Bitcoin will become legal tender in El Salvador, and this won't end well

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 06:06 PM PDT

I live in El Salvador, proof of here:

https://imgur.com/gallery/SmC1o9c (banana and mango for scale)

So, what's going on right now in El Salvador? How did we get here?

Since Nayib Bukele announced that Bitcoin will become legal tender in El Salvador, you guys preferred profits over people. Why? Well, Nayib Bukele used his popularity to trick everyone he is a "cool guy", willing to sacrify himself in the name of the people. But, yeah he is just a Trump-wannabe that uses people's ignorance to stay popular. For example, he is blaming George Soros for pretty much eveything:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/XGD0o9P

    Yeah, everything: https://imgur.com/gallery/yRqyZV1

From accusing Human Rights Watch director ob being financed by George Soros: https://imgur.com/gallery/IyXFeBh

To accuse journalists of being paid by Soros:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/1CscRa4

    https://imgur.com/gallery/JXUDigc

And even accusing congressmen/congresswomen of being financed by Soros because they supported the Engel List (A list of corrupt politicians in Central America)

    https://imgur.com/gallery/XGD0o9P

Bonus track: Nayib Bukele even tried to interfere in a local US election, by asking people not to vote for a Congresswoman:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/A9ytFTB

You did it reddit, you are supporting a President who is using the same ultra right-wing tactics that Trump used.

Now, what's going on right now in El Salvador?

Darkness. No really, we are being left on the dark. The Parliament approved the Bitcoin Law in LESS than six hours, and it was done very late at night:

    https://diarioelsalvador.com/asamblea-cerca-de-aprobar-el-bitcoin-como-moneda-de-curso-legal/90324/

Some of our congressmen didn't even know what they were voting for, for real:

    https://www.elsalvador.com/noticias/nacional/diputado-reynaldo-cardoza-no-entiende-bitcoin-apoyo-salvadorenos/871633/2021/

However, passing the law wasn't enough, since our country is still recovering from the effects of the pandemic. How is the government funding the Bitcoin Law? By reducing the education, and health budget and using that money to built the Bitcoin infraestructure:

    https://www.laprensagrafica.com/elsalvador/Restan-fondos-a-Salud-Educacion-y-asignan-a-Ley-Bitcoin-20210830-0081.html

(BTW I thought you guys were against reducing education budgets)

How is that money being used? We don't know. All of the information regarding the construction of Chivo ATMs, purchasing Chivo ATMs, purchasing Bitcoins, and the USD $30 bonus is NOW classified information. There you have it, we don't know who was awarded the lucrative contracts to build and equipt the Chivo ATMs.

That hasn't stopped Nayib Bukele of proudly making Bitcoin related announcements:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/jidE0oI

    https://imgur.com/gallery/p26xqnl

    https://imgur.com/gallery/RdYxP1f

https://imgur.com/gallery/ZtNqni5 (For real, no one knows about the costs of construction)

People are against using Bitcoin as legal tender. They don't care if someone trades Bitcoin/Ethereum/Ada/Shiba/Solana, the people living in El Salvador don't want is as a legal tender. We already went through this with the Dollar, it was utter chaos. Protests are starting to gather more and more attention:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/Fs9Z9G9

    https://imgur.com/gallery/3xtJutO

    https://imgur.com/gallery/HxpJKWR

    https://imgur.com/gallery/tlHMgUO

Trust me, people here are not prepared to use Wallets or trade Bitcoins. You really don't know the situation in El Salvador, where people can take pictures with a smartphone or upload videos but don't know what an email is or how to reply to one. Even worst, old people cannot even understand what a password is. If you think that we "need to educate people about Wallets and Cryptocurrencies because it is the future", well come here and teach Salvadorans from rural areas about how to use a Wallet. Purchase a plane ticket and go to places like Cacaopera, Sesori, Chirilagua, San Alejo, Conchagua, and teach people about 2FA and Wallets.

Don't get me wrong, I am not against Cryptocurrencies. I have in my portfolio BTC, SOL, DODGE, ADA, ETH, and even DOT. I tried teaching people about Wallets, its uses and how easy is to send money across the country or the world. It is not an easy task, and it requires at least two years of educating people.

Finally, I was banned from /r/BTC for saying that people here in El Salvador will be forced to use BITCOIN. This morning, the government announced through a its legal advisor that we are obligated to accept payments in Bitcoins:

Someone just market sold 17 million ADA. Price crashed 9%, all exactly in 2 minutes. Slowly recovering back up.

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 01:03 AM PDT

1 Hour ago, a single person dumped 17 million ADA in a span of 2 minutes. Price dumped 9%, 32M$ in longs got liquidated. That was 100x the normal volume. That was mostly due to most coins are being stacked already an not on exchanges. However, ADA is a strong coin and that dip just got eaten up. Price recovered 7% in just under 5 minutes. RIP those who used leverages. Oh nvm this lead to a heavier dump

I am actually interested what was the point of dumping this volume in so little time. Usually people with big bags sell over time to avoid market slippage.

P.S don't mind me dumping my stacking rewards this epoch, I will give you guys a heads up next time.

I fantasize every day about quitting my job and working for myself or part-time, if I Win at Crypto

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 05:36 PM PDT

I work my ass off in my 9-5, which is really like a 7am-7pm these days in the pandemic. I work remote and have a decent salary, which I'm grateful for. But my company has no resiliency, I have no backup, I haven't taken a true day off in 2 years. My boss is a dumbass. Our CEO died this summer unexpectedly at the age of 43. We are a startup and we are a fucking mess.

The stress is always there, every day. All the people in all the departments are stressed out to the max. People are having health issues, people get fired or quit very frequently. Those who stay have to do more and more each week. We're all burned out and pissed off.

Every day I'm dreaming of a 10x bump in my crypto portfolio. I don't have a lot, so I can't quit yet. And honestly it's the same way with every job that I've had. They all suck. Working for someone, any company or institution, effing blows. It doesn't matter public or private sector. I've done multiple in each and it's the same story. I just want to opt out, but I'm married, and we may have a kid some day.

All I know is, I want flexibility in life. I want to not be trapped. I want to be free in my professional career, to try new things and do what I want. I need a safety net to do that. I'm hoping crypto can do that for me. I think we still have a ways to go in this bull run. I'm hoping by mid next year I can quit my job, and start living the life that I want to live.

Can anyone else relate? Who's with me?

$761,880,000 worth of mainly long positions were liquidated again due to the recent drop last hour. People got too comfortable due to the recent price increase and got rekt. Greed works both ways and can rekt both short and long player's positions.

In last 24h $761,880,000 were liquidated again!

Over 140,000 traders got rekt once again. The market was green for a while and people got greedy.

In the last one hour alone over $213,130,000 were liquidated as well.

Single largest liquidation was worth $6,830,000 dollars.

That sudden drop in price an hour ago must have triggered the cascading effect and triggered stop losses and the domino effect for other traders.

    $761,880,000 wiped in 24 hours.

What's interesting however is the fact that this time around it was mainly long positions that got wiped from the market:

Long vs shorts positions in last 24h.

If you look at 1h chart it was almost all long positions:

Long positions data for the last one hour.

I highly recommend everyone to watch Guy's from CoinBureau latest video about leverage trading and why we shouldn't do it. Not sure if I can link it here so I'll just post the title and you can search for it on YouTube:

Coin Bureau: Leverage: How it Could WRECK Crypto Markets!!!

As always, please don't get greedy, don't use laverage.

After giving multiple misleading excuses for why their app was delayed for so long, the community realizes that something is wrong. They seem to realize that the developers are more than shady and they have been "lied to and toyed with".

See how they are all positively received? This has never ever happened before in their history, they were always censored for telling the truth, now it seems to be reverse.

This is an important historical moment for the world. More and more people are starting to understand the importance of blockchain technology. Congrats to all the hodlers, day traders, institutions, and friends. This is only the beginning. The golden cross is coming. Hold on to your helmets, this spaceship is about to blast off.

I went down the NFT "rabbit hole".. here's what I found out!

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 03:20 AM PDT

So a little like most people here, I have often found myself wondering.. just what the hell is an NFT anyway? How are people making such an absurd amount of money from them? And why would anyone pay millions of dollars for a picture of a rock? Or 50 bucks for the latest Kings of Leon album in NFT form? Am I missing out on a massive opportunity?

So I decided to find out, I was going to do some research and then mint, market, and (hopefully) sell an NFT! Easy right?! WRONG.. Here is my story, a cautionary tale that may teach you all something (or not..)

First off for the uninitiated... what is an NFT? We can describe an NFT as a cryptographic token that defines an asset uniquely. It can represent both a digital asset such as an image, GIF, or piece of digital artwork, but it can also track real-world assets, such as a house or car, or a song, for example.

Using a marketplace like Opensea just about anyone with a little blockchain knowledge (and a wallet) can create and sell one. Now I am no artist, but if you take a look at Opensea you will see that amongst the genuinely impressive artwork on display, there are some very questionable pieces being sold for obscene amounts of money.

So to make this a fair experiment I decided to create 3 different kinds of NFT:

1: A few genuine pieces of art (created by my GF who is indeed a talented artist!): Price: 0.5 - 1 ETH

2: A few pieces of digital art I quickly created myself: Price: 0.025 - 0.05 ETH

3: A set of pixelated "Crypto Calling Cards" (images based on existing generic gaming/sci-fi artwork and ideas) these were pretty basic and at the lower end of quality: Price: 0.01 ETH

I had my images and I was all set to mint! Minting the NFT's themselves was relatively painless apart from the large gas fee. I was surprised to find that there was not a fee for each individual NFT.. but just a one-off fee that allowed you to mint as many as you like!

So my NFT's were out in the world! What next? Well.. nobody knew they existed so I set about attempting to publicise them. Redditt seemed promising but yielded few results, lots of nice messages but no buyers. Instagram did not seem to have much awareness at all of NFT's. For reasons beyond my comprehension Twitter seems to be a hub of NFT activity and interest, so I set about setting up an account to advertise my artworks and interact with willing and eager buyers. Now here is where it gets interesting..

There are literally millions of accounts on Twitter spamming NFT artwork (no surprise there), but there are also thousands and thousands of accounts posing as NFT "buyers", they are extremely similar in style and tone and endlessly post asking to see new NFT's and artwork. Basically, all of these accounts look the same and post extremely similar tweets and similar times of the day, after dropping links to my work on a few of them for days.. I started to receive all kinds of messages, "ahhh!" I thought.. buyers at last?! Not quite..

Message after message invited me to pay THEM to buy my NFT's, some asking hundreds of dollars, some thousands, others $50.. They promised to promote my work after purchasing, to sell them on for larger sums (offering me a cut), and just about everything else you could think of. Now not being desperate to sell anything, I was considered and careful in my response and declined their offers, but it is extremely easy to see how many people could be sucked into this scheme with promises of larger returns and interest for minting a few simple NFT's. After this I reached out to others on Twitter in the community, did anyone else have experience with such people?...

Story after story poured in of people paying these "buyers" with hopes of their NFT's becoming famous, becoming rich, careers taking off and more.. Almost all of them found the buyers had either not purchased their NFT when paid or the buyer had never promoted them as promised. Stories of other artists copying work were rife, nobody I spoke to had a positive or successful story. So it became clear that NFT's are the new "Wild West" of the internet, winner takes all and millions left disappointed and out of pocket. To succeed in the space either requires enormous amounts of luck, or to already possess a high profile. It is of course possible, but the chances for the 99% are slim.

Like just about everything else in Crypto, NFT's are wide open goals to scammers who prey on desperate and naive people. After a few weeks, I felt deflated and demotivated.. Little to no interest had been generated in my NFT's (unsurprisingly!). There were no Lambos and no sales. I could see how any genuine artist could quickly become disillusioned and disappointed, there are some genuinely amazing pieces of art out there and yet millions are paid for a picture of a rock. I gave up promotion and left my NFT's to their unknown fate..

So if you are looking at NFT's wondering how on earth they work, why they work, and how you could make a quick buck.. I hope you have learned from my experiment!

750,000 Evictions predicted as the eviction ban is lifted in the US

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 01:35 PM PDT

These evictions will probably have a large impact on the markets of all kind, but how will it affect the crypto markets?

If the evictions don't pop the real estate bubble I feel like crypto will continue to be seen as a value, a great place to keep money, and a possible hedge against inflation. That could mean a lot of these bullish predictions we've been reading could come to fruition. 100k/20k/etc.

If the Real Estate bubble does pop like it did in 08-09 we may see a crypto exodus as people pile into real estate. We could even see another crypto winter. Real estate and land have become increasingly expensive and scarce the last 3 years or so. There will be a lot of folks who will drop their holdings in the markets to buy some real estate.

Trying to look ahead as we ride this all rising crypto wave right now. It's the moves you make in preparation that make all the difference. The game as they say is won and lost in preparation not by YOLOing. ENJOY YOUR GAINS! but have one eye on your next moves at all times! Have a bronzer weekend Internet friends!

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 08:55 PM PDT

I held BTC and ETH, I love the bull run , BUT

Let's be god damn real, a country using bitcoin as tether?, a currency which halved their value in THIS May and then almost doubled in less than 2 months go? Think about it, it is doom to fail.

Despite the name 'currency'. Bitcoin can only be used as store of value, an investment. Hate me but deep down you guys know I am right.

All I can see here, is a poor country government found a way to hide their corruption through cryptocurrencies and increase their leader popularity to young people.

I live in a poor country, I know the mindset of these 'leader'. I can bet all my money those 'bitcoin ATMs', 'bitcoin banks', 'volcano bitcoin mining rigs' is just bunch of false fads, used to lure people trust and will be abandon.

I don't believe in El Salvador president. A lot of articles link him to corruption. You can easily search it up on google his name, which I can not mention here.

I know I am FUD-ing but keep ignoring the negative is what made big disasters in history.

I know it's alt coins season and there's really no way to tell what coin is going to explode next. However, what coins do you predict is going to do well next? I want to research and look into coins to possibly get before it's too late! (Long and short term)! I made a huge mistake of getting into shitcoins (Shibainu and doge coin) when I first got into crypto this year. Although doge got me interested in crypto, I'm staying far away from shitcoins now. Tell me about coins with real use please!

    Right now I'm thinking

DOT MATIC VET EOS LUNA ALGO

    What am I missing?

What are your opinions and predictions? Of course! I'll do my own research. This will be a good starting point tho!

4% of r/CrytpoCurrency is worth listening to

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 03:58 PM PDT

I did some brief research on r/CryptoCurrency and found that only about 4% of posts on here are actually worth paying attention to if you are actually looking for information that will help you.

I looked at the past 100 top posts for the month, sorted through news articles about celebrities opinions, reddit users "hodl" and "take profits" posts, and various other posts about being early and "banks bad".

Only 4% of those posts were even about tech advancements, like Twitter allowing the addition of public addresses, or actual deep dives on projects. I even considered the coin experiments that some folks do on here.

The point I'm trying to make is this...

Whether you are new to the space or not, it's probably not a good idea to base your investment strategy on this sub unless you really take the time to filter out the noise.

President Nayib Bukele: “El Salvador has just bought it’s first 200 coins. Our brokers will be buying a lot more as the deadline approaches.”

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 01:13 PM PDT

Just announced on his Twitter feed.

Feels like the entire financial world is watching El Salvador this week. Less than 24 hours until Bitcoin becomes legal tender for the first time.

Interesting to see the different perspectives from TradFi as well as the crypto world. I'm hoping it's a smashing success. For El Salvador, for Bitcoin, and for the crypto community around the world.

I wonder what Satoshi would think if he/she/they are still out there. This entire week feels like something out of a movie; if you were to go back 10 years and tell someone this was happening, it would probably seem outrageous.

    ¡Buena suerte El Salvador!

EDIT President Nayib Bukele just tweeted an update:

10 months ago now, I asked Redditors to pick 10 coins off Binance to hold for a year - At the end of the year (coming up soon) I'll distribute whatever coins that were picked to the people who picked them.

Here is the $500 investment now.

XLM was added in place of DOGE after allowing the person who picked it to sell at the very top.

We'll go from the top down this time:

    ETH: - $473.70

    Movin on up!

ETH has looked especially strong this month, almost briefly touching 4k with Bitcoin not touching its all time high yet. Still, with Crypto looking to burn some jet fuel lately, I think we'll probably see another ETH ATH sooner rather than later.

    NANO: - $523.75

Little boring, but up is up.

Moving largely with the market, NANO doesn't seem to have anything really special to report over the summer months, but its graph does look pretty decent lately. Having done over 10x from its November start, I don't think that's really anything to complain about.

    ADA - $1,413.80

    Now that's a bull flag!

Skyrocketing to a new all time high over the last month, ADA fans are ecstatic about the oncoming launch of smart contracts on the platform, along with what is almost certainly an all time high in sentiment for the platform. I remember the launch of ADA back in 2017 when it was $0.02, how time flies.

    VET: $736.29

Rollercoaster of ups and downs, but up in the end.

Seesawing somewhat with the market, VET ended the month almost double what it started, despite having multiple stops and starts along the way. Looking strong heading into a stronger market might make the VET fans hopeful to see a retesting of the all time high just a few short months ago.

    XRP - $289.94

    Riding the wave!

XRP continues to recover from the SEC slapdown it received, rising to levels it hadn't seen since Bitcoin topped out back in March. Not close to retesting its all time fervor high just yet, but if the SEC case goes their way and a Bitcoin rise syncs up with it, XRP fans might be partying sooner than they think.

    IOTA - $371.70

IOTA has arisen from its deep sleep to immense volume once more.

A little sleepy for the last few months, IOTA appears to have gotten a bit coordinated and it's volume has gone sky high in the last week or so. With no project specific news, not exactly sure what the price and volume increase is coming from or relating to, but the project is very close to levels not seen since March and Bitcoin at 65k.

    LTO - $267.30

The LTO train is a bumpy ride.

Holders may be getting a bit of whiplash, but the end result of August is that LTO's value went up, and the project looks to be in recovery mode while moving with the rest of the market. Still a far way off from the huge run up we saw in March, but looking good like the vast majority of the crypto market in the meantime.

    SOL - $5089.93

Ok SOL, no one likes a showoff.

Not content with having a green month almost every single month since September, SOL decided August was the month where it had to 5x in price, because of course it did. SOL's trajectory in the last year has basically looked like a rocketship to the moon, torching holder's hands for 64x gains in the last financial year. Remember to take profits, SOL holders!

    XMR - $140.68

Up, but somehow boring about it.

On the slow gain train is XMR, which is probably the most boring crypto tracked in the challenge. Not once did it ever have a breakout move, and moves primarily with the market always. At least it's private!

    XLM - $29.70

XLM is actually doing really well!

I feel the worst for XLM because it didn't really have a fair shot, being included at what was basically the Bitcoin top as a substitute for DOGE. In order for XLM to break even it would have to hit $0.62 again. It's possible!

The last time the portfolio was tracked, it was at $3436.96 giving us a net gain of of $5899.81 from August to September.

If the $500 (10,000 moons) had been left in moons, they would currently be worth $2380.

If the $500 had been left in BTC (0.0353 * $52,500), it would be worth $1853.25.

The portfolio has once again heavily outperformed both MOON and BTC - Despite both performing exceptionally well over the last year - Moons at almost 5x and Bitcoin at almost 4x - But the portfolio currently averages 18.67x gains. Currently mostly carried by SOL!

Congrats to u/CalculatedLuck for the VET pick, u/Madfires for ADA, and u/arika2411 for SOL. Just like June and July.

In 2 more months, I'll distribute the winnings to people. Hope you enjoyed, and I'll try to do something like this again next year!

Exactly 7 weeks ago most of this sub thought we were in the Bear Market and Bitcoin would crash to $20k (some even thought $10k was possible)

Not even 2 months ago, on July 19th, everyone was freaking out.

    Bitcoin was $30,500

    Ethereum was $1,780

    Polkadot was $11.50

    Chainlink was $15.25

    Solana was $25.50

    Today:

    Bitcoin is $51,500

    Ethereum is $3,930

    Polkadot is $34.50

    Chainlink is $35

    Solana is $160

Things change very quickly in crypto markets. Usually when the media is telling you one thing, you should at least be thinking from a contrarian viewpoint. Something that one boomer said about being greedy/fearful when other's are fearful/greedy ring a bell?

I'm not saying you should sell now. I sold about 20% of my position. I DCA in and DCA out. Good luck. Just wanted to share this perspective as just some weeks ago people thought we were done for and now euphoria is setting back in.

In a speculative market which crypto is, when someone says "Let's all do...", expect the opposite to happen

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 02:53 AM PDT

    — If a sub or a telegram group you're in urges you to "HODL", "Don't give your coins to the whales" and such, they want to cash out at a better price than you.

    — If a sub or a telegram group you're in tells you there's definitely going to be a pump — leave that sub/group immediately, they are actively trying to part you from your money by doing the opposite.

    — And finally, when someone says let's all buy a coin at a certain time, even if they really mean to, there will be a lot of people who will do the exact opposite.

Crypto is a largely speculative asset, big players are looking to make really big money. They are actively trying to outsmart one another. Don't get caught in their games!

Make a strategy that works for you and stick to it.

99.9% of the people who private message you with "hello" or "Hello whats your name" or hillariously "Hello im looking to make friends" are scamming social engineers

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 01:18 AM PDT

If you get private messages from random twats, starting off like "hello, whats your name" or "hello im looking to make friends", dont anwer, unless its to insult their mother, because these twats are social engineering scammers. U have probably mentioned some crypto gains in a conersation and you became a target for them thats why u received a message.

99% of people on reddit dont use private message, that shit is almost scammer exclusive.

Dont get scammed guys, stay vigilent.

ps. fuck this dumb ass rule of minimum characters:

Please Check if You Have This Virus Stealing your Crypto

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 02:06 PM PDT

So I had to move some Monero between exchanges but since i'm paranoid as sh*t i always send a low transaction first to check if it works.

However after 30 minutes it was still not there. Me thinking it was probably some network congestion, I go to sleep. Day after, still not there.

So I perform the same transaction again but this time I really check everything carefully and what's odd is that everytime i copy/pasta the address, a different address is pasted...

After some googlin' i instantly bought premium anti-virus and let it remove everything. There was malware on my pc that changed your clipboard whenever an address was copied, so your XMR is sent to some other person's account.

Please check your address carefully before you send and do invest in decent anti-virus software.

    Stay safe friends!
