Posted: 12 Dec 2020 08:21 PM PST Hello everyone, I was recently a victim of a scam known as Sim-Swapping. Sim swapping is when someone pretends to be you telling your phone provider rep that he/she lost the phone, someone in that company is bribed, or is purposely swapping your sim. Once your sim is swapped, they are able to reset your password in certain websites, in my case it was yahoo. Yahoo sends a verification code to my number to reset my password. But it's not me that is requesting a password reset, it is the scammer using the sim swapped phone. Once the password is reset, they now have access to my personal email account. From then on they start changing your other account passwords such as gemini, coinbase, and other companies. Once that is done they request withdrawals in the accounts. They have your number & email now so they confirm withdrawals. I lost about $600 in Bitcoin like this. I changed my number and stoped using 2fa sms. Please, DO NOT USE sms as a means to verify. Use authenticator apps, or keys. Also DO NOT keep your funds on the exchanges, use a cold storage like trezor or ledger. Although ledger was recently compromised and lost personal info of clients. They still don't have access to your coins even if they know your life's story, they need the key. BE VERY CAREFUL of phishing scams. Sometimes they know your name, number and pretend they're a company familiar to you saying you were "hacked" or sent money to another account and if that was you. DO NOT BE LAZY, MOVE YOUR FUNDS outside the exchange. [link] [comments]

Should bitcoin ATH be inflation adjusted? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 01:14 AM PST I know ATH is more an emotional metric than anything else, but I just started thinking about this. In 2017 the ATH was $19783.06 but in order to have the same purchasing power you would need around $21002.47 now (got this result from an online calculator). Given that this is one of the main arguments against fiat, couldn't we benefit greatly by comparing ATH to inflation adjusted prices? Maybe this is one of the needed steps to switch the equation and start thinking in a more universal way of comparing fiat to btc (or any other coin): 100 USD is 0.0052 btc [link] [comments]
