Central Banker who Called Bitcoin "Scam" and "Corrupt" was hit with Corruption Charges in several European Countries: Kinda Ironic?

If you have fewer than 10moons, I'll tip you one!

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 04:30 AM PDT

Hi everyone! I joined this sub a while ago and was tipped a moon by a kind user on this sub. I earned some moons and I'd like to donate them to new users, or users with fewer than 10moons.

I know moons are going up in value, and i hope the donations can help the moon farmers who really need it! Especially the ones in third world countries, or anyone who really needs it.

Also, i don't have that many moons, so i might run out quick lmao

Come say hi newbies! Hope this isnt against the rules of the sub!

Edit; I think I'll run out moons before i get everyone. Im sorry if you didnt get one. Im getting those who commented earlier.

The Bitcoin golden cross is forming and will take place in mid-September, the first time in 1.5 years. This time it may ignite the bull cycle which takes us to $100,000 BTC.

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 12:08 AM PDT

So you've probably heard a bunch already about the Bitcoin golden cross, this is when the 50 day moving average (DMA) crosses above the 200 day moving average. Others are calling for it in just days or hours but this is incorrect because the 50 DMA is crossing the 100 DMA right now, not 200 DMA. However, Bitcoin is on track to have the 50 DMA cross the 200 DMA in mid-September.

The last time this happened was in May 2020 which led to the price of BTC going from $8,000 to a peak of $64,800 (a +700% bull cycle). That bull cycle recently ended with the big crash a couple of months ago in May 2021. We also saw a death cross (bearish opposite of golden cross) in June 2021 which led to the price dropping from $41,300 to the low of $28,800 (-30% bear cycle).

That bear cycle is ending as we speak and a new golden cross should form in mid-September which could propel BTC's price to the $80,000+ range and finally hit the big $100,000 price point people have been yearning for awhile now. It should happen around late Late January 2022 to early March 2022. So if you're feeling bullish on Bitcoin's recent history-making rally and upcoming golden cross you should still buy now and HODL, not in Sept or Oct when the new bull cycle is well underway. Let's keep this train rolling!

PS. I just noticed it's my 12th Cake Day! Shared with automod who is only 9, I'm older than auto mod haha. To celebrate my 12th Cake Day I bought some Bitcoin for the upcoming golden cross!

Any way to earn $20 a week in crypto? (from a third world country)

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 08:54 AM PDT

Greetings folks, I'm from Lebanon where the minimum wage is now less then $40 due to hyperinflation.

I'm one of the lucky ones to earn a salary of around $90 as a graphic designer, however I think there's a lot of opportunity in the crypto space to earn some supplementary income.

Banks are dysfunctional here, so I can't make use of freelance websites.

Also I feel guilty and gross when "mining" moon on this sub so that's out of the equation I think for now.

    Thanks in advance!

WARNING! PETA (animal activists organization) is going after Bitcoin!

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 01:40 PM PDT

PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) has just issued a statement in which they criticize Bitcoin and demand it to be shut down:

"It has come to our attention that Bitcoin has been massacring bears for weeks. This has to stop! Bears are now on the brink of extinction. We will not tolerate this and we demand Bitcoin to either immediately stop massacring bears or to be shut down".

The statement was issued by a shirtless member of PETA this afternoon.

Getting into crypto around the ATH has had the benefit of making me patient and not expecting 1000x gains overnight. Anyone else feel the same?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 11:01 PM PDT

I'm only just breaking into the green during this last week, and I'm ecstatic. I have no wild dreams of one of my crypto investments mooning overnight and becoming a millionaire. If I make a profit in 5 years - a better one than I would by keeping my money in a savings account - I will be happy. It has made me patient and realistic.

Anyone else in the same boat?

What to do if you randomly received millions worth of crypto seemingly as a mistake?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 02:26 PM PDT

Theoretically, if you woke up to your wallet now going from 3 to 7 digits worth overnight through a random transaction, what would you do? Assumingly as the result of an error from someone else, what steps would you do to try (or not) and keep this coin and remain anonymous to the sender and everyone around you?

This is strictly hypothetical, of course

Crypto won't reach mainstream until safety and simple use/storage comes

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 12:05 AM PDT

"Not your keys, not your coins - Keep your coins in a cold wallet. Exchanges are not safe"

Honestly, do you believe that an average Joe is going to get into crypto with processes like this? Getting a seed phrase you have to memorize, put in a bank vault or hide it in a super advanced way? No way. Sending from account to account is a heart pounding experience.

It either becomes drastically easier, or no mainsteam. The good news is, there will be innovations on this part sooner or later, and we are still early in the game.

Unpopular opinion: It’s not bad to keep your coins in an exchange

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 01:28 PM PDT

For some people the chances of them losing their private keys is higher than the exchange getting hacked.

Of course, storing your crypto on a wallet is better if you are able to manage it well.

If not, then keeping your coins in an exchange is not a bad idea.

But there is one important rule you must know: Never use RobbingHood

My recipe for success in crypto after 8 years

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 01:14 PM PDT

So I'm pretty much a whale by now after 8 years in crypto. I started with nothing but a normal source of income and I didn't strike lucky on a megapump or anything like that. Just steady profit taking and a simple rule I never break.

If anyone wants to play the long and safe game, here's how I play it (initially shared in comments, then people asked me to share it)

    • I sell 20% of my bag after 40% profit, as a hard rule. Then I DCA back in during dips and bear markets using my main source of income and post-tax staking rewards. Works reliably every time. It's worth rewriting that as "taking profit, but still with 80% of the portfolio intact"
    • The 40% profit level is usually hit 2-3 times during bull runs, but sometimes only 1. Profits end up in a composite index fund, and I prepay taxes.
    • I'm fairly diversified (around 30 coins), with a mix of oldcoins, solid midcap projects and a few microcaps. I do a lot of research and immerse myself into the communities of most of these coins. If something starts to smell bad, I sell immediately.
    • I stake whenever I can, some coins are up to 20% APY without lockup. This is now a significant stream of passive income.
    • I completely ignore fads and shitcoins. Just solid projects with a good plan.

Key takeaways: I make no attempt to time the market, and "hodling" across bull runs is not effective (I get to enjoy a high compounding interest on my profits during multiyear bear markets, and it's a hedge against crypto being taxed or regulated into oblivion)

This is a powerful strategy. You get to have high risk crypto exposure, yet benefit from the magic of compounding interest in low risk fiat instruments.

You think you've seen it all until you find out an NFT of a potato sold for $1,000,000

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 12:41 AM PDT

    Today I sold.

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 11:19 AM PDT

    But not all!

Today i have to sold 20% of all my crypto. I sold the crypto because i wanted to buy a house for my future family (right now it's just me and my fiancee), and the money that i get selling only 20% is more than enough, but its enough because of the crypto world, because i trsut in some good projects that grown on the past. The amount of money that i get by selling was much more than all the money i put on crypto. Just wanted to say this, and i won't sell the remaining any time soon (maybe if i have a kid to come, but that's is for the future!).

So, just thank you for this community, it was here that i learned so much about crypto, and made this possible.

P.S: So sorry for the crap English, not main language.

Edit: Thank you for all the comments. Yep, I'm really happy with my decision, and I will not leave the crypto world at all.

P.S2: why so many downvotes? People here really doesn't like anyone to sell right? LOL.

A free NFT for all :)

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 06:32 PM PDT

EDIT: The NFT giveaway has now ended. If I missed anyone in the comments, I will make sure to send you one. A huge THANK YOU for everyone's kind words and encouragement. I will be doing something similar in the very near future... so if you missed out now don't worry!

I would like to contribute to this community and bring awareness to the Algorand blockchain so I made a series of Algorand NFT's for you guys. If this is the first time using the Algorand blockchain, you will have to follow a few steps.

    1. Install an Algorand Wallet app. My recommendation is "Algorand Wallet".
    2. Open the App and select "Add new asset".
    3. Add assets 302940841, 302946911, 303005657 (just added) and 270073047 (all claimed). This will cost 0.2 Algo to do.
    4. Send me your Alrogand address and I will randomly send you 1 of 3 of the NFTs.

You can type in the asset numbers on randgallery.com to view the NFTs. If you are a Shit poster, I made a special one for you!

I thought I'll have a regular job my whole life. Then I was introduced to crypto. Now I'll still work a regular job my whole life, but at least I invest in something for my future

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 03:00 AM PDT

Like most of us in here, I dream of retiring early and being able to drive in my blue Lambo down the street while playing arabic trap music to the maximum, to flex on my haters, but:

In reality, you can't quit your job even after a 5x profit on your coin! Say you put in 2000$, you will have 10000$ after a 5x, right? 8000$ profit.

    - In USA, the average monthly expenses are 1000$, so with the profit you made, you can only live roughly 10 months care-free.

    - In Germany and Italy, the average monthly expenses are 850 Euros, so about 1000$ once again. Only 10 months of "freedom". If you live in a cheaper country, good for you!

Those are just estimated expenses. You could use less/more money to live. But anyway, is it enough? Think about it. Especially if you have a whole family that relies on your financial support.

Unfortunately, we still need our paychecks from the boring and annoying 9-5 jobs we all work. We can't rely on profit money we make from speculative assets. Fiat mines suck but we need them.

In my opinion, having a job + DCA-ing into promising projects is the way to go. I put a few % of my monthly salary away so I can DCA daily/weekly into my favorite projects.

I am investing for my future, so I'll be hodling my coins for years. Only after many years of investing, I dream of having enough money made from crypto to be financially free and retire early. Average retirement age worldwide is 64 years for men and 63 for women. I don't know about you, but working until 64 years doesn't sound so pleasant to me.

I know you guys are used to hopium type of posts, but I wanted to bring a little bit of realism in here as well. What do you guys think? Is crypto really the best escape from 9-5 hell? What are your plans?

Forbes - Institutional Money Is Pouring Into The Crypto Market And Its Only Going To Grow

Is there anything that would STOP you investing in crypto?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 01:28 AM PDT

You are all obviously here for a reason and the most prolific posters are either moon farmers or have strong opinions, but there are also a lot of less vocal people who either haven't yet invested or are at varying stages of their investments.

My question to all of you is whether there would be anything that would stop you investing in crypto? A life event, a political event, you get your lambo/house and then you are out?

I feel that I have fairly limited exposure as I haven't YOLOd or FOMOd so I would probably only cash out what I have if I were in dire financial straits and needed access to the relatively small amount I have in...

    The Moonfarmer pointing fingers

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 04:35 AM PDT

A user has been going around to every post and accusing them of moon farming. I didn't notice at first but then it became obvious he's just copy pasting the same comment. I've compiled a little list. This is in the past 24 hours:

    Example 1

    Example 2

    Example 3

    Example 4

    Example 5

    Example 6

    Example 7

    Example 8

    Example 9

    Example 10

    Example 11

    Example 12

    Example 13

    Example 14

    Example 15

    Example 16

    Example 17

    Example 18

Like mate, every single post and comment on this sub is a 'moon farming opportunity'. A lot of the posts you reply to are high quality. It's alright to moon-farm as long as your contributing good content to the sub. All you contribute is the same copy pasted comment 20 times. A low quality moon-farmer. Fucking hypocrite.

    I'm an addict

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 06:45 PM PDT

I've been an addicted to one substance or another since middle school. It started with energy drinks and weed, then alcohol and pills, and eventually I ended up down a dark path. I hit rock bottom in my late 20s, found myself homeless and friendless with nowhere to turn.

Today, I'm one week sober, it's a long road ahead of me, but I feel like myself again for the first time since I can remember.

Every day I buy a little bit of crypto with money that I would have spent on drugs and alcohol. It's not alot, just a couple dollars a day, but the routine of buying is somehow therapeutic.

Being an addict is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life, but crypto gives me something to channel that addiction into that might actually improve my life someday.

I just wanted to say thank you to this community of wonderful people, I love you all so much.

The last bear market completely rekt me. Chasing moonshots is just as bad as leverage trading. There is no substitute for learning fundamentals.

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 03:49 AM PDT

So in 2017 I aped into several altcoins which got hyped as the next big thing. Bought into a bunch of ICOs which frankly sounded too good to be true thinking about it.

I got blinded by bull market and didn't do enough research into fundamentals. Some of the coins lost over 95 to even 99% value and never recovered.

Neblio was one that taught me a big lesson because the hype seemed so real and convincing. Next gen proof of stake enterprise blockchain, web 3.0, scarce supply, all the buzzwords.

The most hyped coins from 4 years ago are either out of the top 50 or completely dead.

Most of those coins were like private companies. They sold tokens to raise money and used the money on heavy marketing instead of development.

Truly decentralized coins like BTC, LTC, XMR are not companies. I saw some solid decentralized projects in 2017 but they got buried by hype coins. It's sad that coins which try to grow organically have no chance because of this culture.

ICX, Verge, Zilliqa, IOTA, NEBL, NEM, DASH, Neo, Qtum, Lisk, Ardor, Nano, BTS, OMG, BCN, BTG, STEEM, PPT, EOS, TRX.

Believe it or not some of these coins were top 10, even some were top 5 and almost all of them were top 20 for a time and flying high. People who bought them were absolutely convinced these coins were the next Bitcoin.

I even bought ETH near the top for 0.105 BTC from all the flippening memes same as now and it never happened. ETH crashed 95% in BTC value during the bear market of 2018-19. ETH is up in fiat value but still 35% down in terms of BTC value so I'm still hodling it waiting for 0.105 BTC break even.

To me everything that's going on now in alt markets seems like deja vu. We're reliving the same chaos of the bull market like 4 years ago.

The difference is instead of ICO, cryptokitties, enterprise blockchains we have now centralized DeFi, NFT and meme coins.

Many of these coins at the top now will fall away in bear market and may never recover just like some of the coins above.

At least 4 years ago ICO sellers needed a solid whitepaper full of promises and roadmap. But now memecoins created in 5 seconds on binance chain are pumping left and right. The level of capital misallocation is really dangerous.

I think NFT has some use cases but if it will be practical we have to see. For sure the use case is not using pixelated jpegs for money laundering.

Same with DeFi but CeFi has no long term use case. Just calling it DeFi doesn't make it decentralized. We need to make sure it's actually decentralized.

Since people are making money we are all unconcerned now and everyone will protect and shill their own coin.

But the music will stop and everything will lose more than 90% value against BTC when bear market comes. Remember that only coins with solid fundamentals will recover next time.

Altcoin holders are retailers with paper hands who buy coins based marketing hype hoping for moonshots. Retail always buys high and sells low without caring about fundamentals. This is the reason many altcoins are bad for long term hodling.

Tl;dr Hype never lasts. Only fundamentals will last. Please research fundamentals. Get well educated about your investment, avoid greed and avoid the same mistakes I made in the last bull market which was buying into hype without studying fundamentals. Over diversification is frankly a very bad idea. Focus on few well researched solid picks.

Explained: the rules for earning karma/MOONs

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 04:23 AM PDT

I often encounter confusion over how karma/MOONs are earned, so I've clarified the rules below.

    Current Rules:

    1. 100% bonus karma for comments

e.g.: Posts with 25 upvotes = 24 karma (excluding the automatic self up-vote)

    Comments with 25 upvotes = 48 karma.

    2. 20% bonus karma for HODLers

Any user who holds the MOONs they gained from the previous distribution will receive a 20% bonus - applied to the monthly karma earned toward the next round i.e.:

Let's imagine in June, you received 600 MOONs - giving you a total of 850 (because you earned some in May too).

Originally, to qualify for the 20% bonus in the following month - July - you needed to maintain a vault MOON balance of at least 600 MOONs i.e. you could move or spend 250 MOONs. You are now, however, allowed to tip up to 100 MOONs without losing the 20% bonus.

To emphasise: the 20% bonus is applied to the karma earned within the round i.e. if you earned 5000 karma, you will receive MOONs based on 5000*1.2 = 6000 karma. It does not apply to MOONs you already hold. When the distribution spreadsheet is posted each month, all bonuses are already included.

    3. 5% bonus karma for voters

Any user who participates in governance (i.e. votes in at least one poll) will receive a 5% bonus - applied to the karma earned within the round (as above). Governance polls are posted during MOON week - the week following the snapshot. Check the dates here: Link

    4. 1k karma limit

The maximum karma that can be earned (when considering MOONs) from any single post or comment is 1000.

    5. Posts using the COMEDY or MEDIA flair earn 90% less karma

e.g.: a COMEDY or MEDIA post with 1000 upvotes = 99 karma. This does not apply to the comments within. There is a further cap of 500 MOONs per post. So a COMEDY or MEDIA post with 20,000 upvotes = 500 MOONs, not 1k as with other flairs.

    6. Monthly limit of 15k Karma

The maximum amount of karma considered for MOONs is 15k within any given round.

    Upcoming Rules:

    1. No karma for removed posts or comments

Karma earned from posts or comments removed by moderators will be disqualified and not considered for MOONs. Posts or comments are removed when rules are broken e.g.: if you've posted more than 3 times in 24h. Please review the community rules here: Link

Note 1: this does not apply to comments made within removed posts. Those will still receive karma/MOONs, so long as they were not also removed.

Note 2: this does not apply to comments or posts you, yourself, have deleted.

It has not yet been confirmed when this rule will be activated, but it'll likely apply to Round 17 i.e.: it's retroactively applied now and will apply to all content from Aug 4th onward.

    Unwritten Rules:

Please be kind, courteous, helpful and do not repost or steal content. If you'd like to see what happens to people who frequently steal content or spam, look here: Link
