    Mining with Titan X ?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 05:16 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

I have 2 Titan X wich i dont use anymore and i was thinking if its worth mining with these cards ?

i have a EVGA GeForce Titan X Hybrid 12 GB and the other one is a normal EVGA Titan X.

Both cards are from around 2015.

Dont know if you could actually do some decent mining with this.

    Thanks

    Modifying an incompatible PCI-E cable.

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 04:58 AM PST

Any reason modifying an aftermarket PCI-E cable to suit a PSU a bad idea? I've got spare PCI-E slots on the PSU but can't find compatible cables anywhere. I followed a youtube demonstration to safely remove the pins.

    PCIexpress x16 port ribbon extender

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 02:58 AM PST

    Hi,

My pciexpress x16 GPUs are blocking the pcie x1 slots on the motherboard because of the size of my GPUs, i thought about using ribbon extender (pcie 16x male to pcie 16x female) so that I can gain back those slots, anyone knows if it works well for mining?

    THanks

Cudominer restarting exactly every 10 minutes. Any advice is helpfull...

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 05:06 AM PST

    Hello there ,General Kenobi ,

I have a very weird Problem and after trying alot of things i just dont know what to to do. First my setup. I use a dual GPU setup with a 3080 and a 3070 to mine ETH with Cudominer. Until a few days ago everything worked just fine.

But sometime it just started to restart the miner every 10 minutes. In the Jobs log its said its because the miner didnt receive any hashrate in 5 minutes. But thats impossible because the cards runs at 100% and revenue is only slithly affect from downtime, perhaps about 20-30% less revenue. not projected revenue. Real revenue.

I thought perhaps its because of the OC , i have the both run -500Mhz on core, +900 on mem, 75% Powerdraw, but after giving more juice and going lower on mem OC nothing changed. Still restarting the pheonix 5.5c miner exactly every 10 minutes

At this point I dont know what i could try. Internet connection checks out, PC as well. HWInfo tells no throtteling or any other problems. Thermals always around 60- 65 Degrees. On both cards.

Also no powerdraw problem, all in the green. The weird thing is, it worked for a moth in that config perfectly fine.

Any thoughts? Perhaps time to switch to another Miner? I have a hard time troubleshooting on Cudominer.

Best Coins to Mine with 2,3,4Gb Cards Now that they wont work with Ethereum

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 08:43 PM PST

Ethereums algorithm now requires over 4gb of vram for cards to mine with it making 4gb cards obsolete for ethereum, this means the market will be flooded with these cards. You may find yourself asking what do i do with these cards? The answer is vertcoin, it requires a 2gb minimum and is now the second most profitable coin available and the market volume has increased for 100% for three days in a row with 20% price gain. Its One click miner on their official site is also good for newbies to mine with. The reason this is still profitable is because A) This coin Is ASIC resistant, and focuses on being decentralized. This coin is special in many ways and is extremely profitable as of right now! So Dont sell your cards just yet!

Dual boot Windows 10 and HiveOS

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 12:45 AM PST

Hi all, hopefully getting a hold of a couple of rx 580s very soon and going to put them in my gaming rig. I want to use HiveOS when mining as its my understanding they'll run more efficiently on hive rather than windows.

Has anyone successfully setup a dual boot for Windows 10 and HiveOS? I'd like to be able to switch on the computer and choose what OS I want to boot. How would I do this please? Is it as simple as creating a partition on my windows SSD and installing hive on it?

Or.... Will the rx 580s mine just as well in Windows anyway?

    TIA.

How to auto start MSI Afterburner with Profiles in order?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 07:35 PM PST

My MSI afterburner cannot auto start at startup even thought I check the setting to auto start in setting. I think it's required administration is the issue and I just can't figure out.

Also, can I automated profiles in MSI Afterburner? For example, I want afterburner to automatically apply "Profile 1" for 3 minutes and then apply "Profile 2" for the same GPU. How can I do this automate this?

    Case for mining, need advice

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 04:19 PM PST

I mine as a hobby on a PC i also use to work and game on, i currently have two 3070 on a small mid tower case with almost no airflow and i am planning on changing it

In the future i might add a third card, so the question is:

is it suggested to take a full tower case in this scenario? would three cards fit? could i connect the third card via riser having it external to the case?

RTX 3080 Gigabyte OC - My Thermal Experience

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 10:32 AM PST

RTX 3080 Gigabyte OC - My Thermal Experience

Here's my experience with 3080 thermal pads. I am by no means no mining nor GPU expert, but my decision making for the below was guided by some of the excellent posts about issues with the 3080 cards.

Card: Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC.

    Phase 1: No Mod

As "out of the box stock", I was running the card with the following settings:

    Option A:

    • Power 65
    • Clock -200
    • Mem: +1200
    • GPU mem junction temp: ~104-108c after 30 mins
    • Ethereum Hash: 93-95 MH/S (on/off throttling)

    Option B:

    • Power 58
    • Clock: Fixed at 950MHZ (using curve)
    • Mem: +900
    • GPU mem junction temp: ~96-102c after 30 mins
    • Ethereum Hash: 80-85 MH/s (no throttle)

Although the 93MH/S was appealing, I simply had no intention of running my card at over 100c (ideally below the 95c the modules are rated for) for any prolonged time, so I defaulted to option B and took the hash hit.

    Phase2: add backplate thermal pads.

Next, I took the brave step to open the card (after lots of umming and erring) and decided to apply thermal pad on the back plate (behind the memory modules). I did not apply any pads on top of the MLCC at this point, just a square pattern, and i did not replace any of the existing white pads (I didn't want to tinker too much). I did not have any 3mm pads so i decided to apply 2mm+1mm pads (very hacky I know). I also applied a touch of thermal paste before finishing up.

Upon putting it back together, here were my results:

    Option B:

    • Power 58
    • Clock: Fixed at 950MHZ (using curve)
    • Mem: +900
    • GPU mem junction temp: ~94-98c after 30 mins
    • Ethereum Hash: 80-85 MH/s

Simply adding the pads (which Gigabyte should have done!) took the memory temperature down to below 100c consistently, but any tweaking to increase my hash caused temperatures to rocket above 100c. 94-98c was still too high and 80MH/s still too low for my liking.

Phase 3: replace the memory pads.

After even more toing and froing, I decided to replace the default thermal pads that were on the memory on the "top side" of the card. Once again I took the card apart, removed the 4 pads around the GPU chip, and replaced them with 2mm pads. I also decided to go back to the backplate, and I applied a 2mm pad on the MLCC modules (they were protruding so to my mind 3mm would have made stick out compared to the other 3mm backplate pads).

Upon putting it back together, here are the results (and yes I am surprised it made such a difference)!

    Option A:

    • Power 65
    • Clock -200
    • Mem: +1200
    • GPU mem junction temp: 84-88c after 30 mins
    • Ethereum Hash: 99-101 MH/S

    Option B:

    • Power 58
    • Clock: Fixed at 950MHZ (using curve)
    • Mem: +900
    • GPU mem junction temp: 78-82c after 30 mins
    • Ethereum Hash: 80-85 MH/s (no throttle)

Maxing it out after hours of mining at 88c has been a total game changer (and I no longer need to throttle myself down to 80MH/s).

    My backplate:

TLDR: I added backplate thermal pads and replaced the memory thermal pads for a 20c improvement!

Where to buy mining PSUs, risers, etc near Spain or Portugal? (Supplier)

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 06:27 PM PST

Hi guys. Im building a mining rig for the first time and know no suppliers of hardware in europe. I need the standard equipment, risers, psus (theres a nice 1200w hp platinum server model on local ebay but I prefer knowing the source supplier). I also see some pre-built rigs lacking only the gpus are those for sale somewhere aswell? Thanks
