What’s the best Crypto advice you’ve been given on this sub?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 02:05 PM PST

I know it's mentioned a lot that you shouldn't take advice from people on this sub, and I'm a huge believer in doing your own research.

However, since joining this sub my Crypto portfolio is definitely performing a lot better than it was beforehand. Yes, this is largely due to this being a major hub for crypto news, but advice I've been given by others on here has definitely helped me out too. Here are some of the best pieces of advice I've been given:

BTC/ETH should make up around 70% of your portfolio

Staking as a method of passive income

Earning free BAT through the Brave browser

How to set up a hard wallet, and why I should

    Importance of understanding Tokenomics

2 of my top 5 gainers this year were introduced to me through this sub (won't name as this isn't a shill post)

This sub definitely isn't all that bad, and there are some very smart people in here. What's the best piece of advice you've been given on this sub?

EDIT: Some great mentions in the comments that I feel should be highlighted in the main body (as I know some won't bother to read the comments)

Don't invest more than you can afford to lose

Time in the market > timing the market

YouTube is generally a bad place for Crypto information

Double-check all addresses before hitting send. Just saved a friend from a clipboard malware.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 06:49 PM PST

So today, I wanted to introduce a friend to a certain cryptocurrency and asked him to copy-paste his metamask and send it to me via chat. Having this constant paranoia and fear of sending crypto to wrong addresses, I decide to look up the address he sent to me on etherscan, and I find quite a large balance with many transactions. I make a joke to my friend about how rich he was, but he tells me that he has a 0 balance. That was when the alarm bells started going off in my mind. I ask him to take note of the first two and last two characters in his ethereum address, copy it, and then paste it to me. He tells me the address changed when it was pasted from the windows clipboard. To be double sure, I ask him to make up a random set of numbers and letters of length 42, then copy and paste it in our chat. The fake addressthat was pasted changed.

    My suspicions were right.

In short, his computer was infected by the colormania malware that targets the windows clipboard. This malware checks whether a copied text has a particular length that is common to some blockchains and replaces the text or address, in this case, with the attacker's address. So when you hit paste and click the send button, the address changes and the funds are sent to the attacker instead. We found evidence of the malware at the task manager's background processes. And lo and behold, we found colormania running in there. I had him download and install Malwarebytes, which found several threats on his system and cleared it. Now, the values of addressed copied onto the clipboard no longer changed when he pasted them. I guess the moral of this is to double check addresses whenever sending cryptocurrency.

    Always stay paranoid

This is one of the attacker's ethereum address: 0x51e199f1ec3030B4610007C29ab3D272af91Dfd6

Comment Something Negative About a Cryptocurrency and Have People Guess Which One It Is

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 11:39 AM PST

As the title says, comment something negative about any cryptocurrency and see if people can guess which cryptocurrency you are talking about.

I see so many of the same types of posts right now so thought I would change it up and see if people are on the same page of the negatives of specific cryptocurrencies.

I plan on taking the results of the most upvoted comments and making a top X out of it and creating another poll to get more results of how the community feels on certain cryptocurrencies.

Do you think LRC is a good long term investment?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 05:51 PM PST

Curious what people outside of the Loopring subreddits think about it. There's a lot of sentiment that it has a good chance to multiply in its value overtime as more partnerships and NFT's get announced down the road to be using loopring, whether it is for Gamestop or otherwise.

Personally its currently my second biggest holding after ETH. I just wonder what are the odds for it to possibly tank if the Gamestop rumors end up not being true or if it could still end up blowing up down the road, especially as a potential NFT marketplace crypto.

What are your honest opinions of it?

Why I'm going to start taking profit (and you should too)

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 03:06 PM PST

    +205%

That's how much my portfolio had gained at one point last year.

Life was really looking up. I had hit my goal for crypto gains for the year and I considered taking some profits.

"Maybe just my initial investment," I thought to myself.

But no, I'm a HODLer. I believe in the tech long term. I believe that the coins I'm invested in, will in 5-10 years time form the foundations of decentralised AI, finance and web3.0 infrastructure.

"I'm likely to see a bear market or dip soon" but who cares?

The short-term dips won't matter in 5 years time!

"These kinds of gains take years in the stock market, and I've seen them in less than a year". I was naive, waking up to my portfolio at higher highs every morning.

    -8%

    That's my portfolio today.

All those unrealised gains, lost. Everything that was once beautiful flourishing green, is red like the blood of a slaughtered goat.

I considered selling some of my gains at the top, but I was too greedy. I wanted more. Had I taken some profits, I would've had the opportunity to buy in at much lower prices.

What am I going to do?

I'm still HODLing. But I've decided during the next bull run, I will take profit (nothing massive, the initial investment or less) and hold those funds in wait for a significant dip. The dips do come and will come and I think it really benefits your mental health to be able to take some amount of profit.

A Billionaire Investor Has Just Called The Bitcoin Bottom After A $1 Trillion Crypto Price Crash

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 06:27 PM PST

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency prices have dropped sharply over the last week, with the combined crypto market now down around $1 trillion from its November peak (even as Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs issued a huge bitcoin price prediction).

The bitcoin price has fallen around 10% since the beginning of 2022, crashing towards $40,000 from highs of almost $70,000 late last year. Meanwhile, other major cryptocurrencies ethereum, Binance's BNB, solana, cardano and XRP have also crashed back, all losing double-digit percentages this past week.

Now, as traders desperately hunt for signs the sell-off has ended, bitcoin and crypto billionaire Mike Novogratz said he doesn't expect bitcoin to fall any further—calling the price bottom just under bitcoin's lows this week of $40,680.

"On the charts, $38,000, $40,000 feels like where we should bottom," Novogratz, the chief executive of crypto investment management company Galaxy Digital, told CNBC, pointing to "tremendous amount of institutional demand on the sidelines." "I know big institutions who are going through their process to put positions on and so I think they're gonna see those as attractive levels to buy," said Novogratz, a Wall Street veteran that jumped headfirst into bitcoin and crypto in 2017 after stints at Fortress and Goldman Sachs. Wall Street giants and institutional investors have flooded into cryptocurrency markets since 2020 as digital assets grab trader attention. The bitcoin price has risen around 400% over the last two years, with smaller cryptocurrencies such as ethereum and solana making even greater gains.

However, bitcoin and cryptocurrencies remain highly volatile, putting off many big investors despite some predicting bitcoin will win market share from gold as a store of value over the next few years. The bitcoin price dropped sharply this week after the Federal Reserve released the minutes of its December meeting in which officials discussed the possibility of earlier and faster interest rate hikes and shrinking the Fed's huge balance sheet in order to rein in soaring inflation.

The bitcoin price fell to lows of just over $40,000 per bitcoin this week before rebounding and has now climbed to over $42,000. The ethereum price has also bounced off its lows this week, helping the price of its smaller rivals Binance's BNB, solana, and cardano to rally. Ripple's XRP also moved higher. "We've had this philosophy that the Fed's gonna keep rates low forever and even now, they're going to raise rates to 2% over two years gradually and continue to buy Treasuries for a while," Novogratz said. "So we're in this liquidity bubble." Novogratz also warned that if the Fed fails to get a handle on inflation, the situation could spiral out of control. "If inflation doesn't come down like the Fed thinks, all bets are off," he said.

The blockchain being used in El Salvador to allow Bitcoin transactions is not Bitcoin or Lightning network, it's ALGORAND! Here is the evidence why I think Algorand will run all of the crypto infrastructure in Central America and South America.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 12:40 PM PST

I know it's confusing! It's taken me awhile to piece it together as they haven't been very transparent about what technology is really being used. But it looks like Algorand is doing all the heavy lifting behind the scene's to allow people to transact with their BTC in El Salvador. Every time anyone want's to buy a coffee in El Salvador they're using Algorand behind the scenes!

We know Koibanx signed an agreement to build all of El Salvador's public crypto infrastructure on Algorand but it's hard to find something confirming Chivo is built on Algorand. What we do know is that Chivo is NOT built on the Bitcoin or Lightning network. It seem's like there is only one real conclusion: ALGORAND.

    https://www.algorand.com/resources/ecosystem-announcements/el-salvador-signs-agreement-with-koibanx-to-develop-its-blockchain-infrastructure-on-algorand

My guess is Algorand will be used by the majority of Central American and South American countries to build out their crypto infrastructure.

Interesting video I found today confirming that Chivo doesn't use Bitcoin network or Lightning network:

    https://youtu.be/M5dYJAZ2zPM?t=789

Here you have Silvio Micali (Founder of Algorand) meeting with the Mayor of Buenos Aires(Argentina), Horacio Rodríguez Larreta:

    https://twitter.com/silviomicali/status/1468674270066741249

Here is the Central Bank of Brazil mentioning MIT and Algorand:

    https://www.bcb.gov.br/content/about/eventsdocs/Webinar%20Series%20-%20Digital%20Brazilian%20Real/Robert_Townsend_Presentation.pdf

Here you have Silvio Micali meeting with the president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou:

    https://twitter.com/koibanx/status/1468933424052375552/photo/1

Why I think Mexico will use Algorand:

Bitso a mexican Crypto exchange is the core crypto provider for Chivo Wallet and is helping El Salvador build out it's infrastructure:

    https://twitter.com/Bitso/status/1435311305687281668?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1435311305687281668%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.r1news.com.br%2Fis-mexican-exchange-bitso-behind-el-salvadors-chivo-wallet%2F

Mexico announces they will release CBDC by 2024:

    https://www.coindesk.com/policy/2021/12/30/mexico-plans-to-issue-a-cbdc-by-2024-government-confirms/

TL;DR: Evidence is pointing to Algorand being the blockchain that will be used in Central and South America. Companies that span most of central/south america are working together on El Salvador's infrastructure, such as BitGo, Koibanx, Bitso, Silvergate Bank, Athena Bitcoin.

Polkadot (DOT) is incredibly undervalued. Tomorrow, its first parachain becomes tradeable! Five chains launching on it this month. Five more every month through EOY. LFG!

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 09:54 AM PST

Polkadot has been sitting in the Top 10 doing NOTHING for almost two years, but it's finally waking up. 5 chains are launching in the upcoming weeks. The first, Moonbeam (GLMR), has a public launch date of the 11th. Source%C2%A0).

Four more in the weeks after - Acala, Parallel, Astar, and Clover Finance (but they're shady). 100 parachains total launching on it over the next few months. Every single one will result in more DOT getting locked up for 2 years because of DOT's crowdloan mechanism - https://polkadot.js.org/apps/?rpc=wss%3A%2F%2Frpc.polkadot.io#/parachains/crowdloan

This is seriously a no brainer. Cardano has a 50% higher market cap with just a few smart contracts running on it. I would not be telling you DOT was undervalued if they were the same market cap. Yesterday, I asked r/CryptoCurrency to compare ADA and DOT. Here's how I asked the community. Judge for yourself if I was biased in how I wrote the question, but look through the comments. ADA is getting taken out to the cleaners.

This is a legitimate opportunity that I've waited several years to occur.

Just keep it in mind and see you on the 11th.

The NFL is slowly dipping toes into the crypto world and this is good news for all of us

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 07:51 PM PST

We know the NFL to be the biggest sports league in America. The sport has has massive revenue and growth over the past two decades but few tings are more establishment driven, centralized and authoritarian than the NFL. Without getting into that controversy let's see where the NFL is on crypto.

    We know the following

    • There are players in the NFL who receive some of their salary in crypto. This list includes Aaron Rodgers, Stars Odell Beckham jr and Trevor Lawrence plus Sequaon Barkley, Sean Culkin, Aaron Jones. There may be more I am not aware of.
    • Rodgers and OBJ both promoted giving $1M in bitcoin on a cashapp promo. I personally received $10 in BTC from both.
    • Cashapp also has a campaign with ESPN to give out Bitcoin,. Another $10 in BTC to my wallet.
    • We know New England Patriots QB gifted his entire Offensive line some Bitcoin for xmas.
    • Tom Brady gave Bitcoin to a fan in exchange for a football that what used to throw his 600th TD pass.
    • He also owns an NFT platform Autograph and sponsors for FTX
    • In last Thursdays game it was said that Ezequiel Elliot gave his co RB Tony Pollard crypto for xmas.
    • Crypto.com's add with Matt Damon has bombarded every NFL game / network. He is all over the place.
    • The NFL made it clear before the season started that they did not want players and teams promoting anything crypto as they are planning something as whole meaning as united league. Think NFL NFT's or NFL fan token. Who knows?
    • I expect crypto to do some good advertising during the super bowl. If not I will be disappointed.
    • We know Snoop Dogg is big on the metaverse and NFT's and Eminem just bought an ENS and BAYC. They will both perform during the 1/2 time show. Think crypto won't come up?

The point is the NFL has massive audience in America but all over the world from Mexico to Asia and all around. The NFL has audiences of all ages, races, sex and financial income. It does not discriminate when wanting your attention so the fact that crypto, NFT's, Metaverse and maybe more will be mentioned during the Super Bowl and this will carry on to the 2022 season is just big for the industry and all of us.

Step by step guys. Little by little. This is how it happens. The NFL will be huge in bringing more and more people into crypto whether they are trying or not. Its inevitable
