Reminder: Upvote parties, "upvote if", and all other forms of vote solicitation are not allowed

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:21 AM PDT

Vote manipulation and is banned by rule 3 of the subreddit and the reddit user-agreement. If you see users engaging in this behavior, please report their posts and do not participate with them. Examples of vote solicitation may include:

    • Linking to a post on this subreddit and asking people to vote
    • Offering upvotes indiscriminately
    • Posting a reply to someone offering upvotes indiscriminately
    • Spamming replies that just say you've upvoted them, with the implication that they should return the favor
    • Quid Pro Quo arrangements like "I'll upvote you if you upvote me"

This kind of activity has never been allowed. However with moons now in the mix, this also effectively steals from people trying to actually contribute to the subreddit.

How do some posts get over 1K upvotes while other extremely useful once range between 50 and 200 upvotes?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 02:12 AM PDT

The other day i was scrolling through the Top posts and for real though i have seen some totally random posts with 12 thousand upvotes that simply share a silly self story thats mildly humorous.

On the other hand ive seen other excellent DD and Research posts that are full of comments but stay in an upvote range of double or triple digits.

It really makes no sense to me. Dont get me wrong i lo e a good laugh and i will upvote if something made me laugh but sometimes im really confused.

Are bots involved or how does this happen. The upvote difference between 50 and 12 thousand is pretty large and considering we have millions of members its pretty bizzare to me.

I was given my first moon a couple of months ago and it felt awesome! Do you have zero moons? Would you like one?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:11 AM PDT

As the title says I was tipped my first moon a couple of months ago. Now I have over a 1,000 and would like to give away some of these bad boys to people who have zero. If you want a moon just leave a comment. For the next couple of hours I will tip out 1 moon to people who don't have any moons.

How are Moons not being exploited?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 03:27 AM PDT

I am really curious - If every upvote counts as approx. 0.4 0.2 moons, then why aren't people creating bots that will automatically upvote their posts? This can literally generate free money and it doesn't seem to be that hard since there are dozens of sites offering mass upvoting/downvoting for a few dollars.

Just took all my Crypto out of Robinhood. Best decision I’ve ever made.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 05:01 AM PDT

When I first got into crypto trading and investing back in January, I used RH for its simplicity and Economics (free). It wasn't until I had several thousand $ worth of crypto in it when I learned of its crummy business practices and the fact I don't actually own the crypto. The problem I faced was that the only way to get it out was to liquidate it into USD, and transfer it to my bank, and rebuy the crypto on an exchange. I knew this process would take up to 6 business days. I was worried that in that time crypto would spike and I would lose potential gains. But I said screw it and did it anyway. Now I'm reinvested and have my ETH and BTC on Coinbase and I couldn't be more relieved.

Binance.US Is Stealing People's Money Quietly During Market Moves

Binance.US Is Stealing People's Money Quietly During Market Moves

I'm making this post to help US citizens who have their money on Binance.US.

Recently, I made a trade and sold off some crypto to keep some funds in USD for a move down I anticipated happening. Everything was going according to plan and the next morning I got up to make my trade, only to find more than $1000 was missing from my USD funds.

The $11 buy was with separate money

This is the amount I woke up to

Confused, I tried to reach out to Binance.US to no avail. I did some research and found out people have been waiting months for tickets to be resolved. That was unacceptable to me, so I filed formal complaints with the BBB and the SEC, of which both cases are still open at the time of this writing.

Today, Binance.US emailed me back and notified me they removed $1000 from my trade because "their records" show a deposit I made on the 25th of June never went through.

This is the first indication I got of where the money went

Confused, I logged into my bank account to check my account and sure enough, there was a transaction for $1000 on June 25th.

    Bank Statement

The most alarming thing about this is that Binance.US gave me ZERO indication that they were doing this, and if I wasn't the type of person who pays very close attention to his account, that money would have been gone forever with me being none the wiser. There were no emails, no alerts, nothing on my account, zilch, to indicate what they did. And to top it all off, it was done in the middle of the night, somewhere between 3-4am PST, as the market was falling. So when I woke up, the PNL looked as if it was a normal red day. To top it all off, they took MORE than $1000 when they removed the money from my account.

If you guys are using Binance.US, get your money off of that exchange ASAP and watch your funds like a hawk. There will likely be a lawsuit that stems from these types of practices, and it shows that Binance.US is being grossly incompetent with people's money to the point of negligence. Please do not use them and use this message to protect yourself.

UPDATE: Binance.US is doubling down and saying they never received the funds. I called my bank and they confirmed the transaction did go through in a timely manner.

I traced out my bank statement with my USD deposits on Binance.US and they match up perfectly, minus the $1000 + a few extra they took without telling me.

Never Forget: RobinHood has prevented people from trading crypto many times. Don’t “buy” crypto on Robbinghood.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 09:21 AM PDT

Everyone should remember what RobinHood has done. They have restricted trading many times before, and it will happen again. Do not put your money into a scam ecosystem which doesn't allow you to sell when it benefits them financially.

Be in control of your own crypto. Coinbase, Kraken and Binance are all better places to buy crypto. Buy a hardware wallet for extra security if you wish.

Did you know you could have made almost $5,000 worth of moons with a single post in their early days of moons? I analyzed the top 1,000 posts on this sub to see which ones earned the most

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 07:00 AM PDT

Retrospectively, the early days of moons were crazy. I wasn't around back then, but the moons-to-karma ration was really high, and there was no cap how much moons one could earn on a single post or in a single round. That means, a single post could earn you a ton of moons - which you could have sold for a ton of money if you held them for a few months!

So I wondered: what's the most valuable post on this sub? I scraped the top 1,000 posts, added the karma ratios of each month (I use data by u/IHaventEvenGotADog) and considered the rules that were in place in each round. In the table below, you can see the top 10 posts, according to my calculations, got the most moons in the past, as well as the top post of every round that didn't make the top 10. As a cap of 1,000 karma per post was introduced in round 11, a lot of posts reached that threshold in every round since then, so I only include the maximum number of moons per post for these. I had to assume that all karma was collected in the same period the post was posted, so the real moon numbers will be sightly off.

That's crazy, right? The top post of all times, with more than 50k upvotes, got 238 moons for it, a post with 5k upvotes (which, of course, was harder to reach as the sub had less users), received 46k moons.

So how much money are these top posts worth? Well, that depends on the moon price of course. While that peaked at almost $0.5, it did so for a very short time and due to the low moon volume it would have been impossible to sell a lot at that price. Let's consider $0.1 a realistic price, as moons were above that a few times and one could have sold moons over a couple of days at that price without crashing the price. Considering that, the #1 post on that list - which is just a link to an article, could have been worth $4636 if that OP sold at that price. Not bad for posting a link!

Influencers used dying kids to promote a scam altcoin

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 06:36 AM PDT

A token called 'Save The Kids' was released in June. It promised investors that a percentage of the proceeds would go to charity.

These are some of the influencers that promoted the token and their combined followers (Youtube/Twitter/Instagram) :

    Faze Kay - 9M+

    Faze Jarvis - 12M+

    Faze Nikan - 3M+

    Faze Teeqo - 7M+

    RiceGum - 18M+

    SommerRay - 27M+

There were some other influencers as well...

The token got rugged just a few days after its launch. These "influencers" claimed that they didn't know it was a scam. Some people found their wallet addresses and all of these investors sold before the big dump.

If you want to know more about this scam, I would recommend checking out Coffezilla's detailed 37 minute VIDEO on this.

This was Faze Kay's "apology" tweet a few days ago

"I want you all to know that I had no ill intent promoting any crypto alt coins. I honestly & naively thought we all had a chance to win which just isn't the case. I didn't vet any of this with my team at FaZe and I now know I should have. "

Today on twitter Faze Clan announced:

"Faze Kay has been removed from Faze Clan. Faze Jarvis, Teeqo and Nikan have been suspended from Faze Clan until further notice"

Edit: The token was released on the Binance Smart Chain. (of course it was BSC)

Every sub I follow hates Robinhood

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 08:33 PM PDT

I follow a bunch of investing subs that all have their different styles and flavors. For the most part, the tone of all the subs differ in some way, shape, or form - representing different demographics of investors.

Today was the first day where every sub collectively shit on RH in complete harmony, and warned against any interaction with their IPO.

Don't buy crypto on RH, don't buy the IPO, don't short it or buy puts. Just stay away from RH.

You will always be "too late"

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 07:44 AM PDT

It's almost a meme at this point to say that we are all early, but it's also very common to see people saying they wish they could have gotten in sooner.

I'm too late, I could have gotten BTC when it was only $1000!

I'm too late, I could have gotten ETH at $200!

And so on. Even our beloved/reviled moons are susceptible. There is a post today lamenting how they could have gotten 46k moons a year ago for one post.

And it's never going to end, you'll always be "too late" to buy or sell. Which leads me to my advice for those feeling the reverse FOMO or hesitant to jump in, you can't control your situation, only how you react to it. Don't let missed gains cause you to miss even more waiting for that perfect moment.

Why doesn’t everyone distance themselves from Tether? With no transparency or audit how can we trust them?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 12:12 AM PDT

There is no transparency and they could crash the market. They can't be trusted basically and there are other stable coins so why stick with Tether? And if no decent alternative exists why hasn't one been made?

They still haven't been audited as far as I know which should be a massive red flag cos we just have to take their words for it that the money is all there on the exchange.

They also have people working for them with nefarious backgrounds, so why are they being trusted? They could be printing money for all we know and if they crash the market and everyone was to lose their crypto it would be a disaster. It could easily be avoided too but the longer this goes on the more I worry about it.

Surely everyone with holdings on Tether must know this because it would be stupid not to know the details of the company where you're storing your crypto.

Pre-Proposal: Make mod's distinguished posts ineligible for moons

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:32 AM PDT

Creating a Moon address for charitable purposes.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 04:30 AM PDT

I wonder if it's possible for the mods to create an account here that we can send moons too that can be given to a charity of the sub's choice each month.

A few of us were discussing this a while ago, maybe even something like taking 5% of the 20% holding bonus and donating that monthly to charity (for people that opt in of course)

    Any ideas on this?

My daily crypto staking rewards are paying me more than my job!

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 06:57 AM PDT

Now, I know what you're probably thinking: "You need a better paid job." And you may have a point!

But anyway, thanks to staking various cryptos, the passive income I'm currently receiving from those staking rewards is actually exceeding the income I get from my main job, which I think is pretty incredible.

Despite making my first crypto purchase in mid 2017, whenever I heard people in here mention the word "staking" I always felt as if that was something too technical for me and that I'd risk losing all my money, so I didn't even look into it, or start staking anything, until the end of 2020 when I bought my first ADA. Turns out it was all really simple. Even your grandma could do it.

I know most people here are already very familiar with the concept of staking crypto to earn passive income. But if you're new, or like me you're more of a non-techy person, and you've heard of staking but never given it a try because you thought it sounded intimidating, perhaps consider taking a look into it. There are plenty of helpful people in this sub and in coin specific subs who can help to guide you through the process (of course take all the usual crypto security precautions when recieving help from strangers on the internet). I'm not saying you're going to earn enough to quit your job, but even if it's just a few extra dollars sats a month, it all adds up and might end up being worth a lot more than you imagined a few years down the line.

Edit: Was requested for more details. Current staking rewards are approximately $50 per day, most of which is from Osmo, Atom and ADA.

    What's your dream to fulfill?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 09:51 AM PDT

We are all here, at least the majority of us, to get some profit from cryptocurrency.

We all have our own preferred coins that we swear by.

We believe in the team behind a coin, or maybe just in the potential, some shill the real life applications, some the anonymity, and some ... prefer the memes.

But we all have dreams. What's yours?

Mine? Mine is to go to culinary school. I'm a bachelor in advertising and although I don't hate it, it doesn't make me happy.

Mine is to get a cozy department, a nice yet affordable car and live a happy and tranqille life.

Mine is to have enough money to not really care much about it.

Mine is get to spend it with my best friends. Traveling and seeing the world with them, maybe help them fullfill some of their own dreams, make them all happy.

    That's my dream :)
