Q: When will the Lightning Network be rolled out? A: The rollout has already begun. This is an iterative distributed learning process; it's unlikely there'll be a single point in time at which we say LN is "deployed" because it will grow organically. Software is never finished.

    Lightning Strikes Harold

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 01:06 PM PST

It's instant and it's almost free. Understand that lightning is here.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 10:07 AM PST

Stop waiting for Bitcoin corporation to announce the release of the lightning network. Bitcoin is decentralized! Get it? A good analogy is to consider the lightning network a new born baby. It's here, it's healthy and if you're asking "can it walk yet" you're behind on your research and missing the point. I'm making the announcement right now. Lightning Network is officially here. We are Bitcoin.

https://lightning.network "Instant Payments. Lightning-fast blockchain payments without worrying about block confirmation times. Security is enforced by blockchain smart-contracts without creating a on-blockchain transaction for individual payments. Payment speed measured in milliseconds to seconds.

Scalability. Capable of millions to billions of transactions per second across the network. Capacity blows away legacy payment rails by many orders of magnitude. Attaching payment per action/click is now possible without custodians.

Low Cost. By transacting and settling off-blockchain, the Lightning Network allows for exceptionally low fees, which allows for emerging use cases such as instant micropayments.

Cross Blockchains. Cross-chain atomic swaps can occur off-chain instantly with heterogeneous blockchain consensus rules. So long as the chains can support the same cryptographic hash function, it is possible to make transactions across blockchains without trust in 3rd party custodians."

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 08:38 AM PST

Just noticed it while I was responding to a comment. Fees are down to 50 satoshis per byte and we're maintaining a drop over three days (most likely because of the new year). The last time we were this low was December 11th. Let's try to keep it going, guys!
