    Weekly News Summaries - October 10, 2021

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 01:35 PM PDT

    INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Weekly News Summaries megathread. Why does this thread exist? Daily news summaries are not allowed anymore since they were viewed as excessive. In response, the mod team created the Weekly News Summaries megathread for consolidating all periodic news summaries. The goal is to level the playing field between contributors while also creating a convenient all-in-one format for readers to enjoy.

    STRUCTURE

All r/CC rules apply. Only approved contributors are allowed to make top-level comments, ie summaries. Summaries will be sorted by contest mode. This thread will posted every Sunday at 12PM CST and pinned once a week if an open slot is available.

Contributors can submit summaries on news articles, coin prices, sentiment, or any crypto related subject. Contributors will post content at their earliest convenience so it might be advantageous if you use the RES extension to subscribe to this thread and find out when content is posted.

    APPROVED CONTRIBUTORS:

    RECRUITING CONTRIBUTORS

If you have a new type of summary and want to become an approved contributor, submit an application in r/CryptoRecruiting. In your application, ignore most of the questions pertaining to mod recruiting. Simply state what your background is, how much account age and karma you have, and what your news summary will be about. Providing a small preview for your summary will be helpful. Applicants may be given a trial opportunity in the next weekly thread for evaluation purposes. If your application is not approved, you can do your own weekly news summaries as a separate post.

Be advised, this thread is experimental and a work in progress. Expect future changes.

If SHIB has to go to even 10 cents, it will multiply the entire crypto market cap by 20x. It wont, it is just a shitcoin

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 01:46 PM PDT

SHIB is grossly over valued, just like dogecoin was overvalued back in March, and everyone who called it out back then was spot on.

Of course, the SHIB shills are peddling the narrative that it will go to $1.

    Currently, one SHIB = $0.00002715

To go to $1, it has to go up by 3,683,141%. Yes, it has to go up by 3 million %...

To go to even 10c, it has to go up by 362,884%

Apparently, there are 394,796,000,000,000 SHIBs in circulation.

Even at 10c, the market cap of SHIB alone will be over $39 Trillion.

To be specific, a market cap of Thirty-Nine Trillion, Four Hundred Seventy-Nine Billion Six Hundred Million dollars

Today, the entire crypto market cap is around $2.3 Trillion. So even at 10c, SHIB will be worth 20x today's crypto market cap.

Firstly, this is not happening anytime soon.

Secondly, this is not happening anytime in the future either.

There is a higher probability of SHIB going to zero over it going to $1 or even 10c.

Hundreds of shitcoins bust onto the scene during a crypto boom cycle, only to disappear during the bust.

SHIB is a token that has no real value, apart from exploiting amateur investors and unit bias and traders riding it for quick gains. Almost everyone is in SHIB purely for profit. Many want over night riches and plan to hold till $1, which they believe will come soon.. many others are riding it got quick gains, and there is nothing wrong in that. Many shitcoins can give quick gains. But for them to claim there is something innovative or anything resembling new technology in SHIB is just delusional.

The whole project is quite an exquisite combination of several pyramid scheme elements, and is quite well done. The devs have really delivered on their promise of making themselves rich.

Getting rich with crypto the slow and safe way via compounding is better than getting rich quickly but get higher risks.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 12:12 AM PDT

You can earn huge amounts of returns on your investment by compounding your crypto by staking, lending, and taking advantage of compounding.

Crypto markets do not have set periods like bonds or savings accounts since they are always open. It is also stated that compound interest is the world's eighth wonder and the secret to prosperity (I'm not even sure if this was true or made.

CeFi and DeFi is the reason for the surge of APY. It is now feasible to earn interest on cryptocurrency for the first time. There are risks, but it is a massive multiplier that may significantly increase your performance, and it would be a big miss of you not to consider it.

For those curious, here are some of the ways to start compounding your crypto:

    • Staking your currency or tokens on your preferred protocol with your own private crypto wallet. Validating blocks is a common way to contribute to the chain's security. Examples: ADA, AAVE.
    • Decentralized or Centralized Lending via a crypto bank and let them compensate you for allowing the platform to retain or lock up your crypto. The mechanism is different in this case. You can often obtain great rates, but the downside is, you are not in charge of your coins if something goes wrong. Examples are Haru Invest, Celsius, and COMP.
    • With LP Tokens. The biggest returns, but also has the most risk. Here you may put token pairs into a pool to be exchanged by users. UniSwap and Pancakeswap are two examples.

On its own, compound interest is fantastic. However, utilizing compound interest to collect additional units of an asset that is appreciating will drastically speed up the process.

Some may argue that YES, these platforms are risky, and I agree that entrusting your funds to a custodian or a random smart contract is a risky proposition. However, compound interest over time has the potential to be an interesting breakthrough in this sector, and it may be safer than day trading. But only if you are brave enough.

You CAN get rich in say, 5 months but the shorter the timespan, the higher the risk. And to contrast, you CAN get rich in 5 years but with the longer the timespan, then the risk is also lower.

As always, it's always highly recommended to DYOR into these platforms.

Why there are no cat coins?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 03:52 PM PDT

It has just came to my attention how the crypto space has so many dog coins.

Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, Kishu Inu, UnderDog, renDOGE, Doge Token, DogeFI, DogeCash etc.

Funny how it may seem the popularity of cats in the cryptocurrency space is extremely low in contrast to the centralized internet space.

There is CAT Token and CatCoin but their popularity is nowhere near their furry counterparts - dogs.

    This makes me now wonder.................

As the title says describe your entire portfolio in a single sentence, I may comment and try to guess what coins you're holding as well. Bonus points if your comment is funny I'll tip you a moon.

I have no other words to say and this 500 character limit is really annoying so here is some filler text that holds no value or relevant information to the post.

please don't disclose the value of your portfolio that's never a good idea, and I don't want this thread to be a target for scammers

No matter how many times I send crypto, it scares the shit out of me

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 04:44 PM PDT

Whenever I move a crypto from one wallet to another or from exchange to a wallet etc; I am generally anxious as can be and I'm on edge until I see that transaction show up in my account.

I double and triple check the account code and have all my safety features on etc but it still makes me nervous that I could lose some of my investments with a simple wrong keystroke.

I once lost a small amount of crypto when I was new into crypto and didn't quite understand how things worked , I didn't get the address wrong , I got the network wrong. I contacted the exchange and the wallet it was going to etc and nothing came of it .

Moral of the story is ; it will prob always make me nervous and I guess that makes me throughly check everything so I guess it's not the worst thing

It doesn’t matter how fast, cheap or secure your blockchain is if no one wants to use it.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 05:00 PM PDT

I know this is a blasphemous post to most of this sub, but give me a read before you downvote.

I think the most underrated aspect of a crypto project is the network effect. The network effect refers to the adoption that a network has, in cryptos case it would be decentralized applications.

A lot of people get caught up in finding the fastest or cheapest smart contract platform, but they don't care about a platform that is actually being used.

To put things into perspective, the average Ethereum fee has been 28$ for the last few months. That means that people want to use Ethereum so much that they are willing to pay a fucking ridiculous amount to use it.

You're probably thinking: "what an asshole, he's justifying gas fees". That is definitely not what I'm doing. Gas fees suck. But you have to admit that it really says something when people are willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money just for the privilege to use a platform.

TL;DR: Fast and cheap blockchains are great, but what matters most for a blockchain is that people want to use it.

I've defended ETH for too long

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 09:00 PM PDT

I'm sick of the gas fees. I'm sick of the laggy DEX. I'm sick of crabbing. ETH really seems more and more like a great way of putting your money somewhere where it's hard to get to and you get to watch it grown just to burn all of your gains on gas fees to pull it out.

Then there's the layer 2 solutions. Polygon is not a solution. I still have to find somewhere to buy matic and then pay $80 in gas fees if i want to move it to polygon?! what good is that?!

I've been an ETH believer for a long time and now I feel like a captive. I only hold because it's impossible to get my money out of the damn exchange. Seeing tinyman on Algorand has just made me even more pissed off at ETH.

I hope it doesn't ever die. because i'm heavily invested but if you're new and want ETH just get it on CB or something and don't bother with DEFI. It's just infuriating.

Crypto making kids more financially conscious and is this a new beginning on that front?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 02:44 AM PDT

I mean, I've seen kids younger than me talking and discussing about crypto on discord and telegram. It wasn't even straight away clear that they were soo young and this is coming frm a 20 yo like me, because after all they may have had the same learning time of a 50 yo in that as well started in the last half year, with the plus that we were born with mobiles, internet and social networks of all kinds.

I've read of some 18 yo that didn't know how to justify thousands of dollars in their hands/accounts as their parents wouldn't understand and probably wouldn't believe they'd not be drug money or something similar, so they just didn't say anything and couldn't change into FIAT to not make them notice.

It's interesting to witness all this and I think it may be the beginning of a new era. Most of teens didn't know much of anything similar at that age normally in the past, now because crypto we get info also on other markets and by looking up more info and we kinda learn loads of stuff ourselves or atleast more than what our previous generations knew at that age.

    What do you all think?

How long did you hold on for?

What made you decide to pack it in? Was it the price or the project's potential?

What made you invest in the first place?

Did you promote it, or try to get others involved? Maybe joined the subreddit?

Minting your NFT is ridiculously EASY and it is FREE.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 11:26 PM PDT

I tried minting an NFT just for the hell of it and it was surprisingly easy and free. Great thing if you're an aspiring artist or just curious about the technology. Link is in the comments if anyone's curious. Don't buy it, It's just a test mint. I just want to show that you could mint the most ridiculous things.

    STEP 1:

Create ANY art. You could use any art you have done in the past. My art took less than a minute on Paint.

    STEP 2:

Create a crypto wallet. Preferably MetaMask. This is where the funds go.

    Step 3:

Create a NFT Marketplace Account. I used Mintable because it is "FREE".

    Step 4:

Go auction your art! Make sure to transfer the copyright and put some labels and description. You could make a twitter account to shill your low effort art.

Take note that Mintable takes some fees if your art does sell.

Don’t get upset with people that don’t agree with your investments, it’s not up to you to convince others, convince yourself and nothing else should matter.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 03:39 AM PDT

Work colleague tries on a daily basis to get me to invest in the coins he has in his portfolio, often trying to make the projects I'm in seem insignificant, well let me just tell you this same colleague is heavily invested in Shiba, so of course his recommendations/opinions mean nothing to me.. yet when I tell him I'm not interested he gets visibly annoyed almost as if I'm disrespecting a member of his family, he can't wrap his head around why I wouldn't also think that it's a good investment.

Don't be like this. It doesn't matter if you're a shitcoin maxi or shilling BTC, don't become rude or act offended just because someone else doesn't believe in the same things as you. If you believe in a project then that's down to you, stand by your investments instead of acting like others are stupid for not being in them.

ERGO: “It’s one of the most revolutionary cryptocurrencies ever built. It should be a top 10 coin or top 15 coin” — Charles Hoskinson

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 09:08 PM PDT

    Why we need ERGO

Ergo is the first blockchain to adopt the smart contract language in the same eUTxO (extended UTXO) model as Cardano, enabling Proof of Work compatibility.

Proof of Stake is not as secure as Proof of Work. When it comes to the biggest dApp projects, they will demand the most security, and if they want to build on ADA then they have to build on Ergo. ERG will be the primary technology for the biggest projects on ADA that demand utmost security.

Alex Chepurnoy contributed to the development of Cardano and founded Chainlink.

Even has proof of no pre-mine

A fair coin, like Bitcoin, and here we are in as ERG dips 50% from all time highs. A major catalyst needs to happen and we'll see ERG shoot up like a rocket. I predict that the catalyst will be the day ERG gets listed on a major exchange. The time to get in is now. DCA the dip and hold for mainstream release.

So, it seems that we are all getting tired of post like what coin should i buy, what coin are you bullish on or what coin will be huge in the future, so today i have decided to break the chain of asking other people opininon on what coin to buy by asking you all to tell me what coin should i avoid buying. Among the countless coin out there what coin should i never buy and what is your reason for it. Also, among the popular coin what coin do you think will not last very wrong.
