Why do many exchanges have such high withdrawal fees for bitcoin?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2017 04:01 AM PST

These days it is not uncommon that exchanges require you to have a 0.001 or even 0.002 BTC withdrawal fee. Why do they do this to me?

For example, Hitbtc still uses a fee of 0.0004 BTC and it works just as fast. I say this from multiple personal experiences, although I do not want to recommend Hitbtc as it is shady enough.

TLDR Exchanges should make it possible for users to select a 0.0004 BTC withdrawal fee so that users can decide themselves what they want to pay.

    Bitcoin Gold/Cash/etc: a spear-phishing exercise?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2017 02:32 PM PST

So I just considered dumping my BTG "windfall", and then I started to think about who would want to buy this new coin, and cui bono. And to me, it seems suspicious, that this could be a way to get long-term hodlers to move coins to exchange accounts, tying otherwise unidentifiable coins (of the original BTC balances) to identities.

Am I on crazy pills, or is anyone touching these forked coins (be it BTG/BCH/tomorrow's ooga-booga-coin) simply divulging their possibly private coin stash in return for a small windfall profit? Should we expect Big Government / the Russian Mafia / the Lizard Men to come bursting through our doors next?

A bit new to cryptocurrency trading

    Posted: 24 Nov 2017 08:25 AM PST

As the title says, I am a bit new to all this and was wondering if there was any reading I could do. I have absolutely no experience in any sort of trading really.

coinmarket cap api not working as expected

    Posted: 24 Nov 2017 09:46 AM PST

I am trying to use the coinmarketcap api with symbol "BTG" instead it gives me the "BTC" price.

Can anyone else confirm if it happens to them also?

Edit it also does not work with BTX, but it works for ETH. Does the rank matter?

How can BTC:USD and BTC:EUR fall while BTC:GBP is rising?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2017 08:55 AM PST

I've been watching the Coinbase BTC pairs today and for the last four hours, the USD & EUR pairs have been falling yet the GBP pairs are rising. Shouldn't they mostly track the same? The pound has had another bad day... but not that bad.

Should Coinbase's #1 Criteria for Which Cryptos to Support Be 'How Easily/Likely is this Crypto to Be Manipulated' ?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2017 07:46 PM PST

Without considering this context above all, innocent retail investors will get taken advantage of.

This, IMO, should be perhaps the #1 consideration.

Swissquote Bank SA to release actively managed bitcoin ETF based on an algorithm that uses "technical signals" and sentiment expressed on social media to try to forecast the market.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2017 10:07 PM PST

Swissquote Bank SA upped its cryptocurrency game with the release of an exchange-traded product that will attempt to curb volatility by switching holdings between bitcoin and dollars.

The Switzerland-based online trader called its offering the first actively managed bitcoin certificate. Funds will be shifted between the digital currency and cash based on an algorithm that will use "technical signals" and sentiment expressed on social media to try to forecast the market. Trading will take place on the SIX Swiss Exchange.

Online trading firms, hedge funds and foreign-exchange platforms are launching new bitcoin products to try to get onboard a rally that has seen the biggest cryptocurrency surge eightfold this year. Traders are hungry for ways to hedge downside risk and adopt flexible positions after three separate slumps of more than 25 per cent this year and a raft of commentators warning of a bubble.

"Investors are excited about the cryptocurrency but are unnerved by its volatility," Peter Rosenstreich, the bank's head of market strategy, said in an interview. "So we tried to build a trading algorithm that's a protection against downside risks"

Swissquote said in a statement Thursday it will hold the cryptocurrency and a buffer of dollars that ranges from zero to 40 per cent of the certificate's portfolio, depending on its quantitative algorithmic trading strategy. The exposure is limited to bitcoin and cash, minus a 1.5-per-cent management fee and trading costs, it said.

Investor Mike Novogratz, who's setting up a $5000million hedge fund to invest in digital currencies, said this week bitcoin will end the year at $10,000. The cryptocurrency fell 1 per cent to $8,123.36 at 11:05 a.m. in London on Thursday.

Alternative to Kraken - trading with leverage from EU

    Posted: 23 Nov 2017 02:16 PM PST

I know they promised to fix the engine by December 1st, however I will not organize my trades on the assumption that their exchange goes back to fully functional overnight.

Alternatives I have seen around here are:

Bitfinex: (+) good liquidity, supports leverage, decent platform (-) track record of hacking, tether issuance controversia (big red flag for me)

Bitmex: (+) up to 100 leverage (too much for me tbh) (-) dealbreaking fees

Poloniex: (-) only trades in crypto

Leaving Coinbase/GDAX out since leverage is only for big boys. Same for Bitstamp.

    Any preferences?

.01 BTC is getting a little expensive. What was it when that policy started? Isn't it time to go to .005 or even .001?

Please someone clarify how CME futures and potential for ETF are not priced in already?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2017 01:10 PM PST

I see a lot of hype regarding CME futures and how they will make the Bitcoin price go to 20k$ by Christmas (according to Richard Heart), then how this will serve as a fundament for ETFs and average Joe Schmo will be buying it in his pension fund and 401k along with mutual and hedge funds which cannot buy Bitcoin right now will be given tools to do it.

And all of that is supposed to make Bitcoin go to "moon" (although I would argue we are beyond moon levels at this exact point).

How realistic is this though? Why cannot all of this information and expectations already priced in the current price?

    Withdrawals on YoBit

They have a big sell wall keeping it under 8k while everybody else is higher by almost $70. If this is your mini dip go for it.

Is there a Software/Platform to execute trades simultaneously across multiple cryptocurrency-exchanges (with a single click)?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2017 01:13 PM PST

Hi! As the title suggests, I'm looking for a paid/unpaid platform or software to execute trades simultaneously across multiple exchanges. The goal is to have greater liquidity. A bot software with this function is welcome too!
