PSA: There's a new version of the EVGA 3060 that doesn't work with 470.05

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 01:33 PM PDT

Card won't be detected by the driver as anything other than a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Other, older 3060 works just fine with 470.05. Both cards are detected as RTX 3060s with the newest 466.77 driver though from Nvidia's website.

No LHR or other markings on the card itself, same Part Number 12G-P5-3657-BR. Card that won't work says BIOS Version 94.06.25.00.63 above the PCI-E connector.

Anyway, thought I'd give folks a heads up.

Crypto-paid MD-Simulations next to Crypto mining or replace after EIP-1559

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 09:00 AM PDT

    Hello everyone!
We are a startup called Neonious Biotech and are currently in our pre-ICO. Our mission: "We are building the largest network of computers running molecular dynamics simulations, rivaling expensive supercomputers built for medical research."

A molecular dynamics simulation is a tool, which allows us to see what happens in the cells, at a scale where no light microscope works. More precisely it is simulations of the movement of atoms and molecules on a computer which helps to design and audit medical drugs in order to make them more reliable.

The idea is, that we are building a network out of people who would like to run our software for MD simulations and getting in return their share of what the research groups pay. It is somewhat similar to the Golem project, but we are actively talking to researchers, and we are using an established software called GROMACS for it.

Our company has already been talking to researchers and research groups and receiving positive feedback. This resulted into the first paid MD simulations already being scheduled for September 2021! The sponsor of the first paid MD simulations has enough MD simulations in the queue and has committed to a good portion of these simulations on the Neonious network.

To get this done, everyone will be invited to take part by installing the Neonious MD simulation software on their computer and run MD simulations in exchange for MDSIM tokens which can be traded to real currency. Currently, this software is being tested. A public beta test is scheduled for mid-July 2021.

If the test is successful, we expect to receive large contracts. Until now, the researchers we have talked to are really interested in the product. The reason for this is that the research grants are usually not that massive, and they are into alternatives which are cheaper than cloud computing and supercomputers.

Our software will be able to get installed next to your favorite crypto mining software. Our software can switch off crypto mining for the duration where there is an MD simulation order and turns it back on afterwards (scriptable). This is profitable, because researchers pay more for the MD simulations than you can generate with Ethereum mining. For a full day of MD simulation, with a GeForce RTX 3080, that is $ 15, for a month $ 450.

You can find more information at: https://www.neonious.org/en/RunNode
(e.g. about details like the MDSIM token we will use, etc.)
You can also register now to get an update about the start of our beta test (planned for July).
    Complete timeline:

    - Beta test in July
    - Then we have a security audit
    - The final version will be online in August, ready for our first simulations early in September.

We really look forward to the collaboration with you!

HiveOS worker offline after swapping GPU

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 12:07 PM PDT

I shut off my rig that was running a 3060 and replaced it with a 3070 and now it will not appear online.

I deleted the worker, created a new one, and updated the rig.config on the flash drive but that did not fix the issue. All fans are running.

What other troubleshooting methods can I use?

Has anyone gotten a GPU from shopblt?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 07:03 AM PDT

I placed an order around December and the eta has changed alot. Did anyone who ordered a GPU actually recieve one this year?

My local microcenter is now only selling gpus in the morning and handing out papers to people in line so I don't have that option. Any advice is appreciated

    Cost per day calculations.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 10:38 AM PDT

Please let me know whether I've got this right or not..

    Gpu = 120W, Hours = 24h

    120W x 24h = 2880Wh = 2.88kWh

Electricity cost $0.25 per kwh, so..

    0.25 x 2.88kWh = $0.72

So for every 24 hours that my gpu is mining equates to a 72c cost in power?

Which coins are you most excited about other than ETH?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 05:05 PM PDT

We're starting to reach the point of where it makes sense to mine other coins. Even if you support ETH 100 percent if something is more profitable it's silly not to mine it.

    Windows rig crashing

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 09:02 AM PDT

It all started after adding 2 new cards onto hive, everything seemed fine for 2 hours and then it went crazy. Restarts every 5 minutes etc. I switched to windows setup everything Ocs used: 3080 : - 200 1300 65 power limit amd 70 fans 3070: - 200 1200 55 pl 70 fans 3060ti : - 500 1100 65pl 70 fans

    The rig worked stable for 30 hours then crashed Next thing i did is reducing the ocs 3080: - 100 1200 65pl 72fan 3070: 0 1100 55pl 72fan 3060ti : the same

It achieved no difference the rig would work for a hour and then crash to bluescreen

To those who replaced thermal pads on the 3090, how are your core/hot spot temperatures?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 04:54 AM PDT

Have you seen an increase? I plan on using mine for gaming on the side but I noticed an increase in core temperatures after replacing the thermal pads on my 3080.

What are yours like when gaming? (if anyone actually plays games on their cards!)

Using RTX 3060TI now. Should I add additional GPU?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 08:36 AM PDT

Hey guys! I just started mining crypto with my current gaming rig.

Currently earning passive ~S$4.3* (after electricity) daily.

    *Based on following

    > Daily utility: S$1.8

    > Daily $SHIB mined: 650k

    > $SHIB @ $0.000007

    > GPU: Nvdia 3060TI, 8GB RAM (~50 hash rate)

I'm looking to add another GPU to the current one, will 3060 be worthwhile or what would you recommend? I'm looking forward to learning from all the great miners here!

    Thanks in advance!

    6700xt cranking out stale shares.

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 09:14 PM PDT

I have scoured the internet trying to get to the bottom of this. It's all been dead ends. I'm running it in hive OS. The core is 1300 and the men is 1025. If I go to 1035 or higher, the hash tanks and it'll just start racking up rejected shares.

I've tried pretty much everything except changing out the thermal pads. It's not really getting all that hot though. Hive is showing the memory temp at 56 C.

Anyone have any insight? I'm over here banging my head against the wall. I've swapped out Risers too.

Edit - It's an Asus tough gaming model.

    Vertical mining frame?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 07:08 AM PDT

I am tight on space and wondering if anyone uses a vertical layout instead of horizontal. I can only seem to find frames that offer the standard layout of "I I I", but I cant find any that would allow for "E". Is there a reason for this? Maybe it messes up the airflow or heat dissipation or something?

My RTX 3080 Vision shipped with the plastic still on the thermal pad.

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 04:34 PM PDT

My RTX 3080 Vision shipped with the plastic still on the thermal pad.

    *PICS BELOW*

So my new RTX 3080 was running SUPER hot from the day I got it.Idle 84c 110/2c hashing max 85 MH.

Opened it up today to find the stock thermal pad for the top memory chips still had the plastic attached on the heatsink side. Must of been a rough day on the factory that day lmao. Mem chips where also covered in oil which had drippped into the fans. Nightmare AVOID Gigabyte 3080s.

Replaced all memorys thermal pads on front with gelid extreme 2mm + added 3mm gelid ultimate to the rear.

Now idle is 70c, hashing comfortably @ 106.3 MH stable, memory goes from 88c > 92c depending on the room temp, so a massive difference. No longer have to use 100% Fan.

    Praise Gelid and their wizardy!

Excuse the dog hair lol dropped it on the floor.

Oil leaking from Mem chips 21 days usage o_o

Will the AMD 6700XT be compatible with X1 PCIe slot and riser?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 04:28 AM PDT

Hey everyone, so I have the following hardware for mining

    • MSI x470 Gaming Max motherboard

    • AMD Ryzen 5 2600

    • 2 RTX 3060 12GB

    • 2x 700w psu

If you're familiar with the RTX 3060 nerf, then you know that there's a dev driver installed on the machine, HDMI dummies plugged into them, as well as having the x16 PCIe slots set to x8 each and the risers being x16.

This means that the rest of the PCIe slots (with the exception of one being x4 gen 2.0) are X1 gen 2.0.

    My question is:

Will the 6700XT be compatible with the X1 riser and PCIe slot? Or will there be some bandwidth limitations?

AFAIK, the 6700xt being PCIe gen 4.0 should be backwards compatible with the gen 2.0 so I think I got that part figured out. But what about the riser and the pcie slots being X1?

The other question is upon installing the AMD driver, I should also be okay running the 3060s and the 6700xt, right?

    Thanks in advance.

P.S apologies if the question came off as dumb, I'm still traumatized from the compatibility issues I encountered getting my RTX 3060s up and running.

What are my other options to make a 6 GPU build at that price point including everything except GPUs and case? I already ha e one psu so only need one and that is ok.. my biggest problem is cpu.. thanks

RX 480 8GB Random color crash

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 10:41 PM PDT

Hello! Looking for help with my rx 480. I just got it second hand so I'm unfamiliar with its history. When under load initially everything is fine, after we get around 60-65C my system crashes and the screen shows a solid color. The system can be shut down and booted normally after this. Currently my main rig is down waiting on parts, so I'm using a stopgap PC i built out of scrap. Current specs are:

    Intel i7 860

    500W PSU

    8gbs of DDR3 ram

    1TB SSD

    RX 480 8GB (Driver ver. 21.4.1)

My down rig that i'll be using this week specs:

    i5 8600k

    1000W Modular PSU

    24GB DDR4 Ram

    1TB SSD + 240GB SSD

    Z390 UD Gigabyte mobo

    Thanks!

    Temperature vs fan speed

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:53 PM PDT

I have a 3080 ftw 3. If I want to mine for the longest time which config is better knowing that I don't care about noise:

around 61C at 90% fan speed or around 70C at 68% fan speed.

Is this drop in temperature worth the substantial increase in fan speed in the long run?

AKA: What are the long term advantages of 70C vs 60C and how much faster will my fans die if they are at 90% vs 68%.
