Best Way to Sell a Rig?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 05:46 AM PST

    Here's my predicament:

I helped a friend at work build a rig using 6 GTX 1070s about two months back. It's a pretty sweet machine, made a little money, but optimizing and maintaining it are not his forte (and I can't keep it at my place, wife isn't the biggest fan).

He now wants out of mining and plans to redirect that money into direct investments... So, I've agreed to help him sell it, but where should I go to part this out?

I'll follow up with specs soon, at work I just want to get a jump on the feedback.

Edit: From North Eastern US, Connecticut specifically.

2x Vega 56 OCed: PSU recommendation?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 04:56 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I'm planning to run a 2x Vega 56 rig, both cards bios flashed.

Whilst ive tried using the PSU calculators, I'm not confident it's churning out the right values.

    My rig is - i5 2500k at 4.6ghz - 2x HDD - 1x SDD - 1x Optical

Will be looking to mine as much as possible with these cards.

Would a 750W PSU be sufficient?

    Thanks!

    Help me choose - 2x1060/6 vs RX580

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 04:31 AM PST

I'm limited by the PSUs and PCs I have available in my office (free electricty and parts, though). I only have a non-removable integrated 700W PSU that only has two 6-pin power connectors. Thus I can only put two 1060/6, or one RX580 there (XFX has a single 8-pin connector).

Which would you recommend? I already own the two 1060/6, I bought them cheap and they have already earned some cash, so atm I paid 200 and 225 EUR for them, respectively.

RX580, I'd have to buy new, I have an opened order for one for 284 EUR, but I could shave some price off by selling off my 1060/6s, that should bring the price to 244 EUR, give or take.

I want to consider all things: resale value, potential earnings with nicehash cryptonight boom, ether value ATH with a possible drop in the future cause stuff can't increase forever.

Please help me pick! My 1060/6 are Zotac Amps, by the way and they would have to be sandwitched into existing PCI-E slots. Can't do risers, so I'm worried about the top GPU's temps (and essentially, their MH/s possible).

Currently those Zotacs output 23,5 MH/S each (pure ETH), but I'll probably move to nicehash to make use of cryptonight boom while it still lingers.

The Radeon I ordered is XFX GTS BLACK 580RX 8GB OC+, I believe it can do 30 Mh/s with a custom bios like Sapphire can.

    Sleeping in your mining room

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 02:49 AM PST

Hi guys, please dont punish me. I must admit: I am sleeping in my mining room despite knowing this can cause health issues.

I just wanted to know if others to the same. Obviosuly because rent includes electricity, it is tempting to host your rigs there. Started with a small Workstation - now sleeping with 4xRX580 and 5xR9290 in one single room.

Now during the winter keeping my temperature below 20Celsius,having my window tilt. The main problem is the humidity, which is currently below 30%.

The low humidity is killing my sleep, causing me to wake up several times the night. After 3 months now the wood is already cracking loudly.

Can you share your experience how to solve this problem? I tried to have a vaporizer and a spray with hot water my curtains with no luck. Does a humidity of lets say 50% harm the hardware?

I am thrilled to hear your experiences and what we share every night :D.

    Cheers,key

Will an SLI bridge impair dual-gpu mining ?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2017 12:46 AM PST

Hey! Currently mining with my gaming rig. It has a 1080 ti. I might get a second one so I can both a) play with those in SLI, b) mine with one while I play with the other and c) mine with both of them when I'm not using my PC.

I was wondering if the needed(for gaming) SLI bridge could cause any issues when it comes to giving them those very different tasks. Thanks!

    Help me understand whattomine.com

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 01:46 PM PST

    Afternoon,

I am hoping someone can help me understand whattomine.com and some basic questions along with that.

I am very new to mining and started with VTC, sadly I found out AMD GPU's are horrible for VertCoin so I found Mining Pool Hub and its great. I currently have an AMD 580 GPU, I plug that into whattomine.com and it says I should earn .01 ETH per day and I have been running Claymore Miner through Mining Pool Hub for 43 hours now and I have earned a bit over .006 ETH. The Claymore app shows my GPU speed at just under 19 Mh/s while the overview on the miningpoolhub.com website shows my hashrate anywhere between 6 Mh/s to 30 Mh/s.

Another thing that confuses me is when you enter your GPU it tells you several hash rates for different programs? Lyra2REv2 shows my hash rate at 5700.0 kh/s vs Ethash at 30.2 Mh/s. Are these different programs? How can I tell what program I am using with miningpoolhub?

Thanks for the help with all these basic questions.

First day test-mining on NoobPool. Woke up with 132 shares but no estimated payout and showed offline.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 11:52 PM PST

When downloading claymore from github, a lot of the files seem to be pre-populated with info for nanopool. I'm mining on noobpool all night and with 132 shares it shows an immature balance of 0. However, it shows my last share was submitted recently and has my hashing info updated. Just want to make sure i'm not missing some sort of configuration that is actually giving me credit for mining. I updated the start_only_eth file with my info as well as the cmd entry with my info as well. Does the epools file need to be changed as well? Has lots of nanopools entries. Thanks

Would it be okay for me to mine with my GPU in a case?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 11:44 PM PST

So I have a rig with a 1080 ti but because of new commitments I won't be using it at all 6 days a week pretty much. So is it okay for me to mine while leaving my set-up as is, or will I run into any problems? Btw, I do not plan to add any GPUs to this rig. Thanks for any help!

353 H/s on Red Devil Golden Sample

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 11:05 PM PST

I just got 2 Red Devel Golden Samples and was pulling 220 or so H/s. I tried MSI after burner and wattman, trixx. I found out I had to redo the straps and then OC the hell out of it. I'm talking 1475 on the core and 2250 on the memory. Is this any good? System listed GPUs both on risers EVGA Supernova GS 750 8GB RAM 120GB SSD I'll try and link a screen. Also mining for Zcash 350H/s each card. My 1080Ti 6700k rig does 760Sol/s.

    Celeron g3930 vs pentium g4560

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 07:56 PM PST

All else being equal, does the pentium consume for wattage during idle? I'm thinking the pentium would idle at higher wattage because of the extra silicone needed for hypter threading.

    Thanks.

If ethereum manages to go POS do we lose half of all GPU mining reward? all other GPU coins combined have less inflationary value than ETH.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 09:56 AM PST

I'm a noob and like GPU mining and feel more coins will follow with it because people support it from a philosophical perspective. But those coins are small at the moment.

Spend more on a better cooling solution?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 09:15 AM PST

I wanted to know about peoples' experiences with third party graphics cards on the lower end of their respective product lines. Stuff like zotac amp!, msi armor and Asus dual cards. I know 1060 probably won't be affected much since they're not very power hungry but I'm more interested in how 1070 and 1080 cards perform in terms of temperature, overclockabillity(only on core and memory clocks and not on core voltage) and longevity.

    AMD driver compute toggle

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 11:50 AM PST

I just installed an RX 580 8GB in a windows desktop. Tried using the AMD blockchain drivers and it will not run any miners. So now trying a clean driver install of AMD's newest driver 17.11.2. It works but the slower rate. I don't see the "compute" option anywhere in the "gamin", "global settings" area. Why is it missing?

Mining causes poor remote desktop (Teamviewer, Screenconnect) performance

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 10:13 AM PST

Is there anything I can do so that my remote desktop performance is still really good while mining? The moment I begin mining (direct on a coin or nicehash), all remote desktop software freezes up. I imagine this is due to gpu usage but there must be a way to preserve the remote desktop functionality, even if I sacrifice a bit of hashing power on this rig. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

    Zpool.ca and Awesome Miner

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 09:53 AM PST

    Hey

Does anyone here use Awsome Miner with Zpool.ca?

When i use the automated profit switching it only asks for my Bitcoin address for Zpool. However Zpool requires you to specify which coin you want converting to and picks for you if ypu dont?

Any ideas on how to force it to swap to Bitcoin?

    Cheers
