NAS + Mining Rig. Is it possible? Posted: 22 Nov 2017 06:26 AM PST I'm basically thinking on building a NAS system and while it's just going to be sitting there it could also be mining at a small scale. I'm theorising on virtualizing UnRaid and Linux for mining Lets assume this hardware: Node 304 (So ITX form factor) Quad core low power CPU (2 core for each VM) Single GPU (R570 seems fine) Aprox 300W on full load according to PCPartPicker [link] [comments]
NVIDIA cards randomly crashing Posted: 22 Nov 2017 04:29 AM PST Ryzen 3 CPU, MSI 1050 ti (x2), EVGA 1060, 750W PSU, 8GB RAM I use NVIDIA inspector to undervolt the cards to 85%, and they run around 59 degrees. While they are busy mining away for hours, the temperature never goes higher. I will return to my computer hours later, and find the machine has restarted or the mining program has quit. When I try to restart the program, only 2 of the cards will work even though all three are showing as working in device manager. A restart will enable all 3 to work again, but the forced restarts and crashing programs are beginning to irk me. One of the 1050s is on a PCI riser. Could the riser be bad? Is there an NVIDIA crash log file somewhere I can look at to see error codes? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Is ASRock H81 PRO still the best MB? Posted: 22 Nov 2017 07:50 AM PST This has probably been answered a handful of times but I was wondering if someone could point in the direction of what motherbord, processor, powersupply I should get for my 5 new rx 580's. I may end up adding another 5 cards if possible, if not I will build a second rig with 5 more 1070's. There seem to be a handful of MB's and Powersupplys to choose from so I'd like to get what most people have had success with. Thanks everyone! Happy mining. [link] [comments]
mining rig expansion questions Posted: 22 Nov 2017 06:31 AM PST So, I've decided to get back into mining again, i got out 2 years ago when it was not very profitable anymore but have made enough from the coins i mined back then and held to get back into things. Earlier this month i bought 16 vega 56's and am currently mining ETN with those 2 rigs that i put together, so much building. I'm now looking to build 2 more 8 card rigs, but the availablity of Vega cards at anywhere near a decent price point is crazy, i bought all of mine for about 415 avg. and i don't want to spend more than 450-500 a card on vega 56's.
Side note, for those of you that operate a larger farm, at what point did you move to a commercial space? when did that become viable etc? when did it become a full time job rather than a part time job? I know from previous mining endevours, i spent i think on average about 6 hours a week tinkering/fixing/troubleshooting etc with 4 rigs of 280x's. Thank you for taking the time to read all this and provide insight, much appreciated [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Nov 2017 12:55 AM PST My preference coins is always ethereum. But now i have enough coins that can last my eletricity cost for 5 month i decide to change to other coins. How many 1080tis on 1000watt Psu? Posted: 22 Nov 2017 03:44 AM PST The sidebar link states only 3. I'm assuming that's at full power. If I run then at 75% power, will I be able to run 4? [link] [comments]

Question about powering 6xVegas Posted: 22 Nov 2017 02:32 AM PST Hey reddit , meet my psu https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-P2-1600-X1 All of my parts will be here tomorrow and i am wondering how to power my gpu's since i read never to power from the sata cables. This is the slots of my psu https://images.evga.com/products/gallery/220-P2-1600-X1_XL_5.jpg I can see 5 6pin slots (SATA1/2/3,PERIF,PERIF/SATA). I can connect 4 riser cables directly to the sata slots but then there is only 1 slot for my 2 cards and the ssd. Please help reddit , thanks EDIT: Someone told me i can power my gpu risers from the gpu slots , so all i have to do is buy 8pin to 6 pin cables, is that accurate? [link] [comments]
It seems to me GPU mining is extremly unknown/uncommon still. Posted: 22 Nov 2017 12:30 AM PST I work in IT and when I talk about my setups, my rigs etc even IT people don't really have a clue. This group on reddit "only" have 7200 subscribers, which is quite few really on reddit :) It could be a very interesting thing to be part of for the coming years. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Nov 2017 08:12 PM PST I'm going to put my first mining to on the equihash algo. I understand that the 1080 ti is the best candidate for this algorithm. I also understand that EVGA is excellent when it comes to standing behind their product. So I went onto their website, and GOD DAMN!!! 18 models of the gtx 1080 ti. Of course i'm not going to get those pure water cooled version and the kingpin. But for the rest of the line up, it's still a huge selection to choose from.
Thanks. card 1: https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=11G-P4-6694-KR card 2: https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=11G-P4-6393-KR [link] [comments]

So ... if you had $X to start mining with what direction do you go ? Posted: 21 Nov 2017 04:10 PM PST No starting with ASIC - although there are a couple ASIC machines I plan on investing into with profits ... Let's say you have $1500 to play with in January from saving your crypto up. What route do you go ? What about $2500 .. Twoo seperate plans if you have the time. From what I've read you are looking around $400 - $500 for the board, the CPU, memory, drive, PSU .. and you could get either a 8 PCIe slot board or 16 slot board. I lean toward the 16 slot board but the problem is windows only supports 8 GPU Units. I read somewhere there was a patch allowiing more but I'm guessing it will be buggy for quite some time. There is of course also the likely hood of going Linux - so I'm not sure. Linux I would also feel better about Security but Windows drivers etc seem to be more supported. Also I'm leaning towards AMD units because you can just flash the units once you find the right settings, whereas NVidia you have to continously adjust with AfterBurner or what have you. You also have to label the units 1-8 or 1-16 for example with a piece of tape so you don't get them mixed up .. If AMD I am leaning toward 480 or 580 cards. I would essentially use profits to continously build up my equipment. Not neccesarily buying new equipment every 2-3 months (which would be once card most likely) but rather holding on to crypto until I fel it has reached a solid value to pull out, and hopefully get 20-50% more equipment by holding for 3-6 months .. Weird Issue with MSI RX580 cards (blue screen) Posted: 21 Nov 2017 09:24 PM PST I'm having a weird issue and I'm not sure exactly what is wrong with my setup. My rig has 6 x MSI RX580 Gaming X cards with Samsung memory. I used PolarisEditor with the one-click option to optimize the straps and flashed all the cards. They were running fine for a couple of days then when I checked my rig status on the pool, it was saying that it's offline. So, I plug my HDMI monitor into my 1st GPU card to see what was going on and the screen was just blue with no text. There was no BSOD on the screen, just a shade of blue. I had to manually shut off the rig and power it back on to reboot it. I'm using Claymore 10.1 with the AMD blockchain beta drivers (August release). The average temp of the cards are 59c. This is my batch file I'm using to mine: setx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 0 setx GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100 setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1 setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 setx GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool us-east.ethash-hub.miningpoolhub.com:20535 -ewal xxxx -eworker xxxx -esm 2 -epsw x -allpools 1 -asm 1 -dcri 33 -tstop 85 -tt 65 -fanmin 60 -fanmax 100 -dpool stratum+tcp://dcr.suprnova.cc:3252 -dwal xxx -cclock 1200 -mvddc 850 -cvddc 850 Currently, I uninstalled the AMD blockchain drivers and installed the latest AMD Crimson drivers (11/15/17). My hashrate has dropped significantly from 29.x to now 24.x running this new release but it seems to be running ok so far. Has anyone had this issue before? [link] [comments]

What GPUs would you buy if there is no VEGA 56 or 64 Posted: 21 Nov 2017 02:25 PM PST I already have a rig with 12 VEGA 56 and i'd like to build a new one. Which GPUs would you use and why? I was thinking about the GTX1070 but i'd like to try out something cheaper. How about the RX580? [link] [comments]
GTX 1080 to RX Vega 56-64 or Vega + 1080 mining? Help me to decide Posted: 21 Nov 2017 10:16 AM PST Hey guys. I need some help for deciding what to do. I have a GTX 1080 and R5 1600 i'm mining with those two. I'm using Nicehash Miner and making about $3 dollars minimum a day. I saw some opportunity which i can swap my 1080 with V56 or V64. Another choice is not to swap and buy a V56-64 as a second GPU and mine with 1080 + Vega. As far as i know V56 is better for mining since V64 got more TDP and unnecesseary price difference, also V56 can be flashed to 64 as far as i know. What do you guys think? Keep 1080 and buy a Vega or swap 1080 with Vega? I doubt swapping would make a big profit difference. I've found a V64 to swap, as far as i know many Vega 64 can reach near 1.5~1.8 Cryptonight hash rates right? Should i take the V64? Will i have more profit over 1080 with V64? [link] [comments]
Worker on pool without address [VTC] Posted: 21 Nov 2017 01:36 PM PST I've been mining for the better part of a week, switching between different pools but without success. I have a modest 65 Mh/s rig. This is the pool I am currently mining from: http://94.130.33.224:9171/static/. My worker shows up, but is without an address, how is that even possible? It's the same on every pool I join. Has anybody seen anything like it before? [link] [comments]
Hellå, need help to turn a tower into a 3 card miner ! Posted: 21 Nov 2017 01:27 PM PST I got free electricity and I had a pc tower just laying at home so I decided to get some cards and start mining to contribute to the network and get some altcoins for free. I bought 2 GPUs, a r9 280x ($120) and a 290 ($200). 2 PSU-gold 600w ($25), 3 usb 008s risers ($35), and a wireless receiver ($10). A total of $400 usd. I'll buy some fans and perhaps another GPU. A total of $600 usd investment, that is "predicted" to bring in $175 a month and give a ROI in 4 months. I do have some constraints though: I will only do this for 12 months. If I'm not able to run it quiet in a closet I'll probably only mine when I'm not at home halving profits and doubling ROI time. As long as I get back some money and can resell in a year I'm good profit wise. What's more important is a fun setup and a problem free accumulation of a good amount of random shit-to-gold-coins so that I don't have to buy them. I've tried using the r9 290 to mine on nicehash and get on average 0.0002 btc, ranging from $1.3 to $2.2 on cryptonight, daggerhashimoto, libry and equihash. Earlier this day I managed to fry some usb ports and my ethernet connector, lol. So I need help, as I clearly don't know what I'm doing. I'm very short on time, I've been reading and asking around so far. Now I just really need a review of what I've done and what I can expect and most importantly what I should do from now on. I'll post my questions a individual threads if that is fine. I'd appreciate truly any help. Cheers! [link] [comments]
Gigabyte GA-970-Gaming only works with 3 GPU's, need advice. Posted: 21 Nov 2017 01:16 PM PST Hello comrades! Cannot seem to get all 4 GPU's (GTX 1060) on Windows 10 x64 with Gigabyte GA-970-Gaming board (There is 1GB of physical RAM, 16GB virtual memory). 3 work fine, as I plug in 4th, either it does not boot or Windows Device Manager shows Device Disabled for 4th GPU. Tried everything what could find online - enabling IOMMU, SVM in BIOS, changing PCIe risers. Does anybody have a similar problem and hopefully - a solution? Regards and happy and long mining! Any thoughts on EthOS/GPUShack and the bundles they sell? Posted: 21 Nov 2017 12:42 PM PST I am thinking of getting the 8-GPU bundle from them for about $309. Does anyone have any bad experience from them? Is using EthOS for mining pretty common? I am just starting out mining. [link] [comments]
Does anyone actually buy mining cards? Posted: 21 Nov 2017 11:29 AM PST Like the title says. They're only about $20-40 cheaper and I doubt the performance difference will justify the far far worse resale value. [link] [comments] |
