First thing he asked - "How can I use it?"

It's all about usage. Don't be tricked into the HODL bs. Your coins only have value if they are USED for commerce.

Also shameless plug for my startup Swype which is trying to get people to earn and spend crypto instead of Fiat

Gaze.cash - Video monetization platform using BCH

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 04:48 PM PDT

    Hi,

I've just taken live the first early version of Gaze.cash (https://Gaze.cash) a video monetization platform that uses only bitcoin cash as payment method. The core functionality is done.

You can upload videos and get paid by others watching them,

You can like/dislike videos only if you paid to watch them

You can re watch videos that you paid for as much as you want within a 24 hour window (after which you'd have to pay again if you want to watch the same video again)

Each time someone watches one of your video's your money comes directly to the address you provided

videos are currently served in 3 different resolutions, more options will be added soon. you can specify a timestamp for the video thumbnail you'd like.

Some obvious functionality (like searching) is still outstanding - currently all videos on the site just show up on the home page.

The player was written from scratch for gaze.cash, and even though its holding up pretty well in my own testing It isn't perfect yet.

Gaze.cash is designed from the start to be perfectly functional without ever needing an account for either watching videos or uploading videos, but some things will of course be nicer with accounts (like channels), account / channel implementation coming soon.

All videos are hosted on amazon S3, they get uploaded to S3 directly from the browser and they stream from there back to the browser, gaze.cash should in theory have no issues scaling up.

Please feel free to check it out, upload you own videos! watch other peoples videos! I will appreciate any feedback. Also don't hesitate to ask if something is unclear or if you'd just like to know more.

To start of with I uploaded some random movie trailers, but I'm hoping to see more videos soon!

I believe there’s reason to hold both BTC and BCH

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 04:25 PM PDT

I don't think there's good reason to be a maxi towards BTC or BCH. Diversity is what makes for a safe portfolio and being a maxi just means you have gotten too emotional about investing.

I wrote a short article on why I think it's important to hold both for anyone interested

    https://www.publish0x.com/bitcoin-blogs/should-you-own-bch-and-btc-xwqdlee

As far as I'm concerned, the only sensible way forward is to own both BTC and BCH

Chaintip's reddit bot has been refactored

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 05:21 AM PDT

Over the Easter period, I carried out a major refactor of Chaintip's reddit bot. Some things that were changed:

    • Switched from the twisted Python library to using FastApi and the repeated-tasks utility.

    • Switched from using python's %s notation everywhere to using f-strings.

    • Split the code out into multiple files instead of just two main files

    • Stopped monitoring the linked addresses to notify when a tip was being received (this was the main cause of the slow down as I'm not sure why I set it up this way to begin with!).

    • Used some pre-fetching to make less looped database calls (speed up from 10 seconds to 2 seconds).

    • Logging was improved.

    • Calls to both the Bitcoin Cash node and Reddit's API now happen with higher frequency.

    • The tippee's address was removed from the tipping message as many people found it disconcerting when the bot did not respond publicly. This also makes the tipping message much more to the point. This feature (send straight to the tippee without the bot responding) I don't believe was used much, but I have no way of knowing.

The number of code lines was reduced from 1583 to 1134.

The only potential issue at the moment is that last time the connection to the node broke, it didn't manage to reconnect, so this is one thing still to test and fix. The fix that I have in place currently may work but I've not had the time to test it. Other things might also randomly break (because refactor).

Give it a spin, let me know if it's fast and reliable enough for you now! :)

EDIT: Wow, thank you everyone. When I said 'Give it a spin', I didn't mean mostly on me! but I'm not complaining :D Thanks for your support!

I'm gonna thank people for tips above $10 on this thread and the rest by PM so as not to spam it (feels like a Birthday when I was still using Facebook!).

Request For Funds / Donation to promote Bch in Ghana

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 01:27 AM PDT

I'm Eric from Ghana, a Bch enthusiast/proponent. I got to know about cryptocurrencies in late 2018 and initially interested in Bitcoin. But then the fees were so insane and sometimes i had to spend more that i needed to transact in fees and it took so long to confirm transcations . I then started my journey to find better solutions to these problem and nature led me to BCH one day.. Since then I've stopped using BTC and from then completing all my transactions in BCH because BCH is the cure to BTC😂. Now the problem is many Ghanaians still don't know about BCH and they still search for better solutions and still literally cry over btc fees... So i started to spread the word via youtube and read.cash but i have come to the point where my capabilities are not enough to do so.. i used my phone to screen record and my phone got spoilt and even money to purchase data to upload videos is a problem. I also need to buy a real camera and improve my pc RAM to even screen record on my PC.. I also need money to edit the videos and of need be, tip some bch to people as a demonstration of how fast and easy BCH is. I ask fro help from you guys to donate to supportensure to promote bch in Ghana. Donate: bitcoincash:qzelyzs5wtcwv7rjy9v3nwjrvurd82hh5cvglv8q4a

Hey guys, i have been holding bch for few months now. Until today i never actually tried it in real life for payment. For the first time today I had the chance to send a friend 10 usd. Wow so easy. I think I fell in love with BCH even more now. I see the potential I see the light! I strongly suggest to anybody who has not tried it yet to give it a go and experience the cash system of the future!
