Can you mix and match riser components?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 02:41 AM PST

Are risers made to a certain specification? Can I use the base (the bit that plugs into the motherboard) from one manufacturer, and the top (the bit the card plugs into) from another?

Mining Frame for GPUs and HDDs

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 01:58 AM PST

    Hi!
Does anyone know of a mining frame that supports 4-8 GPUs and 8-10 HDDs? I run my mining GPUs on an Unraid Server and new hardware to split it apart is too expensive right now.

    Thanks

    How can I power 9 rx 480s?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 03:07 AM PST

So I already have a psu, it has 1700w and 6 6+2 PCIE connectors, I had my rig planned then I suddenly found an add for some cards.
Someone is selling 9 rx 480s for only 1000 dollars, the cards were used for mining but I think thats fine, I plan to only mine for around 2 years so they should last that long.
The question is how do I power them, my PSU doesnt have enough slots and I already bough it, is there some way to use that PSU and a server psu together or something, any help will be higly appreciated.

My first mining rig, is there something I am missing? +GPU RISERS question

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:53 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

So i've got my hands on a RTX 3060 Ti for my gaming PC, I ended up mining with it when not at home and im pulling a solid 5$USD a day, at this point ill reimburse my card in 120 days or less... So let's say that im hooked.

I've started ordering parts for a 6 GPU rigs (they will all be 3060 Ti's), I wondered if this all seems good and that I am not missing anything...

    What'ive ordered :

    Motherboard -Biostar H110 (6 gpu)

    CPU - Celeron G3930

    RAM - Corsair 1x 8GB 2133 MHz

    Adapter for 2 PSU's to 1 motherboard

Those risers :(VER 006 molex risers)

    What i'm left ordering :

My powersupplies... What is confusing me a lot right now is how the heck will I power my risers? Many people are saying that I should't use the cables given with the risers. People say you should use 1 cable straight from the PSU to each risers... The problem is, with most PSU, they only give 1 cable (6 pin to 3 molex ports), so per PSU i only get 1 cable. Now people say you shouldnt attach more than 1 riser per PSU cable... so i'll need to buy 4 more cables as I intend to buy 2 PSU's.

Are those the cables i'll need? Or is it these ones?

Also, do you think 2x Evga 850W will be enough? I intend to run my cards on around 130w each, imo it should be good?

Ideal GPU temp for rtx 30 series cards?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:38 AM PST

I'm relatively new to mining and I'm messing around with Hive OS in which I can set some auto fan settings for the rtx 3070 cards I'm running.

There seems to be mixed opinions on this but I wondered what people's views are on the ideal GPU temp they should be running at whilst mining? I have them currently at around 50C but wondered if I should let the fans run a little slower and target higher temps and still be safe,

What should I buy for a system consisting of a single gpu like the one in the picture?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:13 AM PST

newcomer ask if rig doing some +/- 100 mh/s at 400 W - made by 4x 3 year old GPU cards for $1500 -worth it when ETH 2.0 and EIP1559 ....

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:08 AM PST

based on calculations it would be some 5-7 bucks a day profit. (the question is how many days it can go uninterrupted to make it.) and plus when ETH 2.0 launch it would basically mean it's wasted money as I dont think it would have any worth as they aren't latest GPU's is it worth it? I have time as I don't do much...I know cards are not new, but there is not much of anything else

    3060ti temps and questions

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 05:20 AM PST

Recently purchased the palit dual version of this card. Had it running for a week inside my gaming pc on its own and been getting 60.5 mh/s @ 50-55 degrees ( fan speed 40 %) which is pretty decent.

Decided to move my 1070 into the slot below to mine with also and have it set up and running fine. Getting about 90 mh/s @260w.

My question is the temp of my 3060 has gone up to 60 ( fan speed 60%) is this ok long term? Like running 24/7. The 1070 is also 59/60 degrees.

    Thanks.

Setting up a second hand HiveOS rig as my own

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 03:55 AM PST

Friend moved out of town. Couldn't take his rig with him so I took it off his hands not knowing much. Figured it would be easier.

Kinda of in over my head. Looking for help

Right now I windows gpu mine on my gaming pc. So I so have a basic knowledge

His rig which he bought premade from a guy years ago auto boots to hiveos on a ssd. Starts mining to his settings and his wallet.

Any one know how I could change this to new settings ? I've never used hive. Only nicehash. The bios seems to be custom too. When I try to run nicehashOS off a usb key I get a bios warning and then it just boots to the ssd.

There is no gui or dashboard.

Rig specs Asus ROG B250 (from what to can tell) Celeron processor 8gb ddr4 Below cards are installed. All 580 8gb GPUs 2* sapphire pulse 2* sapphire nitro Xfx card Powercolour card

5 3080s, 1 3060ti, Problem with them all being recognized.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 08:42 PM PST

    Mobo: h110 pro btc+

    processor: intel g4400

    ram: 1x 8gb ram

psu: 2x 2000w 90+ gold power supplies with splitter

    vcards: 5 3080s, 1 3060ti

    os: hiveos on usb

oc: no overclocks at all. stock

I can boot up with 2 risers plugged into the board and the cards will be recognized just fine. The problem is when i try and do 3,4,5, or 6. The system starts up but nothing ever shows up on the screen and hive os never recognizes any of the gpus at that point.

Anyone ever have this problem or know what im doing wrong? i realize i am probably retarded so dont be afraid to rip me a new one. thanks

    1x 3080 & 2x 3060 Ti - what risers and PSU would you recommend?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 09:26 PM PST

I'm looking to step it up a little bit and have a PC with 3x 16x slots and a few extra 1x slots. The PC only currently has a 650W PSU and while that MIGHT be enough (250W 3080, 2x 120W 3060), I should probably get an 850W PSU or something, right? Any specific recommendations?

    Card cleaning

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 12:27 PM PST

    Hello!

I've got a rig that is running a little hotter than I would like it to be. I believe there's a buildup of dust that is insulating the heat in. While there are videos out there describing how to clean GPUs, I have never done it myself.

How fragile are they once open? I would like to take the time to clean them but am worried about damaging it in the process. If anyone has done this is the past I would love to hear about your experience,

    Happy Mining!

Best liveboot OS's, (or extremely lightweight compatible linux) for mining on a desktop rig?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 07:06 PM PST

I am looking for a liveboot linux that is no frills for GPU mining.

I am skipping NiceHash OS because I don't want to be tied down to NiceHash, even though I have been using them for almost 2 months. I am hoping someone has already made a distro something like this (or a package deal like a LAMP), but the projects I keep finding are very under developed or defunct (e.g., Cryptoslax).

    Need:

    • Lightweight enough that it can easily fit on a 2GB (1.86 Gb) flash drive; 1.5 gb would be perfect. NHOS requires +4GB, as does Ubuntu. Xubuntu requires 2GB, but I haven't tested it out with additional apps I will need to install.
    • Compatibility with current NVIDIA card/drivers, or allow for the appropriate drivers to be dropped into the flash/install process.
    • Compatibility with TRex, Phoenix, Excavator, etc.
    • I guess Ethlargement
    • Vim or some other wonderful text editor. This probably isn't necessary to say.

    Would like:

    • Anything Debian, but beggars can't be choosers

    Don't need:

    • GUI, definitely not a KDE
    • Any other software not necessary for booting a miner

If there isn't a distro (or distro suite) for this, does anyone have a preferred setup like this?

My specific use case is that I have a desktop with GTX 1080 and a work laptop with an RTX 3080. I often use the desktop for mining, but when I idle I am happy to reboot with the flash drive and mine more effectively. I don't want to install anything on the work laptop, but it has so much more power, so I want to use the liveboot occasionally.

    CFX mining? A waste?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 01:39 PM PST

On whattomine.com it told me that I make the most profit by mining CFX. So I joined f2pool and have been mining for a day with a 2060 Super. I made 13 coins apparently. One site says CFX is worthless and another says that amount is equal to about $2.50.

I don't even know if my payout will be in BTC or CFX.

So, I went to 2crypttocalc and it said I should be mining Etherium. So I looked into that and got onto 2miners. That site says set up T-Rex, which I remember is one of the mining/hashing algorithms on NiceHash.

So, should I just save myself a headache and run NiceHash and let it do it's profit-switching thing?

    RTX 3080 99MH/s

Nearly broke the 100MH/s but doubt it will happen, pretty happy with these results as they are stable and run perfectly.

    OC Settings aswell.
