Does anyone know WTF a "scam" actually is on reddit?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 11:11 PM PST

On practically every crypto subreddit I go to, the word "scam" gets tossed around regularly.

Speculating on a newly launched coin and having the price drop is not a fucking scam.

Having an accidental charge from Coinbase isn't a scam.

Having an outage at an exchange isn't a scam.

A coin forking and you personally liking one fork but not the other doesn't make one fork a scam. (BCH isn't a scam, and BTC certainly isn't either, despite it's flaws right now).

It's just ridiculous what the crybabies on these subreddits related to crypto will call a scam.

The term has basically come to mean "an investment where the optimal outcome wasn't immediately achieved, for any reason whatsoever"

Had to rant. Stop calling shit a scam that isn't.

The funniest thing about core trolls that I don’t understand...

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 10:30 PM PST

Some of us have owned bitcoin since way before the fork as early adopters and investors. We received our BCH and held it wisely to see how this pans out. Some have slowly flipped more and more into BCH but still hold plenty of BTC too as a short term hedge. I personally align with BCH as the original bitcoin. When the trolls start coming down on BCH I'm only left to believe that they're either paid to do so, noobs that bought in late, or bad investors that dumped immediately taking a quick dollar not realizing the potential of having on-chain scaling competition.

Being brigaded by bots? Here is what to do.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 12:51 PM PST

I see a lot of posts about brigading and bots. These things undoubtedly exist and have been active in bitcoin subreddits since just about the beginning.

Reddit, in general, has an issue with vote manipulation. It is no secret. It feels very frustrating because it feels like there is nothing you or the mods can do about it.

However, there is. If you feel like something is off in a thread the only people who can find out if you are right and the only people who can do something about it are the Reddit admins. You can contact them here:

    https://www.reddit.com/contact/

Provide them with the details and the treads you think are affected and they have the tools to detect vote manipulation & bots, clean it up, and suspend the accounts involved. It is not a perfect solution but it is at least being proactive about it, perhaps if enough manipulation is detected (please don't spam them though) the admins will keep an active eye on the problem.

    I'm confused

    Posted: 05 Mar 2018 12:18 AM PST

I've been wanting to ask some questions for a while, so here goes. I am not trying to spread any FUD, nor am I trying to shill anything, I'm just very curious and a little confused about this feud between the Bitcoin (BTC) and the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) communities.

It is clear that there are some issues with BTC when it comes to both transaction speed and fees. This is an issue that has also caused me, and most people that I know in this space, to abandon having any significant holding in BTC. As far as I have gathered, BCH has "fixed" this issue through a hard fork of BTC, which allowed for a higher block size (AFAIK, this should allow for more transactions on each block, which will lower both the fees and the speed of transactions). BTC is trying to solve this issue by implementing the lightning network – which, to me at least, seems like an odd solution (I may just not understand the proper purpose of it).

Many of the supporters of BCH believes that BCH is the true BTC, as per Satoshi's original whitepaper, as it easer to use when facilitating transactions. But this is where I get confused. It seems as if the BCH community is attempting to hijack BTC's status, and this is done through, what I perceive as, underhanded means and double speak, reminiscent of 1984. I think we can all agree that BTC has issues, but I don't see BCH as being BTC, as it factually is not. Regardless of it being in line with Satoshi's vision, it can't be BTC, simply because it really is not – with the same line of logic, Nano is BTC, Litecoin is BTC and Dogecoin is BTC, as they all have quick transaction speeds and low fees.

The r/BTC is not about BTC, but about BCH, which is extremely confusing. Why can the BCH community not have its own subreddit named r/BCH? Why can the BCH community not just focus on itself, rather than being a source of criticism against another currency, can they not both exist? Personally, I am hesitant to invest in BCH because of the community. It comes across as being an attempted hijacking of an existing community, through very aggressive and unnecessary means. If BCH is that much better, shouldn't adoption be happening naturally? I may be wrong, and I may just be ignorant of the politics of it all, but that is also why I am posting this – I want to understand why all of this is happening, and what the reasoning behind it all is.

TL;DR: Can BCH not coexist with BTC?

Buy something locally with Bitcoin Cash, post a photo & I will tip you to help pay the cost.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 07:31 AM PST

Title says it all. Buy something in person with Bitcoin Cash this week, post photo evidence here, and I will tip you in BCH to help pay the cost!

Will others join me in helping tip and spread adoption? Comment below if you will. No amount is too big or too small. Spend and replace! That way you can have your gains and use your crypto too.

Can't find a local seller? Try this: Use a map that lists businesses that already accept BTC and call, message or email ahead to ask if they will accept BCH.

Any good business owner should likely say "Yes, obviously, I already know how to do this and I'm not going to turn down money."

Here's a map of businesses that already know how to take BTC: https://coinmap.org/welcome

I'm going to be going out shopping with BCH this week too! I've already reached out to a few BTC-accepting businesses in my area and they all said they'd be happy to take my Bitcoin Cash as well.

Instead of hoping a major game adopts bitcoin cash, why don't we create an ORPG that uses bitcoin cash?
