Reddit's consensus price forecast for BTC: $35,000 in 12 months.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 09:29 AM PST

Over the past few days, we have been crowdsourcing price estimates from cryptoasset hedge fund managers, independent investors, and enthusiasts. The following price estimates are the summation of that work and include estimates from 94 market participants (all active investors.)

    Our Key Findings:

    • 94 voluntary respondents were recruited from various Reddit and Medium communities.

    • Consensus was bullish for both BTC and ETH in the near and long term, with median price targets increasing over each consecutive period.

    • Median 12-month price target for BTC = $35,000 (a 2.3x increase from price at publication)

    • Notably, this priced consensus survey was more bullish than the recently collected general population estimates.

Price charts and additional findings can be found here: https://medium.com/@ajwatson/consensus-price-forecasts-for-btc-and-eth-dec-2017-4cd5c159dd8d

Any reason for the significantly cheaper price on finex comparing to bitstamp?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 12:49 AM PST

I see that it has been going on for a few days. Why isn't it being arbitragued away?

Buy cheap on exhange A, sell on exchange B?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 05:40 AM PST

As we know, BTC can differ $1000's between different exchanges. What am I missing, if I buy a BTC for $11500 on Bitfinex and sell for $13500 on GDAX?

    Repeat.

Would it work? What am I missing? Seems like endless free money.

Thanks for correcting me if I'm wrong.

Data shows that Bitcoin is still #1

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 08:01 AM PST

I am sorry for being a little salty. I don't see what these absent minded people are writing that Bitcoin is not strong anymore and other bull*. It is still the strongest cryptocurrency out there: Here are the facts, go check them out https://coinmarketcap.com/

This shit coin pump get rich quick mentality can really wash you out of the markets. You only hear about the "success millionare stories" not about those who actually killed themselves for being wreckless.

For being a smart investor you have to check the facts and educate yourself constantly. And remember, for every winner there have to be losers.

Sure it's cool to make a few bucks...

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 07:36 AM PST

But while we are making what is basically pocket money Bitcoin now makes the filthy rich even richier, while thousands just lost half of everything they had with this crash.

I'm pretty sure that is the opposite of what Bitcoin was supposed to do in the first place.

I know I'm stating the obvious here. But what is the point of staying in this game when whales decide when they drives the price up and down and are guaranteed to make a profit while we smaller fishes are just doomed to follow theirs moves, hoping to not get eaten while doing that.

    No, I'm not salty.

Scam warning for HitBTC: Cannot withdraw tokens, no support available at all

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 12:12 AM PST

I have a token withdrawal that I requested almost a week ago that doesn't move. Trying to request again behaves as if there are no tokens there at all yet they are displayed as available (it says 'insufficient funds' when trying to trade or request withdrawal again).

Nobody reads or responds to the tickets at all.

Another exchange that will just screw users out of their coins and there is no recourse or any way to contact anyone.

    Beware

A comprehensive theory of Technical Analysis

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 05:44 AM PST

I had posted this in another thread but was wondering what the broader community thinks. I tried to put together what I thought/believed about this often-misunderstood style of analysis:

Technical analysis is based off of charts and price action.

Emotions are embodied in price action. As such the study of price action is important to the identification of notable emotional swings.

That is, emotional swings are also very important to the identification of notable price action developments.

It's been long known that in financial markets, price action tends to precede the underlying emotional developments that lead to further price swings (+ 2nd movements such as volatility/kurtosis). As such , IMHO, it's almost imperative to understand developments in price action via the charts.

In this regard the technical analysis of charts and price action is actually the embodiment of the collective mentality of the market's emotions.

Anyway - this was just my philosophical view. For more research, I suggest Edwards/Magee as a good starting point: https://www.amazon.com/Technical-Analysis-Trends-Robert-Edwards/dp/0814408648

The section on Point & Figure charts is a great starting point for "thinking outside the box". I'm trying to do some more on this subject if anyone wants to start a book club of sorts.

Best SEPA Bank Account for Non Residents of Europe

    Posted: 23 Dec 2017 11:50 PM PST

Given the delays in depositing/withdrawing between Coinbase and a U.S. bank account, and the many outside the select markets who don't have access to Coinbase altogether, maybe some of you are considering opening a European bank account with SEPA transfers?

That way it'd be possible to do low-cost, fiat transactions on Gemini through SEPA, for example. Has anybody gone this route and how was their experience like?

Which banks in the SEPA supported region allow non EU residents to open an account? Preferably online but don't rule out banks who require a personal visit either; I'm sure the savings would quickly add up considering the costs and delays of wire transfers.

January 3 is the timestamp in the BTC genesis block. Do you have anything special planned?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2017 11:16 AM PST

The timestamp in the genesis block for the Bitcoin blockchain has a date of January 3. Are you going to do anything to celebrate Bitcoin's birthday.

Coinigy Sell Stop Limit Order not triggering

    Posted: 23 Dec 2017 04:13 PM PST

    Let me explain.

I put an order in to buy (limit) at 13,149.03 Euro. I put a Sell Stop Limit Order at 13,149.02. Theory being the order is triggered once my Limit Order has actually been triggered.

The price right now, dipped to 12,854 (so way past the trigger point) and I still have Coinigy displaying the order as Stopped. When I log onto gdax, there are no active orders.

    What gives?

Other than BTC / Fiat, what are some good trading pairs and why?

Does it really matter what alt-coin you trade BTC with? Or are there certain advantages over some? Thanks

    Am I at a disadvantage?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2017 03:54 PM PST

European here, just curious about a post I read today, because this guy wasn't sure about fiat exchange course (he was european buying in usd)

If I'm buying BTC on Coinbase/Gdax in EUR via creditcart, am I at a disadvantage?

I registered on bitstamp too but this could take a while. Coinbase was literally my only way to get a few coins a least when they were "cheap".

Have you guys any recommendations where I should buy/trade BTC, LTC, ETH if I'm european? Es exchange I use binance.

    Thanks for your advice!

What’s the use of technical analysis?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2017 01:34 PM PST

If crypto market is such an emotional market to trade in, what use is technical analysis? I mean TA is based upon certain mathematical truths right? And emotions are not :-) Are you using TA? And if so, which ones and why?

    [Bittrex] Pump & dump question

    Posted: 23 Dec 2017 11:38 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

You probably know that bittrex changed their policy, end of november. But I have a question regarding this one below : "A general statement about market manipulation tactics: Bittrex actively discourages any type of market manipulation, including pump groups. Consistent with our terms of service, we will suspend and close any accounts engaging in this type of activity and notify the appropriate authorities."

How does Bittrex consider that you're part of a pump and dump ? I don't wanna see my account blocked because I bought something that is in a pump...

    Thanks for your help !

    Margin trading pairs

    Posted: 23 Dec 2017 01:04 PM PST

Why would people trade BTC/ETH or CRYPTO/CRYPTO on margin trading instead of USD/BTC or USD/ETH ? In my opinion, this is more complex since you need to keep track of market movements of the 2 cryptos.

What do you personally prefer ?
