    Decentralized exchange recommendations

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 12:24 PM PST

Looking for an open discussion on what decentralized exchange/s people think is/are the best and
why. I am thinking in terms of how feature-rich they are, how liquid, its security, and the number of
    cryptos it supports, etc.

Been looking around the internet for info like this but I can't seem to find any real solid sources, hence this post. There are a number of older (a year or more) reddit posts and discussions about this but I feel a more current one would help since the space is changing so quickly. Most internet sources are a bit older and have lists, but are hard to trust. I find it better to poll the community and follow that with more objective research.

    Thoughts on Ethereum’s culture

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 04:12 PM PST

I was initially disappointed to find that Ethereum's community and culture seems to be far less energetic and active than Bitcoin's. However, I think this is actually indicative of the power of Ethereum. Bitcoin, having little-to-no utility (which is perfectly okay), has to build extremely strong narratives to keep the perceived value high. Ethereum on the other hand, doesn't need these narratives because of the utility of the chain. Both are fine approaches, but when someone sees that there are less Ethereum memes and the price is still going up, they should see it as a positive sign of Ethereum's utility.

Maybe you can tell a token's level of utility by the non-correlation between its price and the number of memes about it.

    Just some thoughts!

Where do ETH 2.0 Staking rewards come from? Who sets the interest rate?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 05:32 PM PST

Done a lot of searching and still can't find this question answered anywhere. When I stake with Ethereum 2.0 where does that interest come from? Who sets it and how could it change? Is there some committee that's just deciding the interest rate like a central bank?

I understand how PoW blockchain rewards work, you get the block reward because you insert it there as the successful miner of a block. Does staking rewards work in the same way, where you pay yourself X% of the money you staked as you validate a block? If not how do you get that interest?

    Ethereum staking benefits

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 02:56 PM PST

    Hey,

I started accumulating eth in 2016 for a long time hold. Due to career and other personal reasons, I lost track of the crypto world.

Given this bull run, I've dusted off my holdings and was catching up with ETH 2.0 activities. I'm not looking to convert my eth to fiat yet, but would rather increase my holdings. Given this, I was looking into ETH staking and understanding the risks/rewards for it

    1. Would you say that I should run a dedicated system which can act as a validator. I'm afraid of computer troubles taking down my validator and then paying the cost of it
    2. Stake on Kraken/Binance. These exchanges have been there for a while, and have earnt my trust to a certain extent.
    3. A bit of my eth is on Coinbase, and they haven't mentioned when exactly 2.0 staking can begin
    4. Is there any other route you can suggest?

Apologies if this is missing information, I've been out of the crypto world for a bit and any suggestions/pointers would be helpful

Anyone have a list of ENS test vectors or some well populated names?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 07:05 PM PST

I checked vitalik.eth on mainnet, but that entry is pretty empty. I also checked unstoppabledomains.eth but it's pretty empty as well.

Anyone have some good entries that has any (or all) of: * IPFS context * IPNS context * OnionV2 context * OnionV3 context * BTC / LTC addresses * Any / All text records set

I'm certain there are some that filled this all in, I just don't know where to go to find them. I looked through MetaMask/test but nothing jumped out. Couldn't find anything in UD/src either.

Any hints for any of the testnet / mainnet networks?

Has anyone used coinbase as a way to exchange currency? Ex USD/Euro

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 05:39 PM PST

If I am moving to Europe and I have some Ether on an exchange (ex. coinbase) that I bought in USD, can I then sell my ETH for Euros. Then withdraw Euros into a European bank account that I will set up once I arrive in Europe and set it up the new bank account?

I know I can do this but would this be an efficient form of foreign currency exchange? Or would it just be cheaper to wire transfer/convert direct from USD to Euros?

I'm 17 and want to start buying ethereum

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 07:18 PM PST

Can I make an account on kranken pretending to be my older sister? I would only do this til I'm 18 which is 5 months away. After that I will make my actual account and send all the ethereum I bought on my "sisters" account to my real account. Ik its illegal but I dont want to wait 5 months to start buying ethereum when I could be making money from it rn. Is this a good idea?

Thinking about getting an Avado node???!

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 02:46 PM PST

    Hello,

I recently came across this Avado node blockchain computer that makes running a node or 2 super easy. Which has me interested. I like the idea of running a node on a smaller project that can really use my help and support get decentralized, and also the idea of potentially earning money doing so doesnt hurt. ( Any one know aprox what you can earn, I'm not thinking 1000's of dollars. the website says $25 a month roughly want to see if thats accurate.

Anyways if anyone has thoughts or experience with this please let me know

    Buying now or waiting?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 06:27 PM PST

I've always been interested in crypto, but I just now have the money to actually invest, although Bitcoin is out of my range. Obviously, any investment is inherently risky. With that being said, is investing in, say, 2 ether a worthy investment? Is it unlikely to lose my initial investment?

I'm very new to cryptocurrency and need some advice on what wallet I should use

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 05:01 PM PST

Some background info I'm 17 and from canada and have never used cryptocurrency. I dont have a ton of money but I have a part time job and have a decent amount for my age. I want to start investing in ethereum because it's a way better use of my money than just sitting in my savings account. I've been reading about it on ethereum.org and I cant figure out what wallet I should get. I think I should start out with a software wallet but i dont know which one. Any advice?

ETH is going up, so why are gas prices not going down?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 04:55 PM PST

Considered relative to some arbitrary fiat currency, take USD for example, ETH has doubled in value recently. If everybody keeps paying the same gas fees, that means the miners are getting twice the USD in transaction fees as before. Shouldn't they be accepting lower gas fees? And yet gas fees have gone up? That makes no sense. According to Etherscan, network utilization has stayed relatively constant the last few months.
