CasperLabs confirms Vlad Zamfir as lead architect

    https://www.theblockcrypto.com/tiny/casper-labs-confirms-vlad-zamfir-as-lead-architect/

Please read the (short) article. This was previously reported by the block last month but slightly contested by Vlad, now it appears to be finalised.

Can't find a supporting statement from Vlad or CasperLabs. It's disappointing to hear him say "not sure if the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchain communities are going to be able to upgrade their protocols" from him, but he is entitled to his opinions. Would be great to get some additional background on why. Looking forward to thoughtful discussion on this.

HN hates blockchain. Can we do something about it?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 11:10 AM PST

for those who don't know Hacker News is *the* tech news forum. Every other day there is a "how much I hate blockchain and it's useless" article.

This is in weird contrast of what the "leaders" of Silicon Valley think. Being more specific Y Combinator is pro-blockchain and so are many of the big VC funds and community leaders.

Can we give some attention there and participate because it's the developers that need to start building and they need to be convinced of the benefits.

Curious on what exactly would cause Ethereum to not be able to upgrade. From my understanding 2.0 was supposed to be a completely new protocol from 1.0?

    Rete -An Ethereum Based Community

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 11:18 AM PST

    Hey Everyone 👋,

I have been obsessing about an idea I have had to create an ethereum based protocol for coordinating a global community based on democratic governance that I would like to run pass the most critical filter I know(Reddit). The bullet points are as listed below, feel free to give honest feedback and poke holes:

    1. The protocol is a specialized ethereum pool in which there is no payout. In lieu of payouts all registered miners receive single voting power per issue public. The resulting ethereum from mining is sent to an unowned custodial account with specific rules of allocation based on the outcome of these "proof of stake" vote.

    2. The platform itself is built on the ethereum network. So long as miners are deemed valid based on hardware,ip, and biometric data an anonymous user entity is created on the network allowed the same voting rights as everyone else. Mining can be throttled based on user means, but there will always be a minimum support hashrate required. More hash does not equal more votes.

    3. The platform allows users to request funds to address a public issue. Should the issue gain enough votes to proceed an automatic process will allocate funds to discretionary accounts. A subcommittee will be randomly determined to verify the issued money is being utilized for it's intended purposes and will ultimately issue verdicts via a "reputation" point model.

There is obviously much more to it, but the bottom line is that I believe that cryptos are more than just computers and trading. They can create what could be the means to truly democratic decision making. If u know of a project like this please let me know, I would love to contribute : no use in reinventing the wheel

    Cheers!
