Do miners make more off all crypto dips? or just ETH

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 07:33 AM PDT

So I understand from a basic level that when ethereum drops in price the "gas" goes up for miners, making our profits rise for a bit due to the number of transactions on the blockchain. But, does that work for any other coin you mine? or are the blockchains and the way they work a bit different? If it's not all crypto mining that works like that, are there any other coins that do work similarly to ethereums "gas"

    I need an advice.

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 07:05 AM PDT

I'm currently unemployed but i have couple of thousands to invest. I dont see my self getting employed anytime soon because of my circumstances and the country i live in. I have a very cheap electricity, and a lot of free time. Do you advise me to start mining? What cards do you suggest? When should i buy? Now or later? Please consider in your response ETH 2.0 and how it could possibly affect me as a new miner. I want someone to give me answers that can possibly generate me a passive income even if it was 500$ a month.

    Thank you for your time!

My guide to gpu mining :)

My guide to gpu mining :)

How to Mine Cryptocurrency for Noobs (July 2021)

    Checking GPU and Coin Profitability

Mining cryptocurrency can be intimidating at first but once you understand how it works it is very easy. There are two ways to mine. You can use a one-click miner or mine directly to a pool. I HIGHLY recommend the second as you will understand mining and how it works more clearly, and you maximize profits. The first thing you need to do is find a profitable GPU. You can use this website to see the current profitability for NVIDIA GPUs, AMD GPUs, and ASIC Miners.

    https://www.nicehash.com/mining-hardware

The next thing you need to find a coin to mine. There are many different options. Currently, Ethereum is the most profitable but is subject to change. You may want to go with a small altcoin like Ravencoin (RVN) in hopes that prices rise in the future. DYOR and find a project that works for you. You can even jump around between coins. You can use the site below to put in the number of GPUs and types you have for a calculation of profitability including electricity costs.

    https://whattomine.com/

    Finding a Pool

Once you have a coin picked out, it is time to find a pool. I personally like Ethermine and 2 Miners because they have clean, professional websites with all advanced information. Other good pools are F2Pool, Binance, Hiveon, etc. These two sites below can be used to check pools, their fees, number of miners, hashrate, and the last block found. Remember to consider payout minimums and make sure it will not take you 8 months to be able to get a payout. Ethermine pays out 2 weeks after you hit 0.001 ETH.

    https://miningpoolstats.stream/ethereum

    https://www.poolwatch.io/coin/ethereum

    Pool Websites-

    https://2miners.com/

    https://ethermine.org

Ethermine even has a "Start Mining" tab that makes it very easy to get started with their supported coins.

    Finding a Miner

Next you need to find a miner that supports the coin you want to mine. I like to stay with the least sketchy miners, but a good anti-virus can keep you safe. PhoenixMiner is a good miner that has a website to download from rather than Github. You can find tutorials on YouTube if you have trouble.

    https://phoenixminer.org/

You will download the miner of choice and extract the files to your computer. Depending on the miner, there can be lots of options. Find the coin you want to mine with the pool you want to mine to and right click and click edit. This text controls your BATCH file that is setup to mine. Because you found your pool within the file it will already have the pool in the text. All you need to do it paste your Ethereum (or altcoin) address with a space after -wal. The -worker tab is just the name of your rig, which can be anything. Everything else is set as it is supposed to be. An example of an Ethereum and Ravencoin text can be seen below.

    PhoenixMiner.exe -pool eu1.ethermine.org:4444 -wal 0xAB94112445421872c30eB96014b78Be26B00e6E7 -worker baby -epsw x -mode 1 -log 0 -mport 0 -etha 0 -ftime 55 -retrydelay 1 -tt 79 -tstop 89 -coin eth

    pause

    t-rex.exe -a kawpow -o stratum+tcp://rvn.2miners.com:6060 -u RJbYxLB8pvP4WuYaWpfSJHAzhxLZHcTsN9.baby -p x

    pause

    Mining

Once all of the above is setup, you are good to go. Save the edited text so your wallet and worker name is in place and double click the application and it should start mining.

    Active Mining

Plug your wallet into your pool's website and after about 20 minutes, you should see a hashrate to know you are connected and mining.

    Ethermine Stats

    Overclocking

To maximize profits further, you can mess with overclocking. It is important to know how the algorithm you are mining with works. Ethereum is very memory heavy so you will want to boost memory clock and decrease core clock. You can even become more profitable lowering power limit as it saves money on electricity. Every GPU is different so you will have to play around with it. There are lots of good sources online to help you. The number one goal when overclocking is to **KEEP TEMPERATURES DOWN**. Damage only comes when temperatures, especially VRAM get too high. Applications like MSI Afterburner can be used for overclocking and applications like GPU-Z can be used to monitor GPU temperatures and specifications. DYOR and be careful overclocking.

    GPU-Z

    MSI Afterburner

    Solo Mining

You can also solo mine which is more of a gamble trying to find a block on your own. You can make a lot of money solo mining but it definitely takes a lot of hashpower and a lot of luck. I would probably recommend an altcoin as finding and ETH block would be nearly impossible without thousands and thousands of dollars' worth of equipment. 2 Miners has a nice section to start solo mining. I have also never tried solo mining.

    One-Click Miners

If you want to be a dumb, lazy SOB who one-click mines to lose profits and does not follow this guide, here are some popular one-click miners. Again I **DO NOT RECOMMEND** one-click miners.

    Nicehash

    CudoMiner

    HoneyMiner

    Kryptex

    BetterHash

Increase stales on Hiveon - Migration ideas

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 05:17 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

My stale numbers in Hiveon have spiked like crazy in the past month. I used to get 1,5% at most, now it's around 3%. This is unsustainable.

I tested Ethermine, that goes around 1,5% stales, and Flexpool, that consistently gets me below 0,5% stales (I'm mining from South America).

I'd love to hear your opinions on where to mine considering:

    1) I don't mine 24/7, but mostly a 36 hours then a break, then 36 hours and so on.

    2) I intend to get one payout monthly (this is important considering Ethermine covers the transaction fees, but charges 1%; Flex charges 0,5% but doesn't cover the transaction fees, so I'd have to wait low gwei periods).

    3) I do 54,5MH/s.

Which one would you go for?

    Thanks!

Rtx 3080 aorus extreme thermal pad inconsistency?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 07:06 AM PDT

    Hey guys.

So im losing my mind trying to replace the thermal pads on my 3080. After seeing different people's threads, i went for 2mm gelid pads for the front, and 3 mm gelid for the back.

I cut all of them into shape and placed them then tested it with mining/gaming. (Pic1)

My memory temps dropped around more than 20 C and that was amazing. BUT. my normal gpu temps would go berserk and go over 75 celsius even with the hotspot nearing around 105.

So i went and read threads on reddit again and saw people with the same problem, saying that probably the pads are too thick and its not making proper contact. (Too thick yet everyone suggested 2mm for the front? Aight.) And the reccomendation and solution was to squish them down a little so the paste and cpu can make proper contact. So i took a picture and did that. (Pic 2)

And now behold my gpu temps are around 60 or less while mining with good hotspots as well. BUT my memory temps went berserk back to 110?? So I'm basically back to square one. I dont understand whats happening really, please have a look and tell me what do i need to do to have correct temps? (Pic 3 and 4 how pads are right now, and backplate pic.)

Exclamation mark in device manager, second GPU not working

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 06:47 AM PDT

when I connect a second GPU to my motherboard using a riser I get a yellow exclamation mark on device manager and it refuses to be detected by mining software and the like. what is the primary cause of this? faulty riser, faulty motherboard or BIOS settings, faulty power connection? I know it's not the card.

    Repad 3080 suprim/ftw3

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:55 PM PDT

Hello. Just wanted to confirm a few things. Is it possible to repad only the vram?

Pad height are 1.5mm right? Thanks

I repasted/repadded my EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra. Here are the results.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 11:23 AM PDT

So I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the different pad sizes I needed, as well as detailed disassembly/assembly instructions, as I didn't want to mess anything up. I actually filmed the entire process, and I may edit it down and post it on youtube if it would be helpful for others. I kept as many variables constant as I could. These settings remained constant both before and after repadding:

    Core Voltage 0
    Power Limit 65%
    Temp Limit 75c
Core Clock Locked at 1455 mhz and .7500V
    Mem Clock +1500
    Fan 90%
    Case Fan 1 1994rpm
    Case Fan 2 702rpm
    Case Fan 3 1119rpm

Here are the GPU-Z reported temps both before and after repasting/repadding:

    Spec Before After
    GPU Temp 59.5 60.3
    Hot Spot 74.8 79.7
    Mem Temp 105.9 91.6
    Power Draw 219.1 215.9
    Power Consumption 57.6 56.8
    iCX GPU2 72 67
    iCX Mem1 68 64
    iCX Mem2 69 64
    iCX Mem3 72 67
    iCX PWR1 56 55
    iCX PWR2 60 59
    iCX PWR3 63 61
    iCX PWR4 75 72
    iCX PWR5 63 63

EDIT: Can't believe I originally left out the Nicehash numbers! They were before(after):

    Hash rate: 100.2(101.2) Power: 218.2(225) Temp: 59(62) CClk: 1437(1453) GMClk: 10741(10741) Eff/Watt: 459.54(450.88)

What's most curious to me is that the GPU Temp and Hot Spot temp increased, but the Mem Temp dropped. My theory is that by using slightly thicker pads on the mem chips (2.5mm, EVGA uses 2.25mm, which you cant find to buy...), it reduced the compression pressure slightly on the actual GPU chip. Being that the memory chips surround the main GPU chip, I'm thinking the thicker pads aren't allowing the heatsink to make as tight of contact with the GPU chip as when stock.

That said, I think I'm generally happy with the results, as my memory temps during mining were concerning. The pads and thermal paste cost like $70, so it's a substantial investment. While the memory temps did drop almost 15c, the increase in GPU and hotspot temps make this upgrade seem more like a trade-off and less like a "no-brainer".

If anyone can think of anything I might've possibly done wrong during installation, I'm happy to review the video I took of the whole process and see if I made any mistakes. Also let me know if you'd be interested in seeing the video. If there's enough support I'll take the time to trim down the 3 hour video into something more digestible.

Gigabyte 3070 Gaming OC hashrates gets tanked by...mouse movement? Huh?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 06:26 PM PDT

So I got my 3070 back in February, and it's been faithfully hashing away at 60+ in a rig since then. On Saturday, I figured I'd throw it into my gaming tower to replace the 2070 Black I've been using forever. But I noticed that the 3070 gets hit harder hashrate-wise when I do anything than the 2070 did. Hulu, netflix, whatever, knocks off 5MH on the 3070 instead of like 2MH with the 2070. What's weirder is, at full 100% power and +1100mem, I can wave my mouse around on my desktop (either the 60fps monitor or the 144) and tank my hashrate. I'm talking from 58+ down to sub-40. I've tried turning on Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling, but it makes me throw out stale shares like 70% of the time. Is this normal for a 3070? Are they just bad at multitasking?

I used gelid 2 mm on all the face modules, and gelid 3 mm on all the back modules. Though im not sure im getting correct temps? My memory temps drastically changed but..

Gpu temp in hw monitor is reported at : 71 currently.

    Memory is at 80

    And hotspot currently at 93.

Are these all acceptable long term 24/7 mining temperatures, am i done lol? 99Hashrate btw.
