    Ledger phishing attack going on

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 02:26 AM PDT

    Copied from tweet:

Just FYI: there is a sophisticated ongoing Ledger phishing attack going on. A well written email from fake info@ledgersupport.io stating Ledger Live servers were breached and Ledger Live update is needed. The link is malicious. Be careful.

*I came accross this tweet, thought It would be a good idea to warn you all. I don't have a ledger btw..

    401k move to Bitcoin

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 11:37 PM PDT

Just curious to know if anyone here has considered moving their entire 401k into Bitcoin (and if there is a way without paying penalties). Certainly not smart in terms of diversification, but based on recent events (PP, licensing moves , institutionals joining, Fiat mony printing...) I strongly believe my money is safer in crypto.

I made a lightning tutorial for Breez Wallet. TLDW; seamless swaps between main chain and LN, auto channel management, ability to connect to core node, all non-custodial, zero setup. Thumbs up IMO.

Finally bought half a coin and will buy another half soon. I have it on coin base and want to transfer to a cold storage option. I have a ledger unopened but a part of me is worried it's hackable In some way. Any ideas?

Warning: Very professional-looking Ledger phishing emails

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 02:04 AM PDT

Just wanted to give people a heads-up that there is an ongoing phishing attack of very legit-looking emails against Ledger customers that are using the data compromised from the July 2020 data breach to both target and personalize the emails. The only real tells are that the emails have an excessively urgent tone, that they are timed to the middle of the weekend, and that they link to a suspicious domain that was registered yesterday (ledger support dot io) instead of the official ledger.com homepage.

Information about the original data breach

    Body of the email:

    Dear (ACTUAL FIRST NAME),

We regret to inform you that Ledger has experienced a security breach affecting approximately 85,000 of our customers and that the wallet associated with your e-mail address (ACTUAL EMAIL ADDRESS) is within those affected by the breach.

Namely, on Saturday, October 24th 2020, our forensics team has found several of the Ledger Live administrative servers to be infected with malware.

At this moment, it's technically impossible to conclusively assess the severity and the scope of the data breach. Due to these circumstances, we must assume that your cryptocurrency assets are at risk of being stolen.

If you're receiving this e-mail, it's because you've been affected by the breach. In order to protect your assets, please download the latest version of Ledger Live and follow the instructions to set up a new PIN for your wallet.

    Sincerely, Ledger

(Followed by a button to download the presumably malware-riddled "latest version")

Of course, you should only ever download Ledger Live from the official website.

How much BTC does the average member here probably have?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 05:57 PM PDT

I joined a few weeks ago and when I hear how personally invested and how much people praise BTC I usually assume these people have several bitcoins at least (3-5+), then I get a little jealous for not being involved sooner. How many BTC do you think the average member here has?

Transferring BTC From an Exchange to Personal Hardware Wallet

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:44 PM PDT

I recently purchased an external hardware wallet, and have two questions:

    1. Is it possible to withdraw BTC funds from my Crypto exchange wallet to a hardware wallet (I just purchased a hardware wallet - Ledger Nano X)?

    2. If so, then can I send and receive BTC to other people's various digital and hardware crypto wallets?

    Thank you!

Providing Lightning Network Liquidity/ Payment Processing

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:29 PM PDT

Hi, I've been away from the BTC space for some time, just checking in now and then to see what's going on. Years ago I got it into my head that at some point in the future there would be opportunity to essentially become a payment processor by providing liquidity to the lightning routing network. For people who have been following things closely, 1) how feasible does this seem, 2) time-wise how far away are opportunities like this, 3) will it even be worth it seeing as transaction fees are predicted to be low, and 4) technically what would the liquidity provider need to set up or have in place to capitalize on this? Thanks

Crypto is so freaking cool. (story inside related to BTC)

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:55 PM PDT

Last night I was my typical level of buzzed and browsing crypto Twitter; someone I follow retweeted a post about an air drop for some random alt coin block chain music streaming site (audius) I followed some overly complex directions signing up, following, texting, editing a profile and other various tasks that they asked for. After a while I was luckily enough to land the drop and get 500 AUDIO coin. Over the span of less then 48 hours I was able to get 500 AUDIO, learn about uniswap, Trade a tiny bit of BTC for ETH for "gas" (fudge eth I hate it, whole other story) Then swap my AUDIO for ETH then send the ETH to coinbase and then exchanged that ETH for BTC. I got around $120 USD of bitcoin from a fudging tweet. It feels good to be a gangster.
