Anyone notice Monero is one of the few to almost reach its previous ATH?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 11:02 PM PST

I did and i like it!!

I have to reach enough characters to be able to post so here's something: Did you know that you burn more calories eating celery than it contains (the more you eat the thinner you become)?

And apparently i need one more:

Did you know Coca-Cola originally contained cocaine?

edit: horrible spelling and morning layout.

6 of 12 top coins are officially centralized

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 07:12 AM PST

I won't get love for this one... but anyway!

Out of the top twelve coins by market cap, six are ran 100% centrally by the founding organizations:

    3) Ripple (Ripple company decides who is the validator - the so called UNL)

    6) NEO (7 trusted nodes controlled by a single party)

    7) Cardano (in the "Bootstrap Era" before target dPoS)

    8) Stellar (edited: this one is a bit nuanced - it feels like a Web-of-Trust with the trust firmly anchored in Stellar Development Foundation; Stellar documentation underlines legal compliance and not censorship resistance; the Stellar Whitepaper states: "In practice, the top tier could consist of anywhere from four to dozens of widely known and trusted financial institutions") - so it is basically based on trusted parties cooperating

    11) IOTA (the "Coordinator")

    12) NEM (the Network Infrastructure Server (NIS) is not open source)

Hard Truths I wish someone told me 8 days ago

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 05:22 PM PST

Ok guys. The bull market is coming in 19 days. I just entered the crypto game 8 days ago but have read a few twitter posts and watched the Bitconnect video. Let me give you all some advice. Go hard or go home. BTC is for suckers looking for 3x gains. If you want the lambo gainz I'm after you need to put together a basket of low marketcap coins that no one has heard of with ICOs that just launched or coins where the website is down and devs have long disappeared. After posting this I am sure everyone will be begging for my portfolio so I will list it below in a very particular order.

    1. Cthulhu Offerings (OFF)
    2. Confido (CFD)
    3. BitConnect (BCC)
    4. CryptoJacks (CJ)
    5. SugarExchange (SGR)
    6. ExchangeN (EXN)
    7. Litecoin Cash (LCC)
    8. Birds (BIRDS)
    9. Ethereum Lite (ELITE)
    10. Premine (PRE)
    11. CoEval

FYI.....if this is not obviously sarcasm, please know that it is sarcasm. This is not a good portfolio. Don't buy these.

This Binance Coin of the Month vote has some awesome irony.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 10:35 PM PST

Binance voided ELA and WePower from the Community Coin of the Month competition due to voting manipulation and chose ZIL as the winner, GO ZIL! Every one of the coins offered incentives for voters I believe, so this is clearly saying that ELA and WePower used bots which is against Binance's strict moral code lol, that part is my 2 cents. Hours before the announcement ZIL begins a massive pump, clearly many people trading on inside information received from Binance employees, or employees themselves buying it up, which is of course totally cool in the crypto space. Just gotta love some of the irony in the crypto community, way to hold your moral high ground Binance! Following is some of the wording of the post from Binance.

The sixth session of "Community Coin of the Month" has now concluded. We have weighed all factors in the voting process and have also applied a consistent methodology across all candidate votes to filter for oddities.

We have taken a very serious stance against vote manipulation, and voided candidates that were found to have openly violated these principles.

    RIP ELA and WPR

    The Sunday dip

    Posted: 05 Mar 2018 02:30 AM PST

I was interested whether the famous Sunday dip was a real thing or a delusion based on false perception reinforced by everyone talking about it.

I choose Bitcoin as the underlying asset because of its unbroken and consistent market dominance, the availability of its price data over time and the general consensus that Bitcoin tends to move the direction of the whole market.

I took the historical Bitcoin data from the Quandl and used R for the analysis.

Plot1 shows daily Bitcoin performance over time broken down by weekday. Interestingly, Sunday starts off in the middle of the pack performance-wise before really starting to drop around mid 2017.

Saturday and Friday on the other hand are the "leading days" in Terms of performance. Looking at the result I wondered if a simple "sell the Saturday dip" strategy would have resulted in a significantly better performance than just holding over the observed time frame.

Plot2 shows the result of said strategy (selling at the close of each Saturday and buying at the close of each Sunday vs. simply buying and holding from day 1). It seems that this strategy is not really advisable. The amount of BTC drops over time and was only able to recover in late 2017 when the "Sunday dips" were seemingly becoming an actual thing.

I can put the code in github if anyone is interested.
