Does anyone know when the court will reconvene after prosecution receiving the docs from Tether on the 15th? Is there a date set for when they will present their findings or when we'll know anything? Can't find anything regarding this and I'm super interested to follow.

why was block compacting never done?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 08:07 PM PST

i've seen this in the white paper:

Reclaiming Disk SpaceOnce the latest transaction in a coin is buried under enough blocks, the spent transactions beforeit can be discarded to save disk space. To facilitate this without breaking the block's hash, transactions are hashed in a Merkle Tree [7][2][5], with only the root included in the block's hash.Old blocks can then be compacted by stubbing off branches of the tree. The interior hashes donot need to be stored. A block header with no transactions would be about 80 bytes. If we suppose blocks aregenerated every 10 minutes, 80 bytes * 6 * 24 * 365 = 4.2MB per year. With computer systemstypically selling with 2GB of RAM as of 2008, and Moore's Law predicting current growth of1.2GB per year, storage should not be a problem even if the block headers must be kept inmemory.

is there some reason why that can't be done? the bitcoin blockchain, the longest so far, should only be 4.2MBx10 years = 42MB total?!

Electron Cash 4.2.3 is now available for Android

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 05:14 AM PST

Install it from Google Play, or download the APK from electroncash.org.

    Changes:

    • Fiat display is now enabled by default in new installations (currency can be changed in the settings).
    • Amounts can now be entered in fiat (thanks to im_uname for donation).
    • A notification is now shown whenever a wallet is open, which makes the app less likely to be killed when in the background.
    • bitcoincash: URLs can now be pasted into the Send dialog address box.
    • Fix layout for RTL languages such as Arabic.
    • Fix crash when clicking "Sign transaction" in a watching-only wallet.
    • Many performance and responsiveness improvements, especially for large wallets.
    • Minimum Android version is now 4.3.

    Future of BCH?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 01:52 PM PST

I was a bit out of the loop for awhile. Development wise, what kind of things are on the horizon? Is a lot of the abc roadmap still applicable? Is there any consensus on a new hardfork schedule? Block size increases or things to help with that?
