Full node, Raspberry pi 2 or 3?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 12:13 PM PST

I feel like the clear answer is Raspberry pi 3 but I'm not finding any posts on it. Am I missing something?

Or is everything currently built to run on a Raspberry pi 2?

If both are capable I see that Rp2 has lower power draw but does Rp3 have something that it needs or performs better as a full node?

    Darknet markets and Ether?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 05:30 PM PST

I literally don't have enough to spend on anything, even if I wanted to, but do any dark net markets/research chemical stores use ETH? Just curious.

    The classic problem with Mist

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 10:32 AM PST

Just two days ago I deleted my entire copy of the chain because I was 400,000 blocks behind and never catching up.

So after that, I caught up in what I think is "light mode" within 16 hours. Since then, I left Mist open so it doesn't fall behind again.

I wake up this morning and it's 44 blocks behind. I restart Mist, and now it's 200 blocks behind, downloading 1 block every 2 minutes. I honestly feel like I can't win.

What do I do? Download the entire blockchain every 3 days? I'm going to lose my friggin mind!

    ETH transaction taking all day

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 06:31 PM PST

I started an ETH transaction from GDAX to Binance about 6 hours ago. In the past, all of my ETH transactions have taken ~20 min to be confirmed. Is this long pending transaction normal? I sent about 1 token if that matters.

ELI5 - Is the raiden network decentralized or is there a risk from centralization by hubs?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 03:00 AM PST

Bitcoin's lightning network seems to have a chance for decentralization

However, would hubs also form for the raiden, or does it work in a slightly different way?

Programmatically sweeping funds from an HD wallet?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 08:22 AM PST

I'm able to generate arbitrary Ethereum addresses using a couple Ruby gems like so: https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/a/34520/26695

The very simple code from the link above is here:

    require 'bitcoin' require 'eth' NODE_INDEX = 0 # An index corresponds to a unique Ethereum address. MNEMONIC = '...' # Generate this using `Bitcoin::Trezor::Mnemonic.generate`. master = MoneyTree::Master.new(seed_hex: Bitcoin::Trezor::Mnemonic.to_seed(MNEMONIC)) node = master.node_for_path("m/44'/60'/0'/0/#{NODE_INDEX}") key = Eth::Key.new(priv: node.private_key.to_hex) puts key.to_address

Now I'm able to receive funds at these addresses but I'm looking for a way to consolidate them into one address.

Is such a thing possible without having to broadcast a bunch of transactions to the blockchain?

Ultimately what I'm trying to do is collect payments in an online store and associate one address with one transaction. But periodically I want to consolidate and move the money into fiat form.

Is it possible to edit your dApp after it is deployed into the ethereum network?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 12:12 AM PST

Noob here. I'm a software developer just starting to read about the application side of ethereum. One question I'm having difficulty answering is whether you can update a deployed app after it is out in the network. Is this possible?

The Ethereum Foundation is doing a great job under the leadership of Ming Chan! Roadmaps, Transparency, development, and community support are at all time highs!

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 07:34 PM PST

Some questions for Ming whos doing a great job! (I can't find the answers to these on the website)

    • Who are the members? (Are there more than 3?)
    • Who is leading the organization?
    • What's the plan for coping with the sudden growth and popularity?
    • Is the Foundation limited to the Core Devs?
    • Who is running the day to day activities within the organization and marketing?
    • What is the EF doing to promote their mission?
    • How much funds are available?
    • How are the remaining funds going to be deployed?
    • Which projects and studies are running at the moment?
    • Which are concluded and what did they accomplish?
    • How are the funds being used exactly?
    • Which local structures does the EF support to grow a decentralized ecosystem?
    • How are the local structures incentivized to work on protocols and tools?
    • Why is the Ethereum Wallet still not usable for average people at all?

    What wallet odes everyone use?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 10:27 AM PST

I am pretty marginal with computers and don't want to risk losing all of my ether so I was curious what wallet you could recommend. I was going to use a ledger nano s but now they are crazy inflated price wise because bitcoin got so popular I guess. I am thinking of using exodus wallet. Is that a good idea or is it unsafe or something. I only have like .6 ether but I don't want to just leave it sitting in coinbase.

EDIT: Also my title I meant to type does not odes

ELI5 What are these "tokens" I have in MyEtherWallet?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 07:36 AM PST

I hooked my Trezor up to MyEtherWallet and transfered some ETH form CoinBase to my wallet. I see I've got a token balance and I can load them. What are tokens? Where happens when I hit load? Where does these tokens go? Do I own them? If I do, what are the good ones to own?

Ethereum Wallet 0.5ETH transaction fee on a 0.4 ETH transaction... ?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 11:49 AM PST

My Ethereum wallet is suggesting me to pay a 0.5 eth transaction fee when sending some ETH to another address. I am trying to send 0.4 eth. So thats several hundreds of dollars for a transaction of several hundreds of dollars.

So what is happening when a wallet syncs?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:52 AM PST

I am pretty new two the whole scene and I am curious about something. On a slightly technical level, what is involved with syncing the ethereum nodes (like in the mist wallet)? I thought it would be a simple long download and a huge sink on disk space, but currently the app is using ~35% cpu, 5GB of ram, 50+MB/s disk usage (50%) but only 0.5 Mbps network at most. What is happening beyond a download of the block chain?

    Hallo All!

What is the easiest way to check the contents of a wallet for a date in the past?

I'm trying to pre-do my taxes but keeping track of my tokens etc is a bit hard...

I'm trying to get a quick overview for address x on date y.

    Online smart contract deployment service?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:44 PM PST

I am unable to sync my local ethereum node via geth/ethereum wallet and have given up on the matter.

Is there any way to deploy contracts without having a node synced? Particularly on the Ropsten test network.

Transfer .50 Ethereum from Gdax to Binance is taking almost 2 hours now

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 01:15 PM PST

I've done this many times before.

Gdax > ETH > Withdrawal > Enter Binance deposit code > Wait > Done

I'm positive I did it correctly. There was a brief issue with me clicking too fast, so it did send 2 transactions through by accident (I'm fine with this and there are two different transaction IDs) but aside from that, everything was done properly.

Now, to be clear, it's not that the transaction is taking this long to verify, it's that it's not even showing up in the Binance history page. This happened earlier but only took like an hour. Again, this is Ethereum, so it should be pretty quickly. Going on 2 hours? I'm starting to get concerned....not a lot of money but I had to make some quick trades and now that potential earning is in jeopardy.
