El Salvador effect: Spain considers allowing mortgage payments in crypto

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 03:03 PM PDT

Today, I finally paid off last of my debts!

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 01:04 AM PDT

Can't tell you how relieved I feel today. I guess only people who were in debt for a long time can relate to this!

I had a long term loan running since last few years due to purchase of a car I couldn't afford at the time but could pay in installments. I am not so bright, don't be me!

Soon after pandemic I had to take a big salary cut or lose the job. So I chose the former. Suddenly, I was not able to pay off my monthly installments. I started taking out huge chunks out of my crypto investment portfolio every month.

I exhausted my portfolio last month. But I just wanted to live debt free no matter how. Had to do the inevitable and sold my moons today. And I did pre-closure of debt few months ago.
The sense of relief is immeasurable. I just hope no one has to live under the trap of debt.

My only regret is I lost all my crypto investments and losing on moons just before mainnet. But oh well!

I won't be a millionaire any time soon but I sure do feel like a million bucks.

I have learned the long term trends of the crypto market so you don't have to; the post I needed when I first got into crypto.

I have learned the long term trends of the crypto market so you don't have to; the post I needed when I first got into crypto.

This is the monthly chart of bitcoin since inception, what patterns we can spot from this graph that help us predict what can happen next?

    • Bitcoin goes through cycles, in which bitcoin have phases where prices go parabolic (bull-runs), then it is followed by a correction (bear market).
    • As you can see, Bitcoin grow logarithmically with time.

    Bitcoin cycles since inception

    • Cycles tend to extend over time, meaning that each cycle will take more time than the previous cycle.

    Bitcoin cycles extend through time

    • Bitcoin return on investment decrease over time.

Bitcoin ROI from market cycle bottom

If you think about it, it actually make sense to have diminishing returns and lengthening cycles. It takes more time and money to move bitcoin from 10k-100k than it takes to move bitcoin from 10$-100$ although it is the same increase in percentage.

    What triggers a bull-run?

Usually, the bitcoin halving event triggers increase in price over a long time frame due to the scarcity of the available asset. However, There is a "Golden Cross" that triggers a bull-market. Which is when the 50-day exponential moving average cross over the 200-day exponential moving average. That is usually a bullish signal when given that these exponential moving averages holds as support.

    2012 Golden Cross

    2015 Golden Cross

    2020 Golden Cross

Most of these information I learned through YouTube, specifically a guy named Benjamin Cowen. You guys can search him up his channel is really helpful. All credits to him.

This post is to state the long term trends of the crypto asset class, previous trend doesn't guarantee the continuation of these trends. it is not a financial advice. Edit : Thank you so much for the awards, kind people.

Just because were investing doesnt mean were gonna be millionaires some day.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 03:38 PM PDT

I know most of you maybe be aware of this already but sadly i have some friends who believe their $100-200 dollar investments will make them future millionaires when realistically that probably won't happen. Were all going to make money but unfortunately you have to have money already to make those huge bags. Even if ethereum were to hit 5k or 10k by the end of this year, if you only invested $100-200 you won't be seeing a lambo or even a new car. It makes me sad but its the kinda truth when people say you have to have money to make money. Regardless I'm still going to keep investing and whatver i make im still going to make be happy about.

Crypto investing can get a little serious sometimes, so I thought we could have a bit of fun today!

I want to know your secret Crypto investment strategy! But here's the catch, you have to tell me in 5 words or less

Let's see what you can come up with, and we'll all be smarter as a result!

Stop whatever you are doing and review the following! You may thank me later!

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 12:24 PM PDT

So the last 24 hours was awful. And it's shocking to learn someone who follows processes as much as I do lost his Reddit account, and almost lost his vault.

Hey all, this is your captain speaking. So yesterday was the first time in 6 months my phone booted me out of Reddit. Was completely random, and having not really thought about it since my account's inception, I was disturbed to find out none of my standard passwords (or their variations for that matter) worked. No big deal, I'll have them email me a password reset!

… and I sent a request to my email. Nothing. Nada.

…okay but hey I've GOTTA be able to retrieve my account by phone number or something right?

Narrator: "He would in fact, not be right."

Apparently, when you set up your phone account via Reddit, they don't require an email or anything. Apparently, I had to back it up in the settings, and I just had glossed over that. Probably because I came to Reddit to learn about the GME blow up, and actually found out about r/cryptocurrency like a month later. And opened my vault a month after that. After two months of auto signing in, you don't even think about things like backup.

FUCK. What about my 10k moons?!

Thank GOODNESS I had written my seed phrase down. I'll just have Reddit team verify the seed phrase is linked to my account and…

Noopppppee. Right. It doesn't work that way.

Several hours of attempted work around later and I find out that I can in fact send the moon from my old vault to this new (AND BACKED UP!!) account's vault. All I need to do is download meta mask and set it up for the Ethereum Testnet and create the wallet for a specialized token and… oh… oh you have to delete and reinstall metamask and…

Does this sound -awful- to you yet?

Needless to say, I'm creating a hard set of passwords and testing all of them for all my accounts, along with resetting my email passwords and backing them up via 2fa too.

Sometimes crypto can be really fucking stomach churning. Special shout outs to u/Nanooverbtc (yes, the mods absolutely deserve their moons) and the two guys who helped me figure this crap out yesterday. There are some -heroes- on this sub.

Some things still suck. I lost my Reddit coins, as well as a free 3 month (I think) premium upgrade, and I posted -a lot- this round. So yes fellow mooners, probably a good 3k more moons lost to a dead vault. But hey, that's crypto right? TL:DR

    -Back your crap up

    -Back up your backups

-Never assume anything tied to your coins

    -Elon still sucks

    -Safemoon is still a Ponzi.

-Fuck Robin Hood with a pointy steel-toed boot covered in Dire Ants

EDIT: THANK YOU FOR ALL THE AWARDS AND KARMA! YOU ALL THE REAL MOON MVPS!

With Ethereum's "London" hardfork coming tomorrow, I took a look at a list of all the upgrades coming with it.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:42 AM PDT

On Aug. 4 at block 12,965,000, the London Hard Fork will go live on the Ethereum main network when a series of five protocol updates called EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals) are deployed.

EIP 1559: This is the biggest of the upgrades and ironically the easiest to summarize. It's a proposal to make Ethereum transactions more efficient by using a hybrid system of base fees and tips to more evenly incentivize miners in periods of high and low network congestion.

EIP-3198: As a companion to EIP-1559, it adds an opcode, BASEFEE, which returns the value of the base fee for the block it is executed in. This will enable smart contracts to access this value on chain, which can help with submitting fraud proofs and creating trustless gas price derivatives.

EIP-3529: Another significant change introduced in London is the removal of gas refunds from SELFDESTRUCT and reduction of refunds for SSTORE. While the refunds were originally intended to incentivize developers to clear the state when possible, in practice they have led to an increased state size with the invention of Gas Tokens. Using these refunds, Gas Tokens can fill up the state when gas prices are low and then get refunds for the execution of transactions when gas prices rise.

EIP-3541: This is a "simple" change which lays the groundwork for broader Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) improvements, described in EIP-3540. This EIP will make it impossible for new contracts starting with the 0xEF byte to be deployed. Once London is live, the shortest sequence of bytes starting with 0xEF which does not match the starting sequence of existing contracts could then be reserved as a way to identify contracts which comply with EIP-3540 semantics.

EIP-3554: This proposal delays the difficulty bomb, which is a mechanism that was introduced in Ethereum to "freeze" mining as the network transitions to proof of stake. Given that the proof of stake transition is not yet ready, they have decided to delay when the bomb will "go off". The current delay has been set to December 1st.

No, Spain is not considering mortgages payments in crypto.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 01:15 AM PDT

I've seen this headline thrown a lot in some crypto subs. The reality is much diferent however. The proponent of the bill is the right wing party (Partido Popular), and has the same chance of passing of Shiba hitting 1$. Unfortunately this proposal is being used as an attack to the party in power (PSOE) in a sensitive matter in Spain, mortgages, as the country got hitted hard during the housing crisis of 2008. Don't be fooled by headlines and always DYOR.

I am pretty young (early 20's) and my job doesn't pay much so my bags are relatively small, however the knowledge I've gained from crypto about money, currencies, economies, inflation, the value of memes, scams, etc is something I'll have for the rest of my life.

By doing my own research and actually taking the time to learn what this new thing is, I've set myself up for a new path of managing my own money beyond smoking weed with it and buying almost exclusively experiences.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 02:08 AM PDT

Paraphrasing well-known gambling problem markers, here are 10 signs you might have a problematic relationship with cryptocurrencies:

    3. Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut down on crypto purchases/trading
    4. Trading to escape problems or relieve feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety or depression
    5. Trying to get back lost money by trading more (chasing losses)
    6. Lying to family members or others to hide the extent of your trading
    7. Jeopardizing or losing important relationships, a job, or school or work opportunities because of trading
    8. Resorting to theft or fraud to get trading money

Shitposting for Humanity, Donate NOW. Send your used smart devices to impoverished families in 3rd world nations, and teach them how to shitpost and mine memecoins to provide a higher standard of living than their nation's average. Jokes aside, with Reddit Moons priced above 30 cents, this makes shitposting on reddit more profitable than day-long grueling work in poor conditions. We've reached a milestone where the decentralization of financial systems can be used to leverage the most impoverished people on earth. While the Top continues to divide the Bottom through false left/right political paradigms, crypto distributes power back to the lower echelons of society, and paves the way for a new horizon out of the centralized deathgrip which Governments have on financial systems. This isn't regular gpu mining, this is a global decentralized network of people coming together to perform 'work' only a sentient being can perform. The possibilities are limitless on how this business model can evolve and be applied to different usecases. New social media platforms will emerge where the user is rewarded for their participation, instead of companies like Facebook and Twitter claiming ownership and profits from your data, which is then provided to governments across the world to be used against their citizens.

I bought $500 of 'meme/shit' coins from Reddit WEEK #3 UPDATE - USELESS DOWN -50%, SAFEMOON DOWN -40%

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 02:43 PM PDT

I bought $500 of 'meme/shit' coins from Reddit WEEK #3 UPDATE - USELESS DOWN -50%, SAFEMOON DOWN -40%

    First post
For my own personal entertainment only.

So I bought 5 meme coins for $100 each to find out whether these comedic coins are gonna survive the long run or not.
I didn't do any further research, I only ruled out the obvious rug pulls and selected those 5 BSC tokens based on popularity in the past few days, weeks. These are SafeMoon, Useless Token, Thoreum, Ping and CleanOcean.

WEEK #3 UPDATE - FINALLY SOME BIG LOSERS

Okay, Sonar is still doing great.

I've been waiting for this moment. I wanted to lose to show what newbies experience after investing in some tokens advertised on f\cking Reddit.* And now, USELESS dropped 50%, SafeMoon dropped 40% (even without the ridiculously high slippage). Although, I have to state that

I AM NOT HERE TO DISPARAGE NOR RIDICULE THIS WEEK'S LOSERS.

What's your opinion about the losers?
How low they can go? Will I ever profit from the losers?

$131 billion worth of BTC moved yesterday but only 1% from exchange deposits/ withdrawals. Massive OTC deals going on.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 01:29 AM PDT

According to CryptoQuant data, OTC trading volume yesterday was 99% and overall exchange volume was just 1%.

This usually means some very big players are taking positions. Make of that what you will. This is happening at the same time exchange balances are at all-time lows.

Fund flow ratio is the ratio of BTC trading across centralized exchanges to BTC volume observed on the blockchain. When this number goes down, it means P2P, OTC deals are going up.

    BTC fund flow indicator

The last time fund flow ratio for all exchanges dropped so low was in October 2020, weeks before BTC reached a new ATH and started to go parabolic. 7.5 million BTC was transferred recently on chain as BTC crossed 40k, almost twice as high as October.

”Just because were investing doesnt mean were gonna be millionaires some day” This is wrong, YOU can be a millionaire rant.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:56 PM PDT

I saw a post talking about that you should not expect to be a millionaire one day and you likely wont be. This is wrong, you can be a millionaire, of course theres some needs and steps for it but it is more than possible.

Most of people think million is a lot and an unachievable amount of money when its really not(of course there are some countries where even a 100 is a life changing amount of money but we are talking in general) There are more than 50 million millionaires in the entire world, 20 million in the United States alone, so why wouldnt u be one oneday.

Lets talk about some interest rates and monthly DCA:ing. If you were to put a $1000 monthly to a stakeable crypto with an 10% interest rate, it would take 23 years to achieve a million dollars.

    $2000 monthly for 17 years: a million.

    $500 monthly for 29 years: a million.

    $200 monthly for 38 years: a million.

    $100 monthly for 45 years: a million.

(this is the total value of your investment in the timeline with total contributions added, of course there are price swings etc. which affect the total amount but these are not added to these numbers.)

Sounds like a long time but it really is not when the average retirement age in the world is 67 years. Achieving your first million is not hard it just takes time, patience and some contribution to it.

Be happy with your investment and dont let others bring you down or shoot down your dreams, your position is perfect and you are doing a great job DCA:ing

So I had some tokens on xDai Chain which I swapped to LINK in order to cash out because I have to finance a family emergency, which unfortunately has bigger expenses than my FIAT savings, so I sold my moons and planned to cash out on other reserves too...

Because of the stress I didn't check which network will I use to send the LINK to my Binance LINK deposit address and submitted the request on the ERC20 network... So my funds are gone...

Please always send a small test amount first and make sure to use the correct network to avoid mistakes like this. Especially people who are new here. Famous Bitcoin Addresses and Transactions

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 02:44 PM PDT

These are pieces of history anyone can view, stored forever on the most secure network in the world. One of the coolest part about the blockchain being an open, decentralized and immutable ledger is that you can look back into the past at snapshots of very special moments. Here are some famous bitcoin addresses and transactions that involve turning points in the evolution of the currency, or are related to important people or events:

    • The Genesis Block - The first ever Bitcoin block, mined by Satoshi on Jan 9, 2009. Hundreds of Bitcoin enthusiasts continue to show their appreciation by transferring small amounts of BTC to the same address. As of Aug 19, 2020, there was a total of 68.33526331 BTC logged at the address.

    • Satoshi's only transaction - This, as far as we know, is the only known address Satoshi ever spent coins from and sent 10 BTC to Hal Finney.

    • The "Bitcoin Pizza" transaction - On May 22 every year, crypto enthusiasts all over the world celebrate the anniversary of "Bitcoin Pizza Day" by eating pizza? The trend began when Laszlo Hanyecz ordered and paid for two pizzas with 10,000 BTC. This was the first Bitcoin transaction in the real world. Based on the Aug 3, 2021 BTC value of approx. $38,000, that single pizza would be worth around $382 million!

    • Largest transaction ever - apparantly the single largest transaction ever (550,000 BTC)

    • Silk Road seized hot wallet coins - The address of the seized hot wallet coins belonging to the users of the infamous Silk Road dark net marketplace.

    • Ross Ulbricht (DreadPirateRoberts) personal BTC stash - The personal stash of the infamous Silk Road dark net marketplace founder Ross Ulbricht. Now seized by the FBI.

    • MT.GOX "proof of assets" transaction - When bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox was struggling to stay afloat prior to their infamous collapse, then CEO Mark Karpeles wanted to prove that Mt.Gox was financially sound. To do so, he performed one of the biggest and most risky bitcoin transactions ever. The transaction was from Mt.Gox to Mt.Gox, but regardless it was sent over the bitcoin network to the tune of 442,000 bitcoins.

    • December 6, 2013: Bitcoin accepted as payment for Tesla Model S - According to a news report about Lamborghini Newport Beach car dealership in California, they sold a Tesla Model S electric car for 91.4 bitcoins, or $103,000 at the time of purchase. The transaction was handled by payment processor BitPay, said Cedric Davy, marketing director for the Costa Mesa, California based dealership. The dealership has never accepted bitcoin directly, but BitPay's merchant processing service allowed the buyer to use bitcoin as a form of payment, which was converted into USD once the transaction was complete.

    • One of the richest entities - This transaction links 9 addresses each holding 66,000+ BTC that most definitely belong to the same entity (lets hope not a single person) and the 10th address in the blockchain with the same characteristics is likely part of that. This would imply that a single entity holds over 660,000 Bitcoins.

    • The U.S. Marshal's Auction - When the online black market Silk Road was shut down, the U.S. government seized roughly 144,000 bitcoins. In what was a three-part auction, the first auction of coins was sold to venture capitalist and entrepreneur Tim Draper which was for 30,000 bitcoins, worth $19 million USD at the time.

    • Very old Bitcoins - This address holds almost 80,000 Bitcoins and has never been touched since the deposit in early 2011

Have I missed any important transactions? If you know any that I failed to mention please comment it on this thread! Hope you enjoy this little peak into history.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 10:10 PM PDT

    Facts-

    1. BTC and ETH safest to invest in.

    2. Moons are big if they stay. The only catch is a massive Rugpull that reddit is capable of.

    3. Newbies who are planning to day trade don't really fare well.

    4. DCA, Buy the Dips and HODL.

    5. Crypto is a long term game. It's not just to make people hold, as of now, crypto is barely in its early teenage years.

    6. If you're in for long term, you may as well stake! Compound Interest is magical when it's for profit.

    7. Don't let the dips scare you and the massive greens excite you too much. u/hotdogbitchface sold his moons for 0.16$ in the same lunar month, we've watched Moons at 0.40$ too.

    8. Don't get into pump and dump groups, don't buy shady shit.

    9. IMPORTANT. Security! Secure your accounts with MFA, store everything safely. The world is scary. Stay safe

    10. Don't forget to hydrate. Crypto can sometimes take you to dark places.

    u/willingfact addition

    1. We don't know shit about fuck.

    2. Buy the fucking dip (BTFD).

    SPECULATIONS

    1. ETH will get bigger than BTC very soon

    2. Sub has vampires that do not sleep. But not to worry, platform is virtual so we're all safe.

    3. Mods will Rugpull us. NO. MODS ARE HERE FOR THE COMMUNITY! NO MOD CAN STOOP SO LOW.

My experience says this sub has the saltiest and the nicest people ever. They'll throw you down and stomp on you when you say shit, other times they'll pick you up award you a platinum and moons when you're low. Between the fiat mining, pandemic and this stage in life, this sub is the best thing that could have happened and it was timed so perfectly.

TLDR- if you need one, this post is not for you. Also, Love you all

EDIT = I think by now you all know to Do your own research!

    1. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH

    What’s your (realistic) crypto end-goal?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 02:58 AM PDT

I know we all want Lambos and yachts and private islands.

But unfortunately a lot, maybe most, of us won't get to THAT Point this late in the game.

So, I'm interested to know what your crypto end-goal is that's a bit more modest and grounded? For me, I'd be over the moon with a small deposit for a modest home and enough to take care of my (future) family. If I had enough to gift a small amount of money to my parents, I would be over the moon(s).
