On November 17th join The Litecoin Foundation and Dionysis from IOHK discuss the potential for a Velvet Fork on Litecoin.

    - Tue Nov 17, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM PST. - Finished! Thanks for the platinum award!

    Recap can be found below:

Litening Series Episode III: Velvet Fork Discussion, Education and Community Opinions

Two top-ten blockchains could team up for cross-chain compatibility.

Litecoin (LTC) and smart contract platform Cardano (ADA) are exploring a "Velvet Fork" partnership that will unlock new features in the 10th largest cryptocurrency such as cross-chain communications, smart contract capabilities, and improved scalability.

In July, Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson invited Litecoin Foundation managing director Charlie Lee to potentially collaborate on the testing of cross-chain communications between the two cryptocurrencies.

Since then, the two teams have been in communication, says Litecoin Foundation project director David Schwartz.

"Given the opportunity to research and provide input into the feasibility, pros, and cons of such an endeavor, I have had a number of informative exchanges with Charles' team on not just what a Velvet Fork is, but also how it affects the base code and what it would mean potentially for the continued growth and utility of Litecoin as not just a store of value, but also as a means of exchange and method of settlement within smart contracts."

According to Schwartz, a velvet fork is a protocol upgrade mechanism performed on a cryptocurrency code; it is neither a hard fork nor soft fork, notes Schwartz, because it doesn't require majority consensus. Miners will be able to continue to serve on the Litecoin network whether they choose to upgrade or not.

With the velvet fork upgrade, Schwartz explains how Litecoin can be used in smart contract platforms by using Non-Interactive Proofs of Work (NiPoPoWs).

"It allows blockchains to interact like API's, enabling a cryptocurrency like Litecoin to be used within a smart contract in a blockchain that has smart contract capabilities (Ethereum, Cardano, etc.). Basically the smart contract capable blockchain validates the NiPoPow used within the Litecoin sidechain that has had the velvet fork added to allow for this action to take place."

While the velvet fork partnership promises multiple benefits to Litecoin, Schwartz highlights that the partnership should "make sense in terms of security and integrity of the coin."

How would this affect both Litecoin & Cardano?

    What is a velvet fork?

    What is NiPoPoWs?

Have you ever paid with Litecoin? What did you buy?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 04:32 AM PST

Litecoin can be a cool payment method! Similar to Bitcoin, but quicker and cheaper, right? (Considering it was made for reducing transaction fees)

So what was the last time you paid with LTC?

    Wallet Restoration Question

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 06:12 PM PST

I restored a Coinbase wallet into Trust wallet using my 12 word back up phrase and it worked for everything except litecoin, any ideas why?

If I look at my wallet through the Coinbase wallet app I have .10 litecoin but in trust app it shows 0. (All other cryptos are displaying correctly.)

    Thanks!

    Grade me on a curve!

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 05:04 PM PST

I have always struggled with graphs. Maybe it has something to do with only being slightly above average. But, seeing this graph allows me to root for the reduction of risk through diversification. Hitting home run was never high on my list of playing baseball. I believe strongly in LiteCoin, but more with different goals via smart contracts and future uses of blockchain, I also enjoy the growth of the original crypto BitCoin, not so much on the alt coins but who knows. Picking one choice for a home run if and when you hit it but waiting for a slider, fastball low or a curve for a base hit to get on base worked for me. Eggs and baskets. Don't drop it. Most eggs break, more basket with few eggs. Don't crack up, be just above average. Just a suggestion.

    Litecoin: liquidity for cypherpunk movements

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 08:16 AM PST

Do you know about the trustless DEX that integrates cryptocurrencies without a third party token? You can learn more here https://dex.decred.org/ but the TL;DR is that it's open sourced permissionless servers that settle trades on-chain via atomicswaps. Litecoin has already been integrated. Currently its command line only and need full nodes but will increase UX over time.

As a previous LTC skeptic, I'm increasingly of the belief that Litecoin will play an important role in the acceleration of privacy coins through atomicswap liquidity.

Tribalism aside, Litecoin has high network distribution (third highest in recent coinmetrics report), dominant hashing algo, many fiat on/off ramps, payment integrations, and fast block production. Imo, these valuable differentiators are underappreciated and can be priced appropriately on a fair exchange.

In the next bull market what will Litecoin's narrative be?
