Like gold coins it is cash, because there is no custodian. The value comes from the demand to keep a cash balance, and that again comes from usablity for transfers. Only that, since the thing in itself is unreal. The only thing that connects bitcoin to the real world is the timestamp in the block header. BTC and BCH are bitcoins. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is one of the two branches from the 2017 chainsplit, BTC is the other branch. The reason for the split was disagreement over the capacity. As I understand it, all transactions are public on the blockchain, although pseudonymous because the only information you can see about the transaction is the address it came from and where it went. But chain analysis companies have gotten sophisticated enough that they can track down the people behind the addresses. Chainalysis lists the goverment as one of their customers. I hear of CashShuffle as a possible solution for privacy on BCH. But why not build the privacy into layer 1, making it the default? Is there a benefit to having public be the default?
