Announcement: Sidebar Overhaul and plans for 2018.

    Posted: 22 Mar 2018 04:50 PM PDT

/r/Cryptocurrency has been a community for over 5 years now, and this subreddit and the cryptocurrency market as a whole have changed a great deal in that time.

You've probably noticed that there are a number of new changes happening in /r/CryptoCurrency lately including:

These are all part of new initiatives to update /r/CryptoCurrency and make it a better example of what cryptocurrency communities can be.

In that vein, we're continuing to make changes to this sub based on the question:

"How can we make /r/CryptoCurrency valuable to both crypto-enthusiasts, and welcoming to new mainstream users."

As part of this we decided it was time to overhaul our outdated sidebar.

Some of the previous sites in the sidebar were outdated, including ones that hadn't been active since 2013.

We've cleaned up the sidebar and added some new listings based on the following criteria:

    • They represent higher quality resources in the cryptocurrency community.

    • They can provide deep or unique value to crypto-enthusiasts.

    • They can provide education and on boarding to new mainstream users.

    • They can help to legitimize the mainstream professional use of cryptocurrencies and blockchains.

While changes to our sidebar will be seldom, we will review the list from time to time making sure that sites are up to date and reviewing which new sites should be added or removed.

If you want to share your feedback on valuable educational sites or tools that might be worth adding in the future you can join in the conversation at /r/CryptoCurrencyMeta.

    In 2018, you can expect:

    • A rule rewrite to provide more clarity for users.

    • Featured AMAs with crypto professionals.

    • New educational resources for mainstream users.

    • A FAQ megathread about cryptocurrency.

    • And, other surprise projects, contests and more!

    What else can we do?

The moderator team continues to roll out new ideas to help put our best foot forward here on /r/cryptocurrency as 2018 looks to be a breakout year for altcoins and tokens to break into the mainstream.

We want your ideas on what can be added to this subreddit, and the larger /r/cryptocurrency ecosystem to help make that happen. Please add your suggestions to /r/CryptoCurrencyMeta and help us make it a reality!

Want to join the Mod team?

We're also looking to recruit new team members to our moderator team to help with our 2018 goals. Consider filling in an application at /r/CryptoRecruiting if you are interested in helping us continue to build /r/CryptoCurrency

I'm going to owe more taxes than Amazon this year (they're paying zero), and all for money that never even hit my bank account! Thanks "taxable events"!

    Posted: 23 Mar 2018 12:56 AM PDT

Can someone explain to me how Amazon pays no taxes (yeah I get it, they "reinvest" their profits, can I not do the same thing and reinvest into myself? Food and toothpaste are investing into myself. Aren't corporations considered people? I'M A PEOPLE TOO) Yet I have to pay taxes every step of the way when I traded bitcoin to digibytes to bancor to shitcoin x to shitcoin y and then have it ALL CRASH in January which is another tax year aka I can't deduct my losses.

Do I just kill myself now? WHAT THE FUCK.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't think that DIGIBYTES would be the same asset classification as A HOUSE. I don't even know what the fuck a digibyte or a bancor is, except apparently they are dildos cause they fucked me.

Can someone clarify this? Seriously. Bitfinex shut down my account (I'm US) so I don't even have fucking access to those records anymore. What is the number for suicide hotline again?

What does everyone think about IOST?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2018 01:10 AM PDT

I'm curious to see what people think about IOST. For a top 75 token I haven't seen much discussion around it.

I suspect we'll start hearing a bit more about it as the roadmap starts being executed. It's way longer term than most projects out there.

Seems to have similar goals to IOTA, at a far lower marketcap. Could be a bit more of a profit potential?

CEO of Electroneum threaten coder who earlier saved the blockchain to outsource development to Ukraine

    Posted: 22 Mar 2018 02:39 PM PDT

    This is just amazing.

u/KnifeOfPi2 literally saved Electroneum from collapsing when it had errors in the code on block 202612 because Electroneum copied a very early code of Monero that had this issue. https://cnsteem.com/cryptocurrency/@danile666/electroneum-hackerone-ethical-disclosure-and-unethical-practices-by-etn-team

So long story short, Electroneum doesnt have any developers to work on their code so they cried out for help and KnifeOfPi2 saved them.

So now the CEO of Electroneum, have sent KnifeOfPi2 a message, threatening to undercut him by outsourcing the coding to a third party company in Ukraine, because the team behind Electroneum thought $450 was too much money to pay KnifeOfPi2 to literally save their project.

    https://np.reddit.com/r/Electroneum/comments/86eesg/i_hate_to_have_to_post_this_but_theres_a_good/

It is also worth to mention that Electroneum had huge issues with their blockchain a month back and they mined empty blocks for a couple of days, and the team had to cry out for help from outsiders then as well.

Denaro ICO have just scammed investors and ran away with $8.7 million

    Posted: 22 Mar 2018 03:44 PM PDT

So thankfully I wasn't involved in this ICO but I did check out their telegram often.

They haven't messaged on their telegram for ages, no email responses, denaro tokens were distributed but it's worthless now.

Any other social media platform communication has been cut.

More strong evidence is that their employees are fake too.

Jeremy Boker's pic is from pexels https://www.pexels.com/photo/cv-elegant-male-portrait-267359/

Amy Archer's pic is also copied from another site https://www.mstudio.es/fotografo/fotografo-de-retrato-corporativo#

Everyone please be careful of ICOs. There are plenty good ones but DYOR. I avoided this ICO straightaway when I saw the frontpage literred with discounts and their whitepaper was horribly written.

EDIT: From their official bounty manager
Dear participants! As you all know, Denaro team are not answering questions and they are basically not around. When we were agreeing with them, they showed us their LinkedIn profiles and they were approved by Newswire verification which is a worldwide PR service. That is why we didn't have any suspects and started the bounty program. The team went missing 1 week before the end of the ICO and we tried to contact them every way possible. Even though they distributed the tokens, since they didn't have the product, tokens lost a lot of value. We are trying to find the these scammers, any help would be appreciated.

My first time asking if a merchant accepts monero...

    Posted: 22 Mar 2018 07:23 AM PDT

Last night I went to a house show with live bands, and there was an $8 cover charge to help the touring bands. I jokingly asked at the door if they accepted Monero, which the guy replied, "Venmo?" And I proceeded to explain that I was referring to cryptocurrency. "Like bitcoin?". For the remainder of the night, I helped the guy set up a monero wallet on his phone, and I gave him $100 in Monero to split with the other bands and showed him how to shapeshift XMR into BTC. I even helped him set up his first coinbase account and explained how he could withdraw to his bank account. He was really interested in learning more and understanding how it all works. He even keeps a list of all the different methods of payment that people choose to pay with and added crypto to the list! Now in the future, if someone were to want to pay in crypto, I think he would be comfortable enough to understand how it works. I just wanted to share some positive news in regard to how we can help with adoption. Sometimes I forget that we are much smaller than we think.

edit Please crypto fam, give my man Mattshu0 some karma love so his posts dont get deleted again.
