Are we going to reach 3 MILLION ETH in the Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract today?

Can I "gift" 15k in ETH to my friend's wallet so they can cash it out without either party being taxed via the rules of gifting?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 03:58 PM PST

This could save me capital gains tax as well as the 10% my student loan repayment plan will go up next year.

Legit to do? If so can you show me where I can read about it?

What happened to enforcement of the price discussion rule.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 09:53 AM PST

The rule is still there in the sidebar "Keep price discussion and market talk, memes & exchanges to subreddits such as /r/ethfinance/ or /r/ethtrader"

Recently every other post is ridiculous price related shitposts barely above the level of idiocy seen on /r/wallstreetbets.

Feels like this sub is really going downhill.

EDIT: I guess mods are people and have to sleep like anyone else; I see at least today's shitposts have been deleted.

Im curious, where does one start?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 05:25 PM PST

I'm currently 18 and have a few thousand saved up from high school. I'm interested in investing in ethereum but have no clue where to start. I have so many dumb questions to ask such as what is a wallet, why are there so many, which ones can I trust, and a video I saw talked about coding and ethereum. I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit to start asking question as someone with no prior experience. Any info on where to start learning the basics would be much appreciated. I am entirely new to Cryptos in general.

    I love this crypto

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 07:17 PM PST

I love this crypto . I invested 30 dollars because it was leftover in my Coinbase last week. I was amazed to see it's performance today. Ive been doing some reading and I think Ethereum has a crazy potential for growth in the next 10 years. Just wondering if anyone has any buy targets in mind. I'm looking to buy big on the next dip. Thanks! Godspeed

Edit: sorry I called it a stock haha I'm cold and tired! My head no work so good rn

Can someone please do an ELI5 for ETH2?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 12:43 PM PST

I very recently got into crypto and don't really know much of the technicality. I'm currently hodling very little BTC and ETH. My questions are: what really is ETH2? How is it different from ETH? Will it be a completely new coin; if so when it come should I be trading my ETH for ETH2, or not? Or will ETH just become ETH2 and I wouldn't have to do anything and can just keep hodling? Thank you in advance!

    Block reward decrease discussion

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 06:46 PM PST

Since 2020 January price has increased by 15x while hashrate only have increased by 2.5x meaning a 6x increase in return to miners just from the block reward. On top of the block reward miners are now paid on average in January 2021 an extra ~1.35 ETH in fees per mined block compared to in Jan 2020 when fees were basically 0.

This meaning rewards paid per block is up 10x from a year ago, with that said I'm mainly interested in having a discussion but from my own point of view I think a 25% decrease to 1.5 ETH per block is fair.

I feel like now is the time to bring this discussion to light with the Berlin hardfork around the corner.

    Should I be staking?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 06:24 PM PST

I just realized I could be staking my ether rather than parking it on a Ledger. Should I be doing this?

[Noob question] If Ethereum has no limited supply, then who is printing/coining/digitizing new Ethereums?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:39 PM PST

    Greetings mates,

As I am new to Ethereum, my first question about it was "is it limited?" I looked up the answer, it was no.

My question simply is: Who controls the Ethereum supply in circulation? And can fake Ethereums be printed/digitized as with dollars and other physical currencies?

    Thanks in advance!

Forbes article about Visas future plans with Ethereum

    You might like this. :D

    TL;DR

"While his focus was initially on bitcoin, then other cryptocurrencies, USDC is built on top of Ethereum, meaning tiny amounts of the cryptocurrency ether are used as "gas" to pay for the transactions."

"Visa estimates that $120 trillion in payments annually are made using checks and instant wire transfers, costing as much as $50 each, regardless of the size of the transaction. Since USDC settles on the ethereum blockchain, transactions can close in a little a[s] 20 seconds and, importantly, can be done for nearly free, Visa believes its vast array of merchants could choose to use this nearly instant alternative form of payment. ""We worked closely with digital currency wallets to issue Visa credentials,"" says Sheffield. ""And helping them receive USDC payouts can add additional value for them."""
