Posted: 12 Feb 2021 12:50 PM PST Some of the projects needs more than 5 years just to be fully operational (like Ethereum) but the transaction fees are just pure insanity right now. One bad news (like taxation on the gains or forced KYC against terrorism funding) and the whole space will crumble like a castle of cards and they will short it with 100x laverage without thinking twice. This can become the most epic bubble in the history of capitalism. You must be very naive to believe that Wall Street is not thinking about this now with their politicians friends. Unpopular opinion: the name of ‘bitcoin cash’ itself is preventing it from mass adoption Posted: 12 Feb 2021 11:53 AM PST I've been invested in bitcoin cash since 2018 (at $1400 each). I always believed that because of the low fees and the technology behind bitcoin cash, that it would be a top 3 (maybe #1) cryptocurrency. But over the years, I've found no support for the crypto. The only people IRL I've talked who know about bitcoin cash have a negative opinion about it. Even if BCH is better, the fact that it also uses the bitcoin name and includes "cash" in its moniker really confuses people. Yes, obviously people are supposed to use cryptocurrencies as money. But to use the term "cash" in the name really makes BCH sound like a fake currency. Not to mention people already think it's just piggybacking off the bitcoin name. I really want people to change their minds about it and give it a chance and learn more, but I've realized that many people are not exactly rational. Literally the only times I see BCH positively is in this sub, and the /bitcoincash sub. Literally no one else mentions BCH, unless they're in another crypto sub talking about how they just converted their BCH into something else. Or the occasional post bashing BCH on /cryptocurrency. Sometimes, I feel like this sub is just full of circle-jerkers who constantly bash on BTC. Which doesn't help BCH either. With all the negative sentiment people have around BCH, I am really starting to doubt that people will ever adopt it on a mass scale. I'm starting to feel like those outside the BCH community will always view BCH as a less-good/fake/undesired/hand-me-down version of BTC. If people just getting into crypto (or people looking for new cryptos) are really concerned about the fees, bitcoin cash is not the only low-fee, quick crypto with a cap on the # of coins. There are plenty of those out there. Also, this sub is always posting comparison pictures of "btc fees: $22, bch fees: 0.001", which honestly does not ring true for me. I use binance, Coinbase, Gemini, exodus, and more wallets, and I've never paid more than $8 in fees for a BTC transfer. And honestly, for how little I move my crypto, that's not that bad IMO. Even then, my transfer fee is usually only $4-6 (free if you don't do it too often on Gemini), so it annoys me to always see these posts, when they don't seem entirely accurate. Even in my area (Bay Area), only 1 restaurant accepted bitcoin cash when I started to buy BCH in 2018, and it's still the only one. There seems to be no new merchants for the last 2 years. To me, it seems like most of the newcomers would never pick or even bother to learn more about BCH, simply because of it's name and association. I believe that marketing is powerful, and that the name branding of bitcoin cash was a colossal mistake. I believe that no matter how good the tech is, that without mass adoption, BCH will just die. I sincerely hope that I am wrong, and that adoption of BCH will skyrocket. But until then, I'm losing more and more faith in bitcoin cash. The constant bickering, finger pointing, and name bashing, and the mistake in calling BCH bitcoin 'cash', IMO, will prevent BCH from ever being adopted on a huge scale. Can anyone envision a world where most people in the world actually think positively of bitcoin cash? It's truly unfathomable to me. But I'd love for someone to challenge my perspective.
