    Cryptocurrency New Moons Distribution (Round 15 Proposal)

    Cryptocurrency New Moons Distribution (Round 15 Proposal)

    New Moons Distribution (Round 15 Proposal)

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 02:41 PM PDT

    Moons are r/CryptoCurrency's version of Community Points. Community Points are a way for users to be rewarded for their contributions to the subreddit, and they can be used on premium features in the community.

    Moons are distributed every 4 weeks based on contributions people make to r/CryptoCurrency. For every distribution, Reddit publishes karma data as a default measure of contribution. The community can review the data and optionally propose an alternative distribution, if they wish.

    This distribution is based on karma earned from 2021-06-09 to 2021-07-06. Here is the data.

    To propose an alternative distribution:

    • You can create a CSV with alternative contribution scores or propose changes to the algorithm used to calculate them from karma (as long as the changes can be implemented easily).
    • The amount of Moons distributed to a user will be proportional to their contribution score. Contribution scores cannot be negative.
    • Make a poll to have the community vote on your proposal. Include an accurate description of the changes you are proposing.
    • In order to pass, the winning option in the poll must meet the decision threshold (minimum number of Moons in support). If it is in favor of the change, it becomes the official contribution measurement (unless there is evidence of abuse in the vote, such as bribery). Algorithm changes will carry forward to future distributions.
    • In case of multiple competing polls passing, the one with the most Moons cast in favor will be the official one.
    • If no alternative passes, the data provided here will become official.

    The contribution scores for this round will be finalized on 2021-07-14. Any poll proposing an alternative needs to be completed by then.

    After the scores are finalized, Reddit will sign the data and publish the final, official data. After that, people will be able to claim their Moons through the Vault in the Reddit mobile app.

    Which is better: Buying Top Coins vs. Buying BTC & ETH - (a 6 years DCA case study)

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 03:43 PM PDT

    Inspired by this post, I built a script to analyse if you DCA'd blindly in the top crypto coins vs. investing in BTC & ETH vs investing only in BTC since the beginning of 2015, how much would your total worth is. Here are the results.

    Numbers & assumptions:

    • DCAing takes place every week, on 1st, 8th, 15th and 22th of every month starting from Jan 1st 2015 and until July 6th 2021.
    • Investments budget per week is $100.
    • The weekly investment is divided equally on the coins invested in.
    • This case study is ignoring stable coin investments. E.g.: investing in the top 5 coins means the top 5 coins excluding any stable coins.
    • The analysis is assuming that you invested your money and never sold any coin till now.
    • Total invested money over the whole DCA period is $31,300.
    • Transaction fees are not included in the analysis.

    Here are the results:

    • If you blindly DCA into the top 1 coins (BTC), you will end up with $1,102,104.
    • If you blindly DCA into the top 2 coins, you will end up with 4 coins (BTC, XRP, LTC, ETH) in your wallet and total worth of $1,462,443.
    • If you blindly DCA into the top 3 coins, you will end up with 11 coins in your wallet, and a total worth of $1,310,552.
    • If you blindly DCA into the top 5 coins, you will end up with 23 coins in your wallet, and a total worth of $2,490,189.
    • If you blindly DCA into the top 7 coins, you will end up with 37 coins in your wallet, and a total worth of $2,923,849.
    • If you blindly DCA into the top 10 coins, you will end up with 55 coins in your wallet, and a total worth of $2,316,169.
    • If you blindly DCA into the top 20 coins, you will end up with 130 coins in your wallet, and a total worth of $1,619,756.
    • If you blindly DCA into the top 50 coins, you will end up with 381 coins in your wallet, and a total worth of $979,086.
    • If you had a glass ball and knew that ETH will be what it's today and you invested only in BTC & ETH, you will end up with 2 coins in your wallet (surprise), and a total worth of $4,505,477.

    Some observations:

    1. Although it was relatively easier to guess that BTC will be the #1 crypto coin back then, nobody would have guessed for sure that ETH will be #2, so betting on BTC & ETH only from the beginning would've been your strategy only if you know the future. (you are God). Based on that it's safer to say "I invest in the top X coins" instead of saying I only invest in coin X and coin Y.
    2. Investing in altcoins in addition to BTC can increase your ROI considerably. Investing in top 7-10 coins tends to yield the most return in this case study (x3).
    3. Based on #2, a crypto ETF (or a similar service from exchanges that allow us to buy in bulk) could give exposure to the top X coins while saving transaction costs considerably.

    If you want more details, here is what your wallet would look like in each case of the above:

    IMPORTANT NOTE: This whole case study was a fun project and i was trying to answer some questions and thought to share it with you in case that would help you in any way. Also it's important to not that history does not dictate the future, so please take all of what I present here with a grain of salt.

    Much Love! ❤️

    Governance Poll: Make mod's distinguished posts ineligible for moons

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 01:47 PM PDT

    Distinguished posts are submissions or comments posted by a mod or admin, which they choose to highlight to indicate that they are speaking officially (such as this one for example). On old.reddit this may be a green highlight behind the username or green [M] next to it. On new.reddit and mobile, this is usually a green shield next to the username. For admins, this is usually a red highlight.

    It was the understanding of most mods that distinguished posts were already ineligible for moons, which makes sense because mods have their own part of the moon distribution for their official actions. However, it was recently clarified by admins that sticky posts that are ineligible, and distinguished posts are considered for moons just like any other. I can't think of any reason for our official posts to be eligible for moons, so I would suggest changing this policy

    Original Pre-Proposal: https://np.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrencyMeta/comments/oceyc9/preproposal_make_mods_distinguished_posts/

    Thank you for your consideration and please let me know your feedback about this idea

    Proposal to Sync Moon Distribution Cycles to the Lunar Calendar

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 03:06 PM PDT

    [GOVERNANCE POLL]

    First Mentioned Here

    I Propose that the moon distribution to happen in accordance to the Lunar Cycle/ Lunar Calendar.

    Not only will this be really cool, this would do away with redditors constantly asking "When Moon", in other words, one can simply look up the Lunar Calendar, or Google, "When is full moon day"

    The Snapshot Day can be the First Quarter, and the Distribution day can be the Full Moon Day. As can be observed Here

    Abovementioned 2 days have a time-gap of around 7 days between them. Perfect for the Governance Polls.

    Edit: In order to make sure everyone gets the moons at the same time, If this Poll is a success, the Mods can select an arbitrary place on Earth as a point of reference for Moon Observation.

    ShibaSwap does not offer staking , they are minting and burning 2 tokens at a 1:1 ratio which results in you getting nothing

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 06:12 PM PDT

    Shiba Inu token has launched their own swap similar to uniswap. It now offers staking but not in a traditional sense, instead users deposit Shiba Inu tokens which are then locked, and those users are given newly minted tokens named xShib, which they can later come back and use to redeem their original tokens. The site claims they earn rewards for staking but based on my findings this is not the case at all.

    I am not here to to spread fud, but the lack of transparency with this is a big red flag for me. There is no Certik audit as they have claimed is underway for over 2 months now, there is no documentation site, no faces on the project, and no links to any of the contracts which people are using. Through some deep digging I was able to find this live contract for xShib . Click 'contract' on the page and then the code tab and you will see the functions I am about to highlight:
    function 1: Enter - This is the 'Bury Shib' under BURY on ShibaSwap.com , hence the contract name being BuryShib on the link above. It's also worth noting I looked at all 3 for 'Bury Shib' , 'Bury Bone' , and 'Bury Leash' they are all the same code:

    // Enter the doghouse. Pay some SHIBs. Earn some shares.

    // Locks Shib and mints xShib

    function enter(uint256 _amount) public {

    // Gets the amount of Shib locked in the contract

    uint256 totalShib = shib.balanceOf(address(this));

    // Gets the amount of xShib in existence

    uint256 totalShares = totalSupply();

    // If no xShib exists, mint it 1:1 to the amount put in

    if (totalShares == 0 || totalShib == 0) {

    _mint(msg.sender, _amount);

    }

    So this part of the function is taking the amount of Shiba inu token you want to deposit as an argument, then it gets the total amount of xShib already in existence as well as Shiba Inu locked in the contract, which at the time of this post is around $380 Million dollars and around 45 trillion tokens. It then does the following:

    // Calculate and mint the amount of xShib the Shib is worth. The ratio will change overtime, as xShib is burned/minted and Shib deposited + gained from fees / withdrawn.

    else {

    uint256 what = _amount.mul(totalShares).div(totalShib);

    //100*1000/1000

    _mint(msg.sender, what);

    }

    // Lock the Shib in the contract

    shib.transferFrom(msg.sender, address(this), _amount);

    }

    Take note of the variable 'what' I highlighted bold. Now take a look at this page of the contract , specifically the total supply of xShib in the top left , its around 45 trillion, the almost exact same amount locked in the contract. You can verify first link I provided again, and click the drop down in the top left where it shows the value in the contract and check how many ShibaInu are in the xShib contract, its almost identical. (Also RIP to whoever sent .72 LEASH to this address, thats around $1800 to never be seen again)

    The section in bold is the important part, the function is taking the amount you want to deposit, multiplying that by the total supply of xShib, and then dividing that by the total Shiba Inu in the contract. Since its minting the amount someone deposits you'll only be getting back what you put in. This is obvious once you get to the next function for when you want to withdraw:

    Method 2 - Leave - return your xShib tokens and redeem your Shiba tokens.
    // Leave the doghouse. Claim back your SHIBs.

    // Unclocks the staked + gained Shib and burns xShib

    function leave(uint256 _share) public {

    // Gets the amount of xShib in existence

    uint256 totalShares = totalSupply();

    // Calculates the amount of Shib the xShib is worth

    uint256 what = _share.mul(shib.balanceOf(address(this))).div(totalShares);

    _burn(msg.sender, _share);

    shib.transfer(msg.sender, what);

    }

    Again the important part of the code is in bold, this function is passed a parameter which is _share , share represents how many xShiba tokens you are depositing back into the contract as you call Leave. It then does a calculation of your return in the 'what' variable which can be simplified as followed:
    ProfitReturn = your xShib shares multiplied by their their wallets ShibaInu balance divided by the total number of xShib tokens in existence.

    Analysis:
    Currently the xShiba main net wallet holds $380 million dollars worth of Shiba in less than 24 hours since launch. The total max supply (which is constantly being minted or burned) is currently around 44 trillion xShiba.
    Shiba Inu Tokens in wallet: 44,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx (44 trillion)
    If I deposited $38,000,000 or 10% of the Shiba Inu in the contract, then I would receive 4,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx (4 trillion) xShiba coins which again is around 10% of the total 44 trillion coins in the wallet.
    Based on the 'what' variable in the 'Leave' function above we can assume the following using our simplified explanation:
    ProfitReturn = 4 trillion xShiba * 44 trillion Shiba Inu divided by 44 trillion total xShiba = 4 trillion.

    After the calculation the leave function calls _burn(msg.sender, _share);and literally nothing has happened. I've verified this by going through transactions on the contract and finding wallets that have called the 'leave' function , I went through a few accounts and looked at how much they initially 'entered' vs how much they received when they 'left' and nothing happens in terms of value gained. The contract is literally taking what you put in and giving you that much back. If this is incorrect then it comes down to lack of transparency of how this entire swap is working. Again this is an open invite for the devs/founders to come in and provide some clarity.

    Edit: Seeing a couple comments asking for the code, here it is

    There are 55 total lines in the buryShib contract , and 4 other files which are OpenZeppelin libraries (standard for most tokens).

    Friendly reminder that Coinbase Pro is free and has lower fees than regular Coinbase!

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 04:58 AM PDT

    Apparently not everyone seems to know this, but if you use Coinbase, you can switch to Coinbase Pro for free and enjoy lower fees there!

    Afaik you can't stake on CB Pro, but you can buy and then transfer to regular Coinbase.

    Edit: Great tip from u/aladdinr for those concerned about the longer transfer times:

    deposit fiat into the main Coinbase platform (allows you to transfer instantly without the wait period CB Pro has).

    Then transfer the fiat (free) to CB Pro. Buy on CB Pro.

    Then transfer back to main Coinbase to stake (or transfer to your personal wallet or do whatever you want with the crypto).

    I gathered a list of different fallacies that can/will cloud your trading decisions, which I think everyone should be aware of - and tried to apply it to crypto.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 12:18 AM PDT

    Anchoring:

    The first thing you judge influences your judgement of all that follows.

    "The price just dumped/pumped, must be a shit/great coin"

    Confirmation bias:

    You favor things that confirm your existing beliefs

    "This guy says my biggest holding will pump so he's prob right"

    Backfire effect:

    When your core beliefs are challenged, it causes you to to believe even more strongly

    "The price is dumping, a huge pump must be imminent!"

    Declinism:

    You remember the past as better than it was, and expect the future to be worse than it likely will be

    "2018 was great, everything was green even when it crashed!"

    Sunk cost fallacy:

    You irrationally cling to things that have already cost you something

    "Yes its an obvious rug pull but I'm down 5% so I cant sell now"

    Dunning-kruger effect:

    The more you know, the less confident you will be (and vice versa)

    "I've been in this game for THREE DAYS, I think I know a thing or two about spotting a bear trap"

    In-group bias / (bandwagon effect)

    You unfairly favor those that belong in your group / Ideas, fads and beliefs grow as more people adopt them

    "Everyone in my BTC 2 DA MOON FB group / mainstream media says it will reach 1m so it must be true"

    The Halo effect/authority bias

    How much you like someone, influences your other judgements of them - we trust and are more influenced by the opinion or authority figures

    "Elon says pump, I say how high!"

    Belief bias;

    If a conclusion supports your existing beliefs, youll rationalize anything that supports it

    "Mcaffee says BTC will reach a million? I concurr"

    Groupthink:

    You let the social dynamics of a group situation override the best outcomes

    "/r/CC says it's a bear market, time to sell everything!"

    Optimism/pessimism bias

    You overestimate the likelihood of a positive/negative outcome

    "I'm OK with the events that are currently unfolding" / BTC dropped 10 bucks crypto is dead!!"

    Reactance:

    Youd rather do the opposite of what someone is trying to make you do

    "DCA ey? All. In."

    Curse of knowledge:

    Once you understand something, you presume it to be obvious to everyone

    "Once POW migrates to POS the ethernet wallets will algoritmically softfork and consensus the solidation price"

    Self serving bias

    You believe your failures are due to external factors, yet youre personally responsible for your successes

    "I'll have you know I bought DOGE at the perfect fibonacci, it would pump if it werent for the power outage in Mogadishu"

    False consensus:

    You believe more people agree with you than what is actually the case

    "11 upvotes, I must be onto something big!"

    Naive realism / Blind spot bias

    You believe that you observe objective reality, while everyone else is irrational, uninformed or biased / We dont think we have bias, and see it in others more than ourselves

    "Damn all these paid shils shitting on the FreeWilly coin!"

    Gamblers fallacy:

    You believe future outcomes are affected by past events

    "BTC will dumps/pumps again when Chinese New Year"

    Survivorship bias:

    We focus on the things that survived a process and overlook the ones that failed.

    "All the current top 10 coins were on my watchlist at one point. It's a gift"

    Cryptomnesia

    We mistake real memories for imagination

    I dont have an example for this, just loved the name lol

    Clustering illusion

    We find patterns and clusters in random data

    "BTC always pumps the third tuesday within a week before or after it rains"

    Fallacy fallacy

    You presumed that because a claim has been poorly argued, or a fallacy has been made, that the claim itself must be wrong

    "This reddit post says I just think BTC will pump cause it confirms my existing beliefs, so it will prob dump"

    There are heaps more that are applicable to trading, but it already got way longer than intended. Please do add any additional ones in the comments or correct me if ive got some wrong (narrator: he had).

    Merry unbiased trading!

    The price of MOONs is almost meaningless right now

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 04:56 PM PDT

    I've been seeing a lot of posts talking about the price of MOONs recently, perhaps because we're getting close to a new distribution. But lost in a lot of the comments is the fact that the price of MOONs right now doesn't mean much for a few reasons:

    1. The trading volume of MOONs is extremely small. While these numbers might not be completely accurate, if you look at coingecko the 24hr volume of MOONs is ~$9,000.
    2. Perhaps most importantly, Coingecko lists the +2% depth of ~$400. This means that a buy order of only $400 can move the price by 2%. If you look at most coins in the top 100, you'll see +2% depth of hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. So congratulations! If you have a few hundred dollars you can be a market moving whale!
    3. The population of people trading MOONs right now is not representative of the general population. The people buying/selling MOONs are those that are willing to go through a somewhat technical and convoluted process. It's not far-fetched to think that they might have a different (higher or lower I don't know) value of MOONs than the general population using coinbase or (gasp) robinhood.

    All this is to say that I'd encourage members of this sub to stop paying so much attention to the price of moons for the time being. Once it hits some exchanges with real volume we'll have a much better sense about how much our shitposting has earned us.

    F**k this whole corrupted fiat system

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 11:22 PM PDT

    Everything is getting more and more expensive thanks to our corrupted economy. I just can't wait till I leave my 9 to 5 job one day. I hope we all play a part in making crypto more mainstream. Our gov is corrupted to the core and they're making leading our economy to a disaster. I hope things like these change once crypto becomes more wide spread. Sorry, I'm just pissed after so many bills popping out of nowhere for me this week. My rent just went from 1200 to 1600. It was 850 when I first moved in. it was increasing every year but this year it just went over the roof.

    Decentralization is the only solution to stop our corrupted gov from abusing our money's value. I'm pretty sure a lot of you here are facing similar issues and some are facing even worse issues. I hope we all make it to the other side. Hopefully, I mange to keep a roof over my head by the end of this year, I'm just a kid who's trying to survive in this stupid economy. Let's push crypto forward and have it more mainstream, If you own a business, consider accepting crypto. Whenever you're paying for something, always ask if they accept crypto so even if they don't they might consider it. I know this isn't much but hey, better than nothing. Again, sorry if this post is stupid, I'm just trying to let off some steam. Love y'all.

    21 Accounts received maximum karma for Moons this month. Let's see how they did it.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 03:17 PM PDT

    I did this a while ago and people seemed to get a kick out of it. It's best done on the day of the snapshot. Go to a user's profile and sort by "top" and then "month" to see what earned them karma for that month.

    15,000 karma is the cap, which in this distribution is 4,560 Moons. That equates to $376.54 in today's prices.

    The latest distribution snapshot is here:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/ofss7k/new_moons_distribution_round_15_proposal/

    Rank Method
    1 A couple good link posts and several high-rated comments
    2 High volume of comments, top ones up to +150
    3 A few top comments that hit the 1,000 karma cap. Lots of other high rated helpful / interesting content
    4 A couple top comments and a lot of daily discussion posts
    5 A couple quite well upvoted comments and a lot with +50 - this guy seems pretty agreeable ;')
    6 I'm gonna call this man "Captain Reddit" because he frequently gets top comments in several subreddits
    7 I think this user might have been responsible for the recent reminder that upvote solicitation is not allowed..
    8 A couple whopping front page links and several top comments maxing karma limits.
    9 Lots of highly rated comments
    10 Has about 30 highly-rated links, mostly about Elon & Doge.
    11 Lots of top comments and high-rated comments, averaging around 150-200 karma per. Wowzarooni
    12 Again lots of top comments, and possibly one of the sassiest posts I've seen on this reddit.
    13 A few high rated comments and lots of low-rated ones
    14 Same as above
    15 Same as above
    16 I think we have a contender to Captain reddit here!
    17 Lots of top comments & some sage advice
    18 Huge volume of low rated comments and Gif spam aplenty. Pretty much all in the Daily Discussion thread
    19 Same as above but with less GIFs
    20 Quite a few top rated links and helpful self-posts and an average smattering of 50 karma comments
    21 Lots of links. LOTS of GIFs

    So that's that then, quite a change from the last time I did this where easily the top way to earn max karma was to post links. Now it seems like only 3/21 accounts managed to get there with links.

    By far the most common method of maxing karma appears to be dropping in a few decent comments in threads. Another change from last time I did this was there were a lot less comedy-oriented comments. Being genuinely helpful or offering a hot take on the industry seems the best method for success in the Jun-July period.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 02:18 AM PDT

    So, guys I was waiting all along for a dip from last 10 days and literally when I didn't buy it was pumping all along. I got fed up and bought at $35000 and since then it started dumping. Happens with me all time.

    Next time I'll be giving you guys a little heads-up. Lord, I suck at crypto.

    We always ask "wen moon", but what if a ledger containing a token is literally sent to the moon?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 12:19 AM PDT

    Astrobotic Technology, the largest NASA contractor, has just partnered with a crypto project (not DOGE) that will send a ledger as payload on their peregrine mission one late 2021 / early 2022. What do you think would its impact be in the CryptoCurrency industry?

    The time Elon Musk announced that he's planning to do it, it got worldwide media attention. I think if this ledger on the actual moon becomes successful, it will be all over the media bringing a spotlight to the CryptoCurrency industry. Would you consider it a milestone, bringing a whole new meaning to "wen moon" posts?
