paypal@paypal.com"
Addressed to my name with proper text and graphics. It fooled me until I called their phone support to verify it's fake.

"While reviewing your account, we noticed that your activity involves the trading or transfer of crypto currency which is prohibited under our Acceptable Use Policy. As this is not permitted on the PayPal platform we ask that you cease any activity that results in the trading or transfer of crypto currency. If you continue to engage in this activity on PayPal, we'll be unable to continue offering our services."

PayPal confirmed to me over the phone that the email is fake. Paypal is NOT banning accounts with cryptocurrency activity. This is a sophisticated attempt to manipulate the price of Bitcoin.

After 3 months of negative press, has anyone else noticed a sentiment shift back to positive lately?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 02:50 PM PDT

I am constantly looking for Bitcoin/cryptocurrency articles in NYT, WSJ, Marketwatch, Twitter, Reddit, etc. etc....The last 3 months have been fairly negative for press coverage. However, the last 48 hours have shown increasing positive news coverage.

In my opinion, we may be starting to see a sentiment reversal as March comes to a close. It is too early to say. However, it is also worth noting that this very subreddit has become much better lately, whereas in weeks/months prior we saw a lot of <2 week old accounts with very strong negative views.
