The Case For Promoting P2P and OTC Growth

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 09:49 PM PDT

We started a telegram community to advance the vision of P2P cash for the world by discussing and encouraging a more direct means of exchanging fiat to Crypto. (In this case BCH on-ramping).

Direct exchange!? Red flags yes I know but hear me out.

We aim to reduce the need to rely on popular fiat payment gateways such as credit cards, banks and electronic payment processors to obtain cryptocurrency. This is for a very good reason.

Through out history, a product often only gained mass adoption because the number of retail outlets grew significantly. Exclusivity is not going to result in mass adoption.

There are other factors that drive the need for re-evaluating the current distribution strategy:

    1. We believe that one way governments and other entities censor access to cryptocurrency thereby discouraging and slowing down adoption is to restrict access to the existing fiat gateways. If you can't find an easy way to buy it, you can't get it, and you can't adopt it for everyday use.
    2. We believe another way adoption is censored in many parts of the world is to make it costly to acquire crypto. The cost of converting fiat to crypto in many parts of the world act as a disincentive to adoption. While an exchange between two BCH holders for instance may cost 1 or 2 cents, most conversion from fiat to crypto may cost at least 1% -3% of the fiat value. This significant hit on one's fiat makes a casual switch of fiat to crypto and back unattractive especially for every day transactions.

Our proposal to reduce or eliminate these challenges involve promoting the growth and expansion of

    1. Peer-to-peer (P2P) trading platforms who have the luxury of not setting fees in percentages.
    2. Over-the-counter (OTC) exchange that encourage existing shops and merchants that have already on-boarded to BCH to also double as (fiat <->crypto) swapping points. This can be achieved using already existing software and tools.

We acknowledge the regulatory hurdle to promoting OTC exchanges using on-boarded merchants, however, revolutions and change have had to endure some discomfort and often defy restrictions in order to transform society. History is replete with such incidents.

The community needs to commit itself to this cause of having physical outlets dotted across the globe where you can get your crypto like you get your coffee and groceries.

We should continue to invest ourselves in figuring out how to get to the vision of true "peer to peer cash for the world".

I recently started moderating r/cryptoadoption and posting adoption related things there... now it's gone

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 06:21 PM PDT

    Turns out it was this:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/o5ymis/an_update_on_creating_new_opportunities_for/

I'm... just blown away about how stupid this was. Feel free to call me out if this seems reasonable to you.

First of all: Please do not witch hunt reddit admins or pile on elsewhere. I've posted to r/bugs and r/help and we'll see how it goes. I'm just here in r/btc to ask the community for help figuring out what happened, and moving forward. Here's the story.

I was recently granted moderator privileges for r/cryptoadoption:

    https:/np.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/comments/nzqwod/requesting_rcryptoadoption/

Today, r/cryptoadoption appears to have completely disappeared, and I'm now apparently a mod of r/a:t5_dwu6s/, which has had all of r/cryptoadoption's post history copied over.

Is anyone aware of anything like this happening before? If it's a bug, it's a pretty wild one, I guess.

I wonder what the chances of getting it back are... if I go to r/cryptoadoption and try to start it as a new subreddit, it says it's taken, even though I got there from the page saying that it didn't exist.

Question Regarding Network Upgrades + BTC/BCH

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 07:30 PM PDT

So BCH was basically created when Bitcoin developers couldn't reach a consensus on whether to expand block size or not. I personally don't think Bitcoin is viable at this block size going into the future (fees were close to $100 when demand was peaking in April/May and that was only a fraction of the demand that is possible moving forward)

What happens in the future if Bitcoin developers agree block size needs to be increased? Will Bitcoin then essentially be Bitcoin cash and render Bitcoin cash without a true use case since Bitcoin will have the name and same features? Or is it not possible to increase block size now? Can someone explain this to me like I'm 10?

Install it from Google Play, or download the APK from electroncash.org.

    Changes:

    • Add support for multi-signature wallets (thanks to Aldin-SXR for implementation, and everyone who donated to the fundraiser).
    • Add wallet information dialog where the master public key(s) can be viewed (thanks to Aldin-SXR).
    • Add sweep private keys command (thanks to im_uname for donation).
    • Reorganize top-right menu:
      • Wallet commands are now at the top, and transaction commands at the bottom.
      • "Show seed" has been moved into the new wallet information dialog.
      • "Delete wallet" and "Rename wallet" are no longer in this menu. To access these commands, close the wallet first, then pick it from the wallet list, and the password dialog will have buttons for them.
