GPU Mining 1 Vega 1 Cable?

GPU Mining 1 Vega 1 Cable?

    1 Vega 1 Cable?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 08:06 AM PST

I have researched this question a lot and have found convincing answers for both yes and no - Can I use a single 8 pin to dual 6+2 pin cable to power each Vega 56 in my mining rig (as opposed to two separate 8 pin to 8 pin cables per Vega 56)?

For reference, each Vega has two 8 pin power slots each. My PSU is a Corsair HX1200i, but I can only fit 2 Vegas on it if I use two 8 pin cables for each Vega (4x 8pin from the Vega's and 1x 8pin for the 12vATX mobo connection). I am using the soft power table mods to run my Vegas at 130-150W each, which I know is below the limit of one 8-pin cable, but how risky is it if the drivers bug out and they draw more power through the one cable?

Anyone who's had stable Vega rigs running for a while want to weigh in on this?

    AMD card tweaking assistance please

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 08:08 AM PST

I originally had Nvidia cards on a Biostar TB250BTC-PRO motherboard and setup is pretty simple. I use Nicehash software..

Trying to add two RX570 AMD cards when I hit the 8 Nvidia GPU limit has caused me some grief in that I don't feel that I am getting the most of out my two RX 570 cards (Gigabyte Aorus and ASUS STRIX)

I have tried modding my 2 cards BIOS settings (copying 1500 timings to up to the 2000 timings) and changing the memory overclock to 2000mhz, but when I see what my hashrate is, it's below what I should be getting according to whattomine.com

Currently the GPUs are mining CryptoNight and are getting me ~1.260KH/s = 2.84USD/day According to whattomine.com, I should be getting: 3.35 (2.85 profitability) Is the the value in the Mining Devices section where it shows just those RX570 cards gross pay or profitability pay (in the Nicehash software)?

NOTE: I am using the latest AMD drivers, but only installed the AMD Display Drivers, not the AMD Settings software as it screws with my software OC software (ASUS GPU Tweak II) due to AMD Wattman (Wattman is throttling the cards and I'm getting an even lower hashrate). So I can't set Compute as the option is not available.

[Help Request] Issues setting up solo mining

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 06:52 AM PST

Note - I am aware that solo mining is generally not profitable. I am just trying to set this up for learning purposes.

    Problem

I have been having trouble setting up a solo miner and was wondering if anyone could help. I've posted a few times, but haven't gotten any response so I thought I'd give it another shot.

Here is what I've done so far:

    • Picked two random newer altcoins: Innova Coin - neoscrypt and Aerium - skunk

    • Downloaded the wallet for each coin, installed, sync'd

    • In C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\aerium and C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\InnovaCore I either created or edited the aerium.conf and innova.conf files with the following:

      listen=1 daemon=1 server=1 rpcuser=aeriumpc rpcpassword=X rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 rcpconnect=127.0.0.1 rpcport=44445
    • I have an RX470, and have tried using both sgminer and prospector.

In sgminer, I created a .bat file with the following

      setx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 0 setx GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100 setx GPU_MAX_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1 setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 setx GPU_MAX_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 sgminer.exe -k neoscrypt -o 127.0.0.1:44445 -u USERNAMEFROM.CONF -p PASSWORDFROM.CONF -w 256 -g 2 pause

In prospector, I edited the config.toml file to:

      [general] gpu-coin = "sigt" cpu-coin = "xmr" default-username = "USERNAMEFROM.CONF" default-password = "PASSWORDFROM.CONF" [pools.sigt] url = "127.0.0.1:44445"
    • For Innova (INN), I also tried using gatelessgate 0.1.3 and CPUMiner

I edited the gateless-INN.conf file to:

      { "algorithm": "neoscrypt", "intensity": "13", "worksize": "256", "gpu-threads": "1", "load-balance": true, "auto-fan": true, "temp-cutoff": "90", "temp-overheat": "85", "temp-target": "75", "pools": [ { "name": "MAIN", "user": "USERNAMEFROM.CONF", "pass": "PASSWORDFROM.CONF", "quota": "99;127.0.0.1:44445" }, { "__comment": "Please keep this entry. Otherwise, I won't be able to continue open-source development. - zawawa", "name":"DEVFEE", "user": "zawawa.gatelessgate", "pass": "x", "quota": "1;s1.theblocksfactory.com:3333" } ] }

In CPUminer I edited the Innova.bat to:

      cpuminer-gw64-corei7 -a neoscrypt -o 127.0.0.1:44445 -u USERNAMEFROM.CONF -p PASSWORDFROM.CONF pause
    • Start the respective wallets by going to "Start" -> "Run" -> "C:/[filelocation]/[coinname]-qt.exe -server", and then letting it fully sync

    • Start the miners from bat or toml file

    Errors I'm Receiving

    • With respect to prospector, I was getting a repeating error that it couldn't connect.

    • With respect to sgminer, I'm getting an error that:

127.0.0.1 slow/down or URL or credentials invalid No servers were found that could be used to get work from. Please check the details from the list below of the servers you have input Most likely you have input the wrong URL, forgotten to add a port, or have not set up workers.
    • With respect to CPUMiner, I'm getting an error that:

4 miner threads started, using 'neoscrypt' algorithm. Current block is 21012 No payout address provided, switching to getwork Long-polling on http://127.0.0.1:44445 json_rpc_call failed, retry after 10 seconds (note- this line just keeps repeating)
    • With respect to gatelessgate, I'm just getting a "Press any key" then closing.

    Other troubleshooting steps I've taken

    • I tried editing the .conf/.bat/.toml files by changing the address to "localhost" and "http://localhost" and have not had success with either.

    • I tried it with a number of different ports.

    • I tried opening the port on Windows Firewall and temporarily disabled router firewall. Cmd netstat -ab shows the port as "listening" and then "time_wait".

    • I tried running the miner as administrator.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? I have spent hours on this and can't figure it out. I'm sure it's something simply that I'm missing.

Sorry for wall of text. Thank you in advance for your time and help!!!

    Worker info via pool mining

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 06:20 AM PST

Simple question, but a very frustrating issue I'm having. I tried switching pools to confirm that it wasn't the pool causing the issue and it's not.

The issue is that the pool doesn't show each of my miners individually by worker name, instead just shows ID = "0" and lumps all of my workers into one worker. Why is this? I have defined the worker name in my batch files as "rig1", "rig2", etc etc etc. I restarted/updated drivers/etc etc. At one point I managed to get one of the pools to see the first two workers correctly as "rig1" and "rig2" but then 3 through 6 were all bundled under "0". Whyyyy? So frustrating :(......

I am using Claymore to mine btw. Thanks for the help hoping maybe there's a command I'm missing or something...

    How does stacking GPU's work?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 06:09 AM PST

Hi Everyone, Completely new to mining, my friends and I are cs students, and think it wouldn't be the worst investment.

One thing we can't figure out is how to predict the performance (by hash rate/s) of stacking GPUs. I would assume a card that can get 30 h/s isn't going to be multiplied times 6 when you have 6 cards.. is there any way of knowing before you build a rig?

AND Blockchain driver instability with multiple cards?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 07:04 AM PST

I have about three different mining rigs, one with Rx 580s, another with vegas and another mixed. It seems like the Blockchain driver will work okay if I have one card mining, but as soon as I add another the screen has a bunch of white noise artifacts or just crashes. Ive had the same experience with eth (claymore miner) and xmr (xmr-stak miner). I install a normal driver and can mine just fine with multiple cards (but at a lower hash rate). Does anyone else have a similar experience? Should I give up and just use linux?

Are rejected shares the same as invalid shares?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2017 02:31 AM PST

I'm mining ZEC on flypool and I have a small amount of invaalid shares, less than 1%

When I monitor EWBF miner it also shows a small amount of rejected shares. Are these the same thing? Are they a result of too high OC?

Are SATA for risers really that bad

    Posted: 19 Nov 2017 06:41 PM PST

I recently bought 2 RX 580 Red Devil Golden Sample cards. They have each have 1 6+8 power connections. My PSU has only 4, so I have a 6 pin on each riser and one 8 pin on each card, but I can't OC at all. Should I use the SATA for the risers and the GPUs can have both 8+6 pins. I'm only getting 22 Mh/s on each card, and I feel like I should be getting more. Just woundering.

Temperature fan target for NVIDIA GPUs

    Posted: 19 Nov 2017 01:27 PM PST

RX cards have the awesome temperature target where the fans speed up or down in order to keep the GPU on the same temperature. The GPU is always at 70 degrees (for example) and the fans just change their speed accordingly.

I need a tool which can do this and works on NVIDIA GPUs. Note that this is not a classic fan curve but rather a upper limit for a reasonable GPU temperature. NVIDIA's way of reaching a temperature target is just going to a lower strap, which is not helpful in mining.

Edit: GPU-Z log of a RX GPU, note the fan speed and temperature.

    PSA for vega owners

    Posted: 19 Nov 2017 04:03 PM PST

Boys and girls I have no idea what exactly happened and this is most likely my own fault but I'll give it my best shot for PSA reasons.

I have (had) 5 vega 56 GPUs. I only had 4 working properly so I left the last one unrecognized but on while the others mined. While working on the other rig I hear a loud POP. Did it a couple more times and I realized it was the unused GPU. It started smoking and I quickly shut off the rig.

This was my mistake and stupid of me, but I had never considered overheating of this magnitude to be an issue on a GPU that was 100% idle. I'm just thankful I was there to shut it off.

Just started mining and have a couple of questions.

    Posted: 19 Nov 2017 11:31 AM PST

I just started mining with my gaming computer and nicehash. For this, I'm using an Nvidia gtx 1070 founders edition and an intel i7 6700k. I believe everything is going fine right now as nicehash is running and already making me some money. I'm planning on leaving my computer mining when idle and my only concern is that my gpu is at 100% usage with a constant 71 degrees celsius and a fan speed of about 3480 rpm (the max for my fan I believe). Will this damage the card or affect its lifespan greatly, should I turn off the pc from time to time? Also, my cpu is running at about 53% with a constant 52 degrees and 754 rpm, but I don't think this is cause for concern at all. Any other suggestions for a mining noob?

    Thanks a lot, Ignacio

    Mining on older GPU/CPUs?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2017 11:35 AM PST

Is mining on old graphics cards (and processors) possible? Is there any app that would support, say , gt 730?
