    Can Solana really beat Ethereum?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2021 03:04 AM PST

I've been seeing a lot of articles talking about Solana as the "main contender" that will beat Ethereum as the world's pre-eminent network for decentralized finance. Also came across this article where there's a part talking about how Solana will take Ethereum's place.

I don't know, but I feel like Solana is just so hyped. Sure, there's great potential with it, but I feel like heralding it as the one that will beat Ethereum feels exaggerated and stupid. Though I still agree that it should be among the top dogs. I'm really into the tech that's going on with them.

I bought an ENS address, now what?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2021 06:59 PM PST

Why are people putting it as their twitter handles? That makes my ETH address known and people can see how much money I have. That just makes me an easier target for people with malicious intent. I really don't see the point as there's no privacy to your address.

If anyone has any cool use cases other than having your ETH address being shorter. Please let me know.

    Distributing Web3 - The Daily Gwei #401

    Posted: 16 Dec 2021 05:11 AM PST

I am teaching myself how to code. My question is if you take an undergraduate computer science degree and you strip away everything that you will either learn on the job or is not relevant for web3. What is left and how can I learn it as quickly as possible?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2021 09:55 AM PST

It would be awesome for me to make sort of a checklist of the things I will dig into. I was thinking networking and distributed systems is definitely a topic. But maybe there are things that are either not that crucial to understanding or that I will anyway learn on the go when programming a lot. I already have decent math skills from studying economics, so a lot of math-related things should be fine already. I'm glad over any suggestions.

Is this a good method to handle smart-contract admin rights?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2021 05:00 AM PST

Hi, I have a smart contract that does some stuff (for a small community project)

Now, I interact with this contract from time to time with my private key which resides in AWS. Now, this is generally safe but possibly not the safest thing to do I believe. Given I might handle a good amount of money with this smart contract, I am considering the following method to secure it to protect access to my contract:

    1. Generate some 100 private keys from an offline PC and store them on some hard drive.
    2. Every week, I shall trigger my contract and do something with it and then update the admin address of the contract to a new address from my pool of unused addresses.
    3. So, next week I will be able to address the private key of new admin address, interact with my contract and again update it to a new admin address?

Is this a good method to do or is it overkill? What is the general practice in the industry dealing with public smart contracts for the community? Also, the above method will need me to manually set the keys every week. Any better method to automate?

    Thanks in advance.

    Can a DAO have employees?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2021 04:40 PM PST

Hi, I'm learning about DAO's, very very interesting. I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on how a DAO actually functions from a business standpoint. It seems to me that DAO's only work if its connected somehow to the internet of things but I know that most business in reality have some sort of workforce. Is it possible for a DAO and its token holders to vote on and hire an employee to conduct say the daily operation of said business?

    Thanks,

    ENS domain privacy?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2021 04:57 PM PST

What are the best practices before registering a ens domain and using it as your social profile.

For example, I see a lot of twitter users having their eth addresses as their usernames.

If connected to a wallet you've been using for years, doesn't that expose your entire investment history unnecessarily to the public?

Pretty new to all this and wondering if it's best practice to always use a new wallet to register/control an ens domain if you're going to use it publicly?

    Thanks.

Ethereum and Solana work together in this space.

    Posted: 16 Dec 2021 09:08 AM PST

Why is everything a "ETH killer" to everyone?. Many blockchains will shine in different fields that the others will not. There will never be a coin that will rule them all, a competitive free market will have different options available for people.

Ethereum has the most TVL and tons of apps so it's not going anywhere. Solana is focusing on simplicity for the average user by offering cheap fees and fast transactions. It's investing heavily in gaming/web 3.0 and NFT's.

Nothing is stopping you from diversifying your portfolio e.g. 80% of ETH and then the rest.
