If you are a student, focus on your studies.

    Posted: 02 May 2021 01:35 AM PDT

I am 30+ yo now. I used to be a student 10 years ago. Now I have a decent job. I can't help but think in which mindset are students who lately made some quick gains. If you did take some gains, I can only congratulate you, you probably did better than most of your student peers who are probably not fully aware of what crypto is.

But be aware that once you make your first gains, there is something I call the "casino effect". It pushes you to take more and more risks. I think it can be even amplified as a student because most of you don't have yet a monthly income. I remember that each penny counts and insane gains can start turning your head. At the same time, you are in the period of your life when you need to make very important decisions.

Lately, you might read about young Samsung employees quitting their jobs in South Korea thanks to millions of $ they earned in crypto. Or read cool posts about huge gains and lambo. And you might think there is no good reason to study anymore. Strangely there is not much about people ashamed of massive losses.

My message is for you to keep in mind you must measure your risk. Crypto is great but who knows when the rollercoaster ends or when you will make bad moves (we all do). You can not rely only on that. Hopefully the recent dip made you realize that. Please treat your study as your top priority and crypto as a bonus. If you make it in crypto, that would be amazing. If not, you still have a diploma and a good option in life.

    • Crypto = great
    • Crypto + job = better

Don't gamble on your life. Don't have regrets. Decision is only yours.

Your crypto older brother who wish you good in life.

What I Wish I'd Known Before Investing in Crypto...

    Posted: 01 May 2021 06:24 PM PDT

Here are a few gems I learned the hard way... sorry about the frustrating Reddit Formatting.

    1. Do Your Own Research. Don't just pick a coin shilled by some clown like me on Reddit or an advisor on YouTube. Your Uncle Tommy might not be as smart as you think. Do read and research to find a project that makes sense and has a real world use cases - good tokenomics and development teams. This leads to...

    2. There are NO GET RICH QUICK SCHEMES! ☆Thus, stay away from S***Coins!☆

The Reddit groups such as Satoshi Street Bets and Crypto Moon Shots are not your friend. Anything guaranteeing a 100x -1000x profit is a crook, and rug pulls are common by these developers. This is why people on this Reddit sub get so frustated by people who can't see the dangers of meme coins with no use cases. Most of these coins have less chance of winning than the lottery in your state.

    1. Make your portfolio strong. This means putting more $ in original, safer coins such as BTC and ETH, with much lower percentages in Alt coins such as VET, ADA, DOT, ALGO, and the like. The alt coins carry higher chances of gains, but also much higher risk of losses. You do want to diversify for risk management.

The older you are, the more conservative you may want to be. Many people like the strategy of profiting on their smaller coins and putting the profits back into BTC and ETH. My personal strategy is 70:20:10 with 10% in Alts.

    1. Spend only what you can afford to lose. I know people are sick of hearing this...but I remember stories from 2017 of people taking out 2nd mortgages and selling cars to buy Crypto. Their finances were Rekt very quickly. Right now during this bull market, we all are happy. This can change overnight.

    2. Don't FOMO ( fear of missing out) into a coin. If it's nearly at its high, It can and will likely consolidate and go down; you can always buy in at the dip in price. Be patient. This leads to:

    3. Use DCA. Dollar Cost Averaging has been shown by experts to be the best trading strategy in crypto. DCA means buying coins on a regular schedule, hopefully lowering your average costs over time. You can also DCA/buy the dips, but you never know when a crypto is at a low, so pure DCA usually works better.

    4. Don't PANIC SELL! This is usually the first mistake newbies make in order to cut their losses. I know I did. Had I never panic sold, I would be up about 70% higher than I am today. This panic selling also happens in a bear market, when losses can hit 30% in day. Everyone wants to sell at the same time.
When you are in doubt about your coin's recent dive, zoom out on the price chart to look at a year or 2, and you will realize most 20% dips come right back up.

    5. Hold on to your coins, especially if you bought them because you believe in their future. You will make more money Holding than selling and buying another Crypto almost EVERY TIME. HODL!

    6. Invest in a hardware wallet when you can. You can keep coins on exchanges or "hot" (online) wallets when actively trading, but take the crypto out when you can for safety. Some exchanges do not give you a seed phrase: many say "Not your keys, Not your Coin."

    7. Have an exit plan. Some people take out their original investment and play only with the house money. Others take profits when a coin reaches a certain % gain or value. Set a goal and use it. If you wait until the bear market you may not have profits to take.

    8. Leverage trading is for idiots fools and you can lose much more then simple investing. Wait until you're 75, and if you are still alive and heavily in the market - then maybe leverage trade.

    9. Don't watch your phone or computer all the damn time. Unless you're a successful day trader (less than .05% of people, experts say) you don't need to watch prices but 2 or 3 times a day. What you find should not change your strategy, unless BTC drops to 10k and you want to buy in. Stress kills.

    13. It's just money. A high percentage of people in Crypto just want to get a lift out of poverty and gain some savings. A little money can mean a lot to some of us. But money is not worth your health, family, career, or life.

    Good luck and Make Money!

I am LOVING the fact that ETH is moving independent to BTC

    Posted: 01 May 2021 10:15 AM PDT

Although BTC started to tank a little today, ETH just reached a new ATH around 2920$ it is so exciting to see it moving on its own. This is only good for the future of crypto as a whole.

Maybe in the future this will change the time we spend at a bear market because not everything's tanking at the same time.

Let's face it Doge could end up a success...

    Posted: 01 May 2021 03:55 PM PDT

The only value any currency has, is the value the people believe it has.

    • Yes doge has no other value other than a currency, and Bitcoin already has that roll.

    • Yes other cryptocurrencys have more use cases like smart contracts and dapps

    • Yes dogecoin is mined at an insane rate, so every second it is losing it's value. (Funny how crypto bro's will always point out the way governments are over printing cast, but dogecoin is cool)

But fuck it if Elon Mush can pump it on SNL and the ignorant public thinks it has value... Well then it has value.

The value of crypto is what people believe it is

Anyone else finding themselves quitting bad habits for crypto?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 10:19 PM PDT

I'm not a smoker or drinker, but cigs and stuff cost a ton of money to fuel a drug addiction.

For me, my bad habit was spending stuff I never use. I had a video game console I bought years back and never really played stuff on it much. Now I look at stuff I'm enticed to impulse buy and say to myself, "if I had invested in bitcoin instead, how much will I have in the future?" and that does the trick to stop myself.

Having the mindset of wanting to getting rich in an extremely small amount of time is dangerous.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 07:14 PM PDT

I observed a good number of people choose crypto over stocks or ETFs because they want to get rich quicker.

Crypto is not a place where you can rely on getting rich overnight. The stories about people becoming millionaires in days: realize that for every one who does, thousands else have failed. People thinking that being a millionaire can happen to them easily, comes to the point where people are chasing pumps in bad investments like Doge or Safemoon with lots of cash and getting burned. It's just greed.

Crypto is often a long haul, something to hold and be patient for, and those in the short term shouldn't have too high expectations of where their investment will lead, if they hold onto good projects.

Don't chase for the moon, let the moon come to you.

Just suck it up and buy a hardware wallet, I promise it's well worth it.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 07:14 PM PDT

If you're new to this sub, you've probable seen the advice everywhere to get a hardware wallet to properly protect your crypto. "Not your keys not your crypto" as the saying goes. However, I'm sure some of you are in the same situation I was, reluctant to buy a hardware wallet because of the "small" amount of crypto you own. Trust me, just buy one anyways. A hardware wallet is not only more secure, it's a lot easier to use. Instead of screwing around with multiple online wallet for different cryptos, you can have one for everything. Also, who knows how much your crypto will be worth in the future? There's nothing worse than being hacked because you were careless with your crypto that was worth 100$ at the time, which is now worth a few grand.

Go on trezor.io or ledger.com and buy yourself a base model wallet. Your future self will thank me.

    Moons have hit $0.10!

    Posted: 01 May 2021 04:13 PM PDT

It's been a long time, 353 days exactly since Reddit has released moons, and this is a pretty important milestone IMO, with 12 distribution cycles happening, close to 60,000,000/150,000,000 moons distributed, and a milestone of $0.10 per moon hit. I feel like moons and community points in general have a really bright future, and they have really changed peoples lives, because farming moons in some countries allows you to earn multiple times better than a minimum wage job. Onward to the moon!

Edit: for everyone interested in a guide to getting started with moons check this out https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/mw7gx2/guide_to_setting_up_your_vault/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Beware of shady YouTubers such as BitBoy Crypto

    Posted: 01 May 2021 12:37 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm mostly writing this in hopes that at least some of the newcomers, who are getting or will get involved with crypto and visit this subreddit, will see this and not make mistakes that a lot of people already did by trusting scumbag YouTubers.

Most of you already know about BitBoy Crypto, one of the biggest crypto YouTube channels out there. This guy is earning a lot of money from views he gets and paid promotions he does for different coins. However, despite all of this, he still has the nerve to mislead his viewers with clickbait titles and by promoting worthless coins he pumps just to dump his bags at inflated price to his viewers. Imagine what a greedy slimeball you need to be to do such a thing.

Take a look at this example: https://imgur.com/a/6ixQh1n

In this case it is obvious that BitBoy bought these small coins early, and promoted them right at the peak just so he can create exit liquidity for himself leaving all of those poor, naive people who trust him wrecked. Honestly, take a look at his face. That's a face of a man gets no sleep because his conscience is eating away at his soul every waking minute for all the lives he's ruined financially. What he's doing should be illegal, I hope karma catches up to him sooner then later.

My advice to all of you is to always do your own reasearch! Take every advice with a grain of salt, and don't trust anyone promoting a coin that will "make you rich quickly". Stay safe.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 08:36 PM PDT

Its all shills, bots, and people that have zero understanding and just want people to tell them what the next moon shot is. As I've tried to help some people to NOT throw 10k into Doge for a quick doubling, I was just spammed with bots and shameless shills.

This was on multiple crypto groups. I really hope the general population can really understand what crypto is and why it is somewhat soon.

    Another reason to hate FB.

Thank You to Those Who Tip Moons

    Posted: 01 May 2021 12:43 PM PDT

I was just poking around my vault and saw my 10 moons were actually from tips! Since I don't know how to thank these individuals personally I wanted to say thank you to everyone who tips moons.

In my country the dollar feels like it's x20 more powerful, so while 10 moons may not seem like anything in great countries like the United States or Canada, here these 10 moons are sufficient for a dinner for one. Dinner from strangers is unheard of here and many are hungry. I have to say thank you so much!

To everyone who's ever tipped a moons thank you, you never know who's on the receiving end or how much those moons can help given the location they live and how powerful dollars are in comparison. This community is amazing! Thank you so much for letting me be here!! =)

Warren Buffet's Business Partner Munger Thinks Crypto is "Disgusting"

    Posted: 01 May 2021 11:17 PM PDT

From a recent article on Buffet, and mainly about the rise of retail investing:

"On the value of cryptocurrencies, Munger said he did not welcome a currency that was "so useful to kidnappers and extortionists… Nor do I like shovelling out a few extra billions and billions and billions of dollars to somebody who just invented a new financial product out of thin air. I think I should say modestly that I think the whole damn development is disgusting and contrary to the interests of civilization."

Of course fiat currency and new associated financial products that are invented out of thin air (that you approve of) are exempt from these problems, aren't they Munger?

It is time to consider your holding strategy for the bear market.

    Posted: 02 May 2021 02:44 AM PDT

It feels odd just writing that in the middle of what is panning out to be a life-changing bull market, but as we approach a year since the last Bitcoin halving, the likely crash and bear market is no longer just a spec on the horizon.

As someone who is balls deep in alts, I've noticed a lot of posts talking about mid to small caps considered to be long term holds in the daily chats. This concerned me a little bit, so I thought it would be good to review a snapshot of the market just before the last crash in order to see which coins have survived and thrived 3 1/2 years later. Spoiler - you generally don't want to be in medium/small cap alts for the bear.

CRYPTOS RANKED BY MARKET CAP 7 JAN 2018 https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20180107/

For anyone that wasn't investing in 2018, take a look at the table linked above, also flick on to page 2 to see the top 200 cryptos of that time too. I would wager you haven't heard of a large proportion of them. That should be a huge warning straight away. A lot of your mid-small cap alts are not long term holds.

You'll see from the above link that most of the top ten cryptos are still there or thereabouts. Bitcoin, Eth, Litcoin, Ripple all big players with significant time in the game, plus a number of forks and a few new tech blockchains such as Ada. Many of the 2017 top ten are still there due to having first mover advantage, having built up a network effect.

However as you move out of the top 10 things start to change. Most of the top 20 are still live projects but many have lost ranking significantly. The top 50 have a few success stories such as VET and BNB, but the majority are down in ranking now with some dead projects.

Out of the top 50 the number cryptos that are either massively down in rankings or have failed completely increase significantly, and this trend keeps increasing out of the top 100. The smaller the cap, the higher the risk it is now down, or dead.

There's a lesson to heed here. Mid-small cap alts are great for the bullrun, especially the latter stages. But unless your alt has made a significant move towards the top 20 by the end of the run, there's an extreme risk you may end up losing money if you choose to hold it through a crash and extended bear market. Sure you might get lucky with LTO, 1Inch, FTM or MANA, but the odds are against you.

If you plan to stay in crypto beyond this bullrun, by far the safest bet is to convert your small to mid cap alts to a top 10 ( or maybe top 20) coin, with the vast majority of your holdings in BTC/ETHstablecoins for the bear.

Crypto moves fast, and the alt coin sectors that will boom in 2024/25 will be very different to those booming now. Far better to review the alt landscape around the time of ohe next Bitcoin halving, see which projects have survived and gained momentum, then start reinvesting in small-mid caps.

There are still huge gains to be had (5,000-20,000% in a year from the halving), so why risk holding for two years in a brutal bear market.

Hope this might help a few people down the line, good luck to you all!
