Moon week (Round 15) - Please review the snapshot and vote on governance polls

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 03:31 PM PDT

Hello everyone and welcome to your first official Moon Week!

Moon Week began yesterday with the snapshot post by the admins, which can be found here. Check it out to see how many moons you'll be getting next Wednesday at the end of Moon Week.

This Moon Week sticky will remain pinned to the top of the subreddit until next Wednesday to give exposure to our governance polls for this month. Please review the polls below, participate in discussions, and vote! You get a 5% moon bonus for voting!

Let me know if I've missed any currently active polls. All polls were supposed to be submitted by today so I could list them together, but as this is our first moon week you may want to check back Monday also to see if any more have been added.

Please note that all future governance polls will need to be posted as a pre-proposal in r/CryptoCurrencyMeta for community feedback and so I can make sure I don't miss linking any in the sticky here

For more information about moons, please see our wiki page here. It is an ongoing effort to document what Moons are and how they work. If there is anything that isn't included or sufficiently clear, please ask so we can answer you and improve the wiki page

The post claiming that EU and US are planning to make anonymous wallets illegal is straight up FUD

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 12:29 AM PDT

The post links to a dodgy website that has zero credibility and zero sources and it doesn't even mention the US.

The OP of that posted that posted that bullshit then tries to mask it all with a fake call to arms just to make it seem legit. Don't fall for this kind of bullshit FUD.

Its a fabrication published in bad faith by a karma-whoring kid whose mom got angry because he bought crypto. Check his profile.

Both EU and US are planning to make private „anonymous wallets“ illegal. We CRYPTO holders need to act now!

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 03:24 PM PDT

So the regulatory grip is tightening around the world and it's getting more and more absurd. We as crypto supporters need to come together and should wipe off the tribalism. If governments want to make anonymous wallets illegal it only means one thing: Crypto owners being forced to deposit their holdings on „identifiable" wallets, which are usually only available on exchanges (= the new banks?) These are places where authorities are able to have a detailed look at your holdings and even have the possibility to confiscate your holdings or block you for whatever reason they have. Being the only person who has complete control over your own crypto assets was and is the main argument for crypto and the ultimate form of freedom. There're already existing KYC/AML rules on exchanges which is fair enough, but forcing people to get rid of their private wallets is outrageous! I urge everyone to have a look at your country's plans and to contact politicians who are responsible for these topics. If we don't do anything against this, regulation will kill all the innovation and freedom we've achieved so far ...

EDIT: So I obviously wrote this post in an emotional state, I could've added additional sources, but it doesn't change the fact, that these are important times ahead of us and that governments and (central banks) around the world don't like the dynamics coming from the whole crypto and blockchain sphere.

Here's another source coming directly from an EU member: New rules for Bitcoin & Co: My proposals for the EU crypto regulation - Sven Giegold - Mitglied der Grünen Fraktion im Europaparlament (sven-giegold.de)
    Thx to /u/meesa-jar-jar-binks/

    Additional info by /u/popopopopopopopq/ Thx!

But they are indeed doing some work on Crypto. Here some sources:

    Draft the article was mentioning

EU Regulatory framework for crypto-assets (below you can find all their documentation on all Impact assessment reports, Opinions, summaries, proposals for regulations.

Details on the Expert Group that is working on it

Proposal Currently pending (EP and Council have to approve)

A detailed article about the MiCA

For what regards the EU side, as citizens we can propose regulations! So we can take action

    Edit: one source https://gettotext.com/eu-draft-wants-to-ban-possession-of-anonymous-crypto-wallets/

Edit 2: While I agree that FUD mustn't be shared, this is not FUD. Yes it's just an unofficial draft, but it's important that we as a community remain vigilant and make use of our voices. I don't have a problem with being KYC'ed on an exchange, but I want to be the only one who is in control of my assets on a private wallet. Period. And I'm sick of all these fake arguments to give away constantly more and more of my freedom and privacy.

My mom got mad at me when she discovered that I invested a big part of my savings in Crypto

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 07:45 PM PDT

For a little context, I'm a 21 year old guy that lives with his parents, and over the last three years I've been able to work a min wage job and managed to save most of my salary because they (my parents) insisted I don't need to pay bills. Recently after the big dip I decided it was good time to invest in crypto and put about 40% of my fiat money in.

Fast forward a week or so, I decided to tell my parents about it and my mom got really mad saying that I got scammed and that I'll never see my money back. She also doesn't believe me when I say I can withdraw whenever I want and insists I do it just to prove it to her, but I refused as I would only lose money due to fees.

I'm so mad at her ignorance, and the only reason I want to succeed with my investments now is out of pure spite and to prove her wrong. Thanks for reading up to this point, and I'm sorry if I made any grammar mistakes. English is not my native language.

Allow users to tip up to 100 moons per round with out loss of 20% karma bonus

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 03:07 PM PDT

Greetings my fellow r/cryptocurrency members this is my first proposal I've made so I apologize in advance if this isn't top grade.

I would like to talk to everyone and get their thoughts and opinions on moon tipping. As we're all aware if you don't tip/sell out any moons you will be rewarded with a extra 20% bonus on your karma per distribution round.

Personally I think 20% bonus is a great function for the subreddit as it encourages holding, but I also feel it's a catch 22 since one of the use cases for moons is tipping and if you do so you will penalized for doing so, this effectively discourages people from tipping out there moons. The last moon tipping proposal didn't pass because it was a % of your total distribution round earned and not a fixed numerical amount, the concern was that moon whales could sell a large portion of moons without loss of 20% bonus.

**Solution:** I personally think a leeway of tipping up to 100 moons per distribution is fair since at the time of writing this 100 moons = $7.91

I'm curious to what your thoughts are on this? Is 100 to much? Too little? Or is it just right? I think 100 is good because it allows users to tip a "fair" amount of moons to newbies/quality post and comments, while also restricting users from tipping another alt account to sell off a high fraction of there moons

100 is just a start, if we like the idea and put it to use we can always revise the proposal and bump it up higher I look at tipping 100 as better then what we have now in place

TLDR: **proposal to tip out up to 100 moons per distribution round without losing 20% karma bonus**

It's official - Nano is no longer among the top 100 coins

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 05:05 AM PDT

I'm at a loss for words (well, not literally, otherwise you'd not see this post). I've been a holder since XRB days. It's my first coin. It was perfect: Instant. Feeless. Green. IMO, it was what Satoshi intended as the ultimate cryptocurrency.

Now, I understand Nano came to be in a situation where smart contracts where not such a big thing, and there were no "swaps" and there was no staking/lending/liquidity pools etc. People want more from crypto and that's OK. But I'm not OK with freakin' SHIB and SAFEMOON having a larger mcap than Nano. I'll never be OK with that. For the love of all that is holy, SAFEMOON should not be a word any of us remember in two years.

Sure, there were two major incidents, both occurring in the bull runs, the exchange exit scam crap and the spam attacks now. And sure, it was shilled here relentlessly. And people hate shillers. But how can a coins main fault be "it's fan base is annoying"??

/my incoherent rant, I'm just bummed something so technically great is not actually "appreciated" more.

Edit: holy amount of comments, Batman. RIP my inbox.

Thank you everyone for the awards, there's too many of them to reply to you all individually (i still believe in thanking personally for the awards but since my inbox is MIA, this is a bit troublesome).

Also, someone was so concerned about me being bummed, a bot sent me a message about suicide hotline. While I would never do something like that over crypto (or money), I honestly appreciate the kind thought. You are (as Keanu says) breathtaking.

Take care everyone (even Safemoon holders).

Edit 2 this has become my most upvoted post. I don't know what to say. Thank you to everyone, Nano fans and Nano haters.

Also, it seems Safemoon holders have figured out this post, so they started brigadding. Some had hilarious things to say about Nano (e.g. "Out of #100 instant and feeless" and "Nano is very fast. Out of top 100hehe"). Laughs were had. Just to clarify, if Safemoon and SHIB start doing great things, there will be no one happier than me. I still think both of them have too many red flags, but I'm happy for you if you profit. Take care now and have a good day

Found my old phone from 2013 that I used for weed purchased using Bitcoin

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 11:11 PM PDT

As the title says. I was one of those guys that got into crypto early. As in 2010 ish. For quite some time, I made a living exclusively from trading Liberty Reserve. The OG's here know that story. The feds shut it down and I lost over $15,000. I scrounged what I had left and diversified my portfolio. E-gold, Bitcoin, digitalnaira and more.

Of all of them, Bitcoin had the least promise. Cos it was only used by bad guys on silk road. Which is where my dealer brought from, and was what I used to pay for weed instead of cash.

November 2013, I decided to sell all my crypto and grow up and get a real job. The good news is I just now realized I had 10 bitcoins on my LocalBitcoins account. No longer have access to the email I used then, but have reached out to the team to see if my account can be restored.

The phone, and my weed transactions. 🤣😂

Might have had an account and Bitcoin on MTGox too

Banks not letting people deposit to Binance? Why are you surprised? Elizabeth Warren calling for more regulation? Why are you surprised? Media spreading FUD 24/7? Why are you surprised? The bigger this gets, the more control they’ll want. Don’t be surprised.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 06:14 AM PDT

Any time the little guys start winning, the elite can't help themselves but to try to fuck them over.

They act like we're too stupid to handle risk and they pass their regulations to "protect" us.

Stop banking with these banks. Stop voting for these control freaks. Stop clicking the clickbait FUD.

It's only going to get worse.

The hardcap of 250 million moons will never be reached

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 06:21 PM PDT

Many of us (myself included) assumed that distribution would continue until the hardcap was reached, but this is incorrect. The monthly distribution is on a predetermined schedule that drops a fixed 2.5% each round and doesn't take claim activity into account, and all claims expire after 6 months.

Two users (u/iNstein u/mellon98) recently reached out on this issue so we asked the admins for clarification. They confirmed unclaimed moons are considered permanently lost and will never re-enter orbit or count towards total supply. Because of this the theoretical supply cap of 250 million will never be hit.

Currently ~45 million moons have gone unclaimed. The circulating supply is close to 65 million but the total available to claim at this point is ~110 million.

Shoutout to u/IHaventEvenGotADog for noticing the discrepancy in this post with detailed spreadsheets three months ago. +250 moons for your effort

I'm going to use this opportunity to propose we refer to the circulating supply of moons as the "orbiting supply"

You get a 5% boost on your moons if you participate in governance polls. I don't need to tell you guys how important it is to let your voice be heard and this is one of the chances to do so. This particular poll is about to pass but it needs more participation.

You can also create your own polls if you wish to change something in the community.

The cap on MOON supply has been cut from 250M to an estimated 150M. This is extremely bullish news for MOON's.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:08 PM PDT

It has just been announced that moons that go unclaimed will be lost permanently. This is crazy bullish news for moons, and I will be analyzing the effect this will have on their price.

Since out of the total 110 Million moons distributed 45 Million are unclaimed, that is a total reduction in supply of 41%. If the amount of unclaimed moons continues at this pace, the total moon supply will only be 150 Million instead of 250 Million as predicted.

With this extreme 41% cut in moon supply, they will undoubtedly increase in price much more than they would have previously due to the laws of supply and demand.

Do you think I should replace the back pocket of all my pants with a clear piece of plastic so my wallet is always visible? Seeking advice. Thanks

Moon week (Round 15) - Statistics

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 03:01 AM PDT

I've taken a short look at the proposed distribution statstics for round 15:

There are 45,072 user-accounts with karma for this round, for a total amount of 5,769,692 karma. Of those, 43,930 have less then 1000 karma, 37,867 less then 100.

If the karma was distributed evenly you would expect every account to have 128 karma. The median of only 11 karma shows that the distribution is very "top-heavy", i.e. few accounts have a lot of karma. It would be even worse if 21 accounts hadn't reached the upper limit of 15,000 karma.

Around 57% of the accounts have a blockchain adress, i.e. have set up their vault. Over 19,000 accounts do not have a vault set-up. If they do not do this in the next 6 month, around 540,000 karma (i.e. the moons they'll get or it) will be lost. Since this is only around 9% of the whole karma, it's easy to see that its mostly the accounts with a small amount of karma who have no vault. There are five accounts with over 2,000 karma and no blockchain adress, the highest got 2301 karma this round.
