    Ethereum and scarcity

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:57 AM PST

    Hello!

I am new to ether and have a question about the scarcity aspect.

Is it possible for ether to become more scarce? Or will it always have a steady supply that's mined and so in the long term it can not crack the same price point that bitcoin?

Will eth 2.0 affect this in any way?

    Cheers

Any more info on Geminis new “Earn” feature

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:33 PM PST

Supposedly we can earn a little over 3% on ETH and BTC and can withdraw at any time. I don't see any info about transfer fees or how it really works. Anyone else have more info?

I want to use DeFi but Gas Fees are so High

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:32 PM PST

Hi everyone, I'm an active DeFi user. I want to supply more liquidity to a Bancor but a small deposit wants me to pay a $250 gas fee. I noticed that if I change the gas limit to 21,000 but keep a decent Gwei (right now around 140) then the gas fee drops to an acceptable amount.

Will this workaround ensure my tx goes through? I don't mind paying $15-25 to interact with DeFi because it's fun for me and I like supporting Ethereum protocols, but I can't part ways with $250 of ETH just to be in DeFi. Thank you.

How a DAO could take the GME case to a different level

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:55 PM PST

While it may rather seem to be a post for r/ethtrader, this is a post in which I try to make the case for how a DAO could supercharge what r/wallstreetbets did with GME: a collaborative attack on a billion Dollar hedgefund.

I didn't know wallstreetbets before the short squeeze of the GameStop stock and as many people I had to read into what was actually happening. Skimming through media reports the narrative seemed to be plain and simple "Reddit rascals tricking Wallstreet suits". However, if you follow the topic closely on Reddit, you can clearly see that for some people including u/deepfuckingvalue (I highly recommend to check out this post on r/video featuring his original analysis) this was neither a get-rich-quick scheme nor some joke. People really liked the idea to have the hedgefunds by the balls.

I personally don't think that this sentiment will eventually last (although I hope to be proved wrong). There may be even more people on the Subreddit claiming to hold with diamond hands, however overall there is a lack of proof that people DID hold, contributing to an increasing lack of trust - because people don't know for sure what the majority plans to do or is already doing, people lose the ability to act as a collective.

Now, dealing with a lack of trust even in an environment where people are highly suspicious of each other is somewhat the core feature of cryptocurrencies. A DAO that is able to buy stocks based on the vote of a group of people would allow investors to not only join forces but also to effectively eradicate the prisoners' dilemma that GME stock holders currently experience. This provides retail users with unprecedented powers.

Of course, joining forces is possible for everyone, retail users and bankers - but the wallstreetbets case shows that in the end a viral social media movement can be pretty powerful, at least relatively. The people who would join forces by adding funds to a DAO gain mutual trust and the ability to share risk, but they likewise share the gains and by doing so reduce them heavily. This makes it much less attractive for those who are mainly interested in multiplying investments short-term - people with a political agenda (flip the bird to Wallstreet) won't see this as a problem..

What would be needed is a DAO with a bridge to the stock market. Not as easy, but still possible in the very near future. I am half-sure, we might see this of solution within the next year.

Best practice for selling digital music / physicals directly artist-to-fan

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 10:53 AM PST

    Hello /eth,

I took part of a PHD research project which was exploring the use of Ethereum as a way for artists retain a larger share of their revenue by selling directly peer-to-peer*, having performed at the first ever blockchain ticketed live stream event in 2019.

I'm looking for any information / pointers in how to improve / create a webstore to sell music / digital art / physicals (vinyl) direct to fans. I want to make the transition from major stores / major streaming platforms to a direct fan-to-artist system inbuilt to our website (www.squarms.co.uk).

The system currently set up uses metamask (https://www.kanedarecords.com/squarmssheleftthetvon) and is somewhat clunky and less user friendly than i imagine it could be.

Are there any projects out exploring this further, or do you have any suggestions on how to improve this?

Also; is creating an ERC-20 token for an individual artist plausible? (for the purpose using it to buy music from said artist / invest in said artist / explore new possible artist-fan engagement routes).

Lastly - NTF's - selling physicals - would the intrinsic price of an NTF go up in tandem with the price of Eth? Could the value of a tape or vinyl increase in value over time through a platform like Opeasea?

Any thoughts or pointers would be great,

    Thanks

Cold storage air gap Ethereum wallet, WHAT DO PEOPLE USE?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:31 PM PST

I have been looking in to create a raspberry pi cold storage vault now I understand that the major limitation is the fact that SD card fries very easily with a power outage I was contemplating developing a raspberry pi with a ssd and using a camera as means of transferring from wallet to cold vault. Wondering if anyone had done this? If this a common thing to do or if this is just me? What wallets do people use? Thank you in advance

    Trading on leverage with ETH

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:26 PM PST

So I'm looking into trading eth with leverage and u want to get some peoples opinions /thoughts. I'm relatively new to this so I want to make sure I have this straight. If I can use 1 eth as collateral, say it trades at $1000, and I trade at 2x leverage, and I put in a long at 1000 for 1 eth, ETH would need to go down to 500 for me to get liquidated correct? I'm also not REALLY sure what trading at 2x leverage means in terms of profit. In the scenario i mentioned above, does that essentially mean I'm longing with 1 ETH?

if what I've said is correct so far, it seems like a relatively safe strategy with good upside. I plan to take small profits frequently, (using kraken so idt the fees are very high). I also plan to use stop losses and take profits. Thoughts on this?

What % of ETH supply will eventually be staked in 5 years?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 06:14 AM PST

What percentage of ETH supply can we eventually expect to be staked in 5 years and what will be the yearly ROI?

I know it's impossible to say but have there been any predictions by Vitalik or someone else as to how much they expect to be staked?

I've researched a bit and everything tells me to download the latest version of claymore, but I do have it downloaded and I'm still getting the same error message. Help??

    Accessing my Ethereum Wallet

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 10:07 AM PST

Hi, about 4 years ago I had Ethereum Wallet, and several Ethereum stored in it, working fine on my PC. I have let it go since then, and haven't launched the wallet program for years, but when I went back to launch it and just see how my Ethereum is doing, the wallet program first prompted me to download a new version, and now that new version is just spinning forever and not launching. After searching online, it seems others had this problem, and Ethereum Wallet has been discontinued? So how do I access my money? Can someone please help me (using simple language please)? I want to access my Ethereum, which to my knowledge is all backed up somewhere on my PC, but I don't know how.
