Why is the lawsuit a good thing for Ripple?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 04:14 PM PDT

    Hi,

I am a little new here so I'm sorry it's going to sound stupid.

I have only started reading about Ripple last week and the lawsuit. What I don't quite get is that people seem to be thinking of the lawsuit as a way for the coin to explode in price. Isn't it the other way around?

I understand that there are indicators of Ripple winning it. However as far as I know, lawsuits could take years and on a superficial level, lawsuits may come off as a danger sign to people in general who don't know much about Ripple, scaring them away from the project which is how I initially felt to be honest until I started reading a little more.

I feel like I'm missing something and I haven't done proper research. Anyone cares to explain why this is a positive thing even if Ripple wins?

What is a source I can follow to stay up to date in real time on all the important details related to the SEC lawsuit, without being spammed with almost irrelevant information?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 12:21 AM PDT

I don't want superfluous blogs that are written even when no new information has come out. If I have too much of this, I'll end up not reading any of it, and then won't stay up to date.

I want quick notes about updates in the lawsuit, and maybe a sentence or 2 about what it means.

    Thank you

    State of Ripple

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 12:54 PM PDT

Done research on Ripple and this is what I've got. Can you guys help me understand what I've missed / got wrong? Thanks

    How well does it sell

    • The basic sell is quite simple, Ripple allows you to move money fast and cheap.
    • It's open source infrastructure that facilitates the movement of money
    • I was reading the white paper and found it quite confusing to understand the technology behind how it works, but essentially not everyone in the network needs a copy of the ledger to process transactions which makes it faster

    How well does it work

    • The ripple protocol means that the 2 people dont need to trust each other to do the transaction. There is a 3rd party that trusts both of them. This works through the protocol searching the decentralised network for a chain of trust to be used in this particular transaction.
    • Transactions settled in 3-5 seconds (their website)
    • Can handle 1500 tps which is fast relative to other cryptos
    • Fee for transaction is 0.00001 XRP which sometimes increases if network is congested. This is roughly 1/1000th of a cent
    • Highly scalable is what they say on their website,I don't have any evidence to support this

How good for people and planet

    • Theres no mining. Instead Ripple relies on network participants validating the transactions and achieving consensus. There is significantly less electric power usage due to no mining.
    • Ripple created 100bn coins when they created the coin, and about 45bn are in circulation now. The rest are held in an escrow, or with Ripple. It is confusing to understand why these are held.

    How well is it governed

    • Don't know. The ledger is decentralised but Ripple the company control a lot of the coins/or in a escrow
