‪I think I finally understand why Charlie Lee selling his Litecoin is a good thing‬

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 03:40 AM PST

Trying to sift through the verbal warfare that is the Bitcoin / Bcash world right now, it's very challenging to know who to believe, especially if you're not a cryptographer/coder/cypherpunk/economist/product developer/currency trader all rolled in to one.

On one hand, it is argued that Core / Blockstream have a vested financial interest in keeping blocks small because they will make their millions from sidechains and Lightning.

On the other hand, it is argued that Ver and Wu (and even Coinbase) want bigger blocks and BCH to succeed because they own a boatload of it and Bitmain mines most of it and will make out like kings if it becomes the more popular coin.

There are genuine arguments on each side of the debate, and accusations of personal interest hinder anyone new to the argument from being able to understand what's happening.

Heck, I even saw Adam Back bragging about trading bitcoin the other day on twitter. I mean, it felt wrong that he was celebrating making winning trades while people in Africa are ditching his beloved Bitcoin because they can't afford to transfer it anymore.

The reality is, I can't really believe Ver because he stands to grow his wealth if BCH takes off. And I can't really trust Blockstream because they stand to gain if sidechains and L2 take off.

As long as those involved clearly have a financial stake in one of the outcomes, it's impossible to take their arguments about how to move forward with much weight.

Causing a coin to increase in price on the exchanges is not the same thing as making a global decentralised digital currency that anyone can use.

And now Charlie Lee no longer has any pressure to worry about doing what it takes to make the price of Litecoin go up. He can focus on growing a currency.

When I bought Litecoin, I admit I wanted it to go up in price.

And even though it has, that's not the reason I love it. I love it because IT IS ACTUALLY USABLE AS A CURRENCY.

I am with Lee. I had my concerns. But I'm more convinced than ever that it was a wise choice.

Now, when Lee makes an argument about a change he thinks Litecoin needs, I won't be wondering if he's making this change to line his own pockets.

I don't need Litecoin to GO TO THE MOON. I want to see a world where the unbanked, the poor, those stuck in Venezuela and other places with rampant inflation... can all participate in a global economy with a decentralised and non-inflationary currency that serves them well.

If Litecoin goes to $1000, $100, or $1, developing Litecoin rather than increasing the trading price of Litecoin should be Charlie's goal, and owning a tonne of Litecoin, as counterintuitive as it seems, would put pressure on Lee to pay more attention to the LTC trading price.

Currencies are not shares. Even though we all want to get rich from them, that is NOT the point of them. They need to be used. They need to be usable. They need to be stable. They need to be reliable. I know we've got a fair way to go and this story is far from finished, but I think this was a good step forwards by Lee.

    Merry Christmas.

I have learned a valuable lesson these past few days

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 05:11 AM PST

ALWAYS have extra fiat in your trading account. I bought at 25 earlier this year and literally forgot about it. I got more at 316, but went in with all the extra money in my trading account. I've been holding steadfast ever since, ignoring the runs up to 380-400. But now that it hs been dropping into the 200's, I could have picked up a shit ton more coins had I not invested all my money.

So word of advice- always have some available money for picking up a few coins on the dips! I could have doubled my coins had I had money in there.

    Ever notice?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2017 06:59 PM PST

Ever notice that everyone here talks about what they'll do when they can cash out high? Isn't the end goal to not need to cash out? For this to replace fiat?

It's kinda scary hearing everyone treat this like a stock... makes me wonder...

Edit: downvote me if you want, but more posts than not talk about what they'll do when they can cash out. I am in it for the long haul, but with most people treating this as a get rich quick scheme, it can be treated as a pyramid scheme. Getting in just to cash out.. I wish everyone believed in litecoins future.

People have to see it for themselves to believe it. Key word: Experience

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 06:10 AM PST

This has been addressed in the past in different ways but I'd like to touch on a few things from my own experience and would like to apply it to the choices people are making with crypto.

Note: This seems like obvious information but this should be treated as constructive criticism and advice to investors and their decisions.

The people who bought in early or bought just before the ATH such as myself have seen the vast jump in price of LTC in the past weeks. I believe this is why some of us more than others are willing to hold on (hodl) stronger than others who have invested quite late and haven't seen a dramatic increase in price or right now losing money from buying an ATH from FOMO. Late investors haven't witnessed through EXPERIENCE what LTC or other cryptos are capable of and are more likely to give up and panic sell. Simply asking Reddit wether you should buy or not is not a smart way to invest. Read the charts and do your own research or you'll be investing in something you don't know about which could lead to your own demise.

This leads to my next topic "regret". I myself was watching the market 24/7, LTC prices were stagnant but I was still profiting (had initially bought Litecoin at $70 and sold at $100). I decided to sell because I had not seen any substantial growth within the time period of constantly watching the market. A few days later LTC started to rapidly grow and I decided to buy back in at $140 and now the prices have nearly doubled. Through EXPERIENCE I witnessed the consequences of selling too early and CONSTANTLY watching the market for gains. Don't expect to get rich easily from crypto but also don't forget that it's still growing and you'll regret selling too early if you don't push through the tough times.

So my word of advice to investors out there is just because you haven't EXPERIENCED any substantial growth or just want to be part of the "hype" do your research beforehand and make smart decisions otherwise do not post about it in the forums. You're only bringing discouragement to the ones who are pushing through.

What's your moon that you're shooting for?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 08:06 AM PST

For me, I have a very small time invested in LTC and crypto as is, but my moon is to get a motorcycle. Just wondering what everyone else is hoping to get from all of the HODLing that everyone is doing.

Right now, currently working overtime as is at work for the extra money for things around the house.
